Derby’s FA Cup exit after losing on penalties to league below Leyton Orient continues to fuel calls for a change of manager.
The O’s were victorious, winning 6-5 on penalties to set up a FA Cup fourth-round tie at home to Premier League holders Manchester City, and what a bumper atmosphere there will be for that one at Brisbane Road.
The game against Derby ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes following goals from Charlie Kelman and Dajaune Brown.
Orient saw Sean Clare given a second yellow card as the game headed towards a penalty shootout, all five penalties were netted by both sides, before O’s goalkeeper Josh Keeley kept out Callum Elder’s spot kick, and Zech Obeiro stepped up to send Orient through.
A number of Derby fans made their feelings known, as can be seen and heard in the fan videos below…

PAUL WARNE’S POST MATCH INTERVIEW:
Warne on exiting the cup on penalties against Leyton Orient, he said, per dcfc.co.uk…
It’s exactly what we didn’t want, going to extra time. We were forced into a change at half-time with Nat Phillips’ calf being tight. We thought we needed to win more second balls in the middle of the park, so we brought Ebou on. Then with about half an hour to go, I thought we needed to inject a bit of energy into the side because Corey Blackett-Taylor and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing were tightening up, so we changed the front three. I thought that would have been enough to win a football game.
We didn’t really create a lot more after that, truth be told. Dajaune Brown took his goal really well, and I’m pleased for Daj. Corey and Nat were dangerous at times, Kenzo Goudmijn was our outstanding player, but in a game with very few chances, we probably didn’t do enough to win and nor did the opposition. It’s disappointing to go out in the FA Cup, and to go out on penalties as a lottery, but we should have had enough before that to get us through.
Warne on picking themselves back up ahead of Watford…
I don’t want the lads to feel sorry about themselves, we’ve lost but we’ve got to move on very quickly, psychologically and physically. You’ve just got to get yourself back on the horse and get a little bit neater on stuff.
Jerry Yates is fine. He played with a groin injury against Bristol City, but it shouldn’t affect him too badly. The medical team decided to rest him for a couple of weeks, so he’ll be fine for the weekend, as will Eiran Cashin and Ben Osborn. We’ll have some fresh legs to pick from and we’re going to need them, because obviously going in with extra time tonight is something we didn’t want.

“It was just a stalemate cup tie sort of night.”
Derby County head coach Paul Warne gave his thoughts after his side were knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round by League One side Leyton Orient on penalties.

Warne on Dajaune Brown’s performance…
I thought he was good at holding the ball up, and it’s good he got the goal, because a lot of the stuff he does is the uglier stuff. He holds it up and takes a lot for the team, so I thought he’d done really well.
There were some positives from tonight’s performance, but it’s a cup game and you want to go through. Many teams lose to lower league opponents, but I thought with the team we selected tonight, we would have had enough to have a bit more control than we did. It just felt like when there was a bouncing ball, we got nudged out of the way of it, which I wouldn’t normally say about my team. I just didn’t think we were as aggressive as we needed to be to win.
Warne on preparing for Watford at Pride Park…
The lads have been excellent at home this year, so Watford will be a tough game. I know Watford played tonight as well against Cardiff, so we’ll be watching that on the way home, and we’ll be preparing the team again for Saturday. We need to turn performances into wins, we drew tonight obviously, but lost on penalties so it’s disappointing. For everyone who travelled, I appreciate you staying with the team and clapping them off, especially if you came down on Saturday as well. We just didn’t do enough to win, and that’s my honest assessment.
Here’s how fans reacted amid Derby’s cup exit after losing on penalties to Leyton Orient fuel calls for a change of manager…
@mrsamjones88: I remember I got loads of stick when I said we should have got Lampard back because he’d have have got in the loans we need to compete. Now we’ve missed the boat and we’ve still got this guy in charge. Not a bad bloke but completely out of his depth. Clowes has to act immediately
@Derbydan84: Resign you fraud
@TomCurtis_95: Starting to rack up too many consecutive losses. Something needs to change.
@blakedcfc: Players tightening up after 10 days off? Embarrassing
@Tooneyram: Defended and defended him. No longer can.. lose on sat and he needs to go
@hutch172: Same interview Saturday and the week before and week before
@lodgey2510: Mr clowes please sack him from 90% of the fan base
@GrantDcfc: Not even clicked on video yet and I already know I’ll be rattled even more
@Krs0774: I do think the team he put out should have done better but his substitutions were awful, CBT looked like the only one who had anything about him second half and he took him off.
@iainjennison: So, a former fitness coach can’t get his squad fit enough to play 90 minutes. Keep digging that whole, you fraud
@davemills1884: How can players be tightening up after playing for 60mins? What is going on in training?? Or are the players just fed up of this dross? The list of players who can’t do 90mins grows… elder, Nml, CBT, Browne apparently, Kenzo… unfortunately harness can apparently
@stefdcfc89: Why is he still i charge???
@pmc1884: It’s becoming draining watching his dull team play, it’s no fun anymore going to games
@perky1106: “Should have done enough” 🥱😴 He got the decisions wrong tonight and again with unnecessary changes he made a League One team difficult to beat tonight.
@Toshisaram: Pull the trigger DC before it’s too late. Worrying times.
@_BrettJames: time is up now, just looking at the reaction you can see the fan base has had enough. It’s not working on the pitch (cohesion, tactics) or off it (transfers in/out). Clowes must act quickly as the season under PW is only going one way 📉 #dcfc
@marwaha_om: David clowes, Warne did a great job getting us promoted from league 1 back to the championship but, if we’re getting 4 wins in 22 games then that’s a good sign to change the manager and support the future of our club. Don’t put us in a relegation battle again. We don’t deserve it
@Krs0774: Players used to go out drinking, eat crap food and still play 90 mins when called upon, these days we have a style of football that is dull, boring and cannot be maintained for more than 60 minutes without someone with a computer saying he’s done enough best get him off. 🙄
@RKooner89: Closes sacked Rosenior because he wasn’t what we needed to get out of L1. Warne isn’t what we need to stay in the championship. Come on David get him gone
@ashyouknow: ‘We probably didn’t do enough to win but nor did the opposition’. We’re in the fucking championship and they’re in league 1 mate.
@TxmTheNo1: How can you blame it on players fitness when they’ve not played for over a week? Pro footballers should be able to play 90 mins. Same shit every week
@Mark1Curtin: Every week it’s we didn’t do. Enough it a nearly this is or nearly that. In the eyes of the fan base your nearly out the fucking door. You can watch the game back and you can watch majority of the games back under you. You will struggle to find an outstanding one. 👋🏼
