Derby County have been left enraged at the Norwich opening goal which stood after the ball had quite clearly gone out of play in the lead up.
The visitors were ahead in added time of the first half, but it shouldn’t have counted. Josh Sargent pulled the ball back from the byline but it had already gone out of play – and Borja Sainz tapped it in.
Ed Dawes (BBC Radio Derby commentator): “It’s out of play by a foot, they have frozen the replay, it’s out by a mile. This is why we need VAR in the Championship, Derby are unlucky. Sadly they have been let down by the officials.”
Leigh Curtis (@LeighCurtis_DT): “Never heard jeering like that for an official at Pride Park. Ref’s assistant is under no illusion as to what the South Stand think of that decision before half-time. #DCFC #dcfcfans”

Derby fans will say the wrong was righted on 60 minutes when the Rams went level through Craig Forsyth.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing saw his deep corner nodded back into the mixer by Curtis Nelson and Forsyth sent his first-time effort low past Angus Gunn from eight yards on his 300th appearance.
Just went it looked like Derby were pushing to go in front, out of nothing Norwich got 2-1 up just minutes later.
Borja Sainz had plenty of time and space to drive through the Derby half, Josh Sargent’s clever run pulled his marker away and Sainz sent a bouncing strike from just outside the box into the bottom corner. His fifth goals in his last six games.

There was another controversial moment again in the lead up to Borja Sainz making it 3-1.
Norwich cleared the ball up field after it had crossed the byline at the other end, on the counter, Josh Sargent is freed down the right, Norwich have 3-on-1 and the ball is slid into middle with the outside of his foot for Sainz to prod underneath Jacob Zetterstrom and watch the ball trickle over the line.

Norwich boss Johannes Hoff Thorup told BBC Radio Norfolk:
“Borja Sainz is a great finisher and gets himself in so many good positions.
“There are also moments in the game when I am not pleased (with him), he gave the ball away too easy, but it’s important for us that we have that threat up front.
“There were also two assists from Josh (Sargent), which is as important as scoring goals, and we are the first team to score just one goal on this pitch this season, and we did three which I’m happy about.
“It’s difficult against teams who invest so much in set-piece situations and you really have to be strong in that area of the game. “
Here’s how Twitter users reacted with Derby enraged at the Norwich goal which stood after ball had gone out of play in the lead up…
@clarkey15: 33,000 fans knew the ball was out… the only 2 that didn’t see it were the thick fucks wearing black who’s job it is… wankers #dcfc
@James_collins90: Typical @EFL official always screwing us 🙄 #dcfc #dcfcfans
@DCFC_Ramz: @EFL How can there not be VAR in the @SkyBetChamp? #dcfc #derby #dcfcfans
@ConnorDcfc: Ladies and gentlemen EFL refs if I was had at my job I’d be sacked wish you could say the same for the referee at times @EFL #dcfc #dcfcfans
@Guardthebee: You could see that was out even during real time. Don’t even need a replay. Nothing contentious, just clearly obvious. Absolutely appaling from both lino and ref. Demote them both to non league #dcfc #dcfcfans
@RUFC_Tiny: How The Fuck is that not out
@CityGroundShelf: That’s both hideous and reasonably amusing.
@_WillDodds: Would love to know why the @FA still hasn’t decided to put officials behind each goal 🤯🫠 Stops nonsense like this from happening. Have to feel for #DCFC
@cjt00___: Yep it’s time for var in the championship, these referees are beyond incompetent
@Guardthebee: Atrocious officiating.
@The1884Rams: EFL at it again. Ollie Langford and his officials not fit to officiate a Sunday league game. Embarrassing incompetence, if it even is that… #dcfc
@JackDoughty18: Ball was in the south stand mind
@HeyupitsGav: What an absolute pisstake. Expect nothing less from the officials, the down side of no VAR…. Absolutely atrocious decisions with no corrections, not that VAR should be needed when it’s that clear. Mind you, NML needs to take responsibility for that even playing out. #DCFC
@SinceForestWin: How the fuck did the linesman not seen that the ball went out of play when he had a clear view of it! Unforgivable! #DCFC
@Jamie_Probert1: Ball was in the fucking velodrome
@Ade_Bishop: Absolutely should not have been given as a goal. Whistle should have already been blown for the clear handball and penalty. #dcfc #ncfc
@leagleist: Everyone cries to get rid of VAR but this is the exact thing it stops.
@wynnielad: Are you fucking joking it was a yard over the byline, these officials are a fucking joke.
@richieallen11: Asides from the ‘goal’ NML concedes possession on countless occasions and never thinks it’s his responsibility to track back and help regain the ball
I would say it is in pic.twitter.com/lhYiW2ehUX

Cross for the ball was miles out, but it was handball just before that… let’s all agree the officials have been shocking today? pic.twitter.com/BoMsnbJZQx
