Derby fans taunt angry Birmingham fan with Aston Villa chant

Derby fans appeared to taunt an angry Birmingham fan with a cheeky chant about Aston Villa prior to the Championship fixture on Friday.

Before the game even got going, a group of the Rams faithful were soaking up the pre-match experience, with a group of lads outside a bar cheekily mocking a lone Blues supporter.

While times might be gloomy for uncertain for Derby, their fanbase still found away to keep their spirits up as downpours hit the West Midlands before the 8pm kick off at St Andrews.

The Birmingham supporter could be heard shouting “come on then, come on then, I’m not scared!”… only for a group of Derby lads drowning his screams by singing “We heard you ran from the Villa”. Take a look at the video below…

That was probably the happiest moment of the night for those supporters as they watched their side lose 2-0 to the hosts.

Goals from Scott Hogan and Jeremie Bela earned all three points for Lee Bowyer’s side, taking them up to 4th in the Championship.

A defensive mix-up allowed Scott Hogan to give Birmingham the lead on the 31st minute, with Jeremie Bela’s powerful finish with under 10 minutes remaining enough to crush any hopes of a Derby fightback.

Midway through the second half, boyhood Blues fan Troy Deeney – who joined the club from Watford late last month – was brought on for his much talked about debut, much to the delight of the home supporters.

Victory lifts Birmingham up to fourth, two points behind leaders Fulham, ahead of the remainder of the weekend’s action, while Wayne Rooney’s Derby sit 16th.

WHAT MANAGERS SAID POST-MATCH

Lee Bowyer: “It was very satisfying to get our first three points at home in front of the fans. [We kept] a clean sheet, created chances, worked extremely hard as a group – it was very pleasing.

“We had to adjust the press slightly after the first few minutes and once we adjusted then we won it in some dangerous areas a lot of times in the first half and should have punished them more, I felt. I thought that we were very good.”

Wayne Rooney: “It was frustrating, really. We played some OK stuff, but we didn’t really create that many clear-cut chances. On the other hand, I don’t think Birmingham did enough to win the game – we gave the ball away twice for their two goals. We weren’t at our best tonight and didn’t deserve to win.

“The way we are trying to play, there are going to be mistakes. I know that, I’ve told the players that, I take full responsibility for that. If I’m asking players to play out from the back and it doesn’t come off, that’s on me. It’s about recognising those moments when you can play, but also when you can play forward and play in behind.”

Man of the match – Tahith Chong

Sky Sports’ Don Goodman: “It’s my first viewing of him live and I’ve been really impressed with what I have seen. He has been excellent and this experience is only going to help him improve going forward.”
