David Prutton’s midweek Championship score predictions (7-9 July)

David Prutton’s midweek Championship score predictions are out as anticipation grows with the season’s end just around the corner.

There is still so much at stake, with teams battling for promotion, a fair few sides still in contention of getting in the playoffs, and the relegation battle is set to be the most tense yet.

The former footballer turned presenter, pundit and commentator is often accurate when it comes to the results, however has found it tougher with the scores. Despite that, put all his guesses into a table and it really isn’t far off the current one. See his latest lot below…

NOTT’M FOREST v FULHAM

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “Nottingham Forest will have been so frustrated with the way they threw away that win late on at Derby on Saturday. They were so much in control of that game before that last-minute slip.

Fulham have scraped a couple of wins in their last two games, coming from behind against QPR then sneaking past Birmingham. Seven off the pace with five games to go is a big gap to make up, but all they can do is keep winning until it is mathematically impossible. I do, however, think this will be a draw.

SCORE PREDICTION: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Fulham

BRENTFORD v CHARLTON

Prutton said on Sky Sports’ website: “Brentford have kept the pressure up on Leeds and West Brom, but those two have responded well and it may well have left the Bees a little frustrated.

“Charlton still have a little work to do to beat the drop this season, but are still in a decent position despite that late loss against Millwall on Friday night. I can’t see them getting anything at Griffin Park, though.”

SCORE PREDICTION: Brentford 3-1 Charlton

LUTON v BARNSLEY

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “You feel it is win or bust for these two at Kenilworth Road. Both were on the end of very poor results at the weekend, and will need to get it out of their systems as quickly as they can.

“Luton are five adrift of safety, and Barnsley are four points back. It will be fascinating to see whether they both go for it knowing they need to win, or play it more tentatively being desperate not to lose. I fancy a home win here.”

SCORE PREDICTION: Luton 3-1 Barnsley

MILLWALL v MIDDLESBROUGH

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “That was a vital late win for Millwall at Charlton on Friday night. It just keeps them within touching distance of the play-offs, but they will probably still need to be perfect between now and the end of the season to have a chance of making it.

“It’s not quite going the way many would have been expecting for Neil Warnock at Middlesbrough. He started with a win, but has lost two eminently-winnable games since and they have found themselves back in the bottom three. I think they could lose again here, and it will leave them in real trouble.”

SCORE PREDICTION: Millwall 3-1 Middlesbrough

WEST BROM v DERBY

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “It’s been a brilliant response to the pressure from Brentford by West Brom, who have won their last two to keep that five-point cushion. They are still firm favourites for automatic promotion and a win here would go a long, long way to securing their return to the Premier League.

“Derby were a little disappointing in terms of their performance against Nottingham Forest at the weekend and their winning run is over. But the way they grabbed that last-minute point still would have been huge for morale. It will be tight, but I think the Baggies sneak this one.”

SCORE PREDICTION: West Brom 1-0 Derby

LEEDS v STOKE

He said on Sky Sports’ website: “Blackburn away is one of the games that the sides chasing Leeds would have hoped to see them slip up in, but it was a convincing win for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, taking them one step closer to promotion.

“Stoke have had a topsy-turvy week. They were awful against Wigan, then brilliant in beating Barnsley. If Michael O’Neill’s side from the weekend turns up they could cause Leeds some real problems, although I think the home side will have enough to claim the victory.”

David Prutton’s midweek Championship score predictions for this game is: Leeds 2-1 Stoke

READING v HUDDERSFIELD

David Prutton has predicted that the Royals will come out victorious with a 2-0 win, which should keep Mark Bowen’s side out the way of the relegation battle following a 5-0 thrashing against Luton.

It would be a serious blow to Danny Cowley’s side with the club currently two points above the drop and looking to go three unbeaten.

CARDIFF v BLACKBURN

David Prutton has predicted that Cardiff will end Rovers’ chances of getting a playoff place by winning 2-1.

The Bluebirds is in superb form and look set to maintain their form which has got them three points clear of Derby who sit just outside the playoff zone. Blackburn are eight points behind Neil Harris’ side.

BIRMINGHAM v SWANSEA

David Prutton has predicted that Birmingham will be on the end of another defeat, this time with a 2-1 loss at home to Swansea who are four points behind rivals Cardiff.

Pep Clotet’s side haven’t won once in their last 10 games, which has them caught in a relegation battle, with the Blues five points away from the drop zone.

BRISTOL CITY v HULL

David Prutton has predicted that managerless Robins will suffer 1-0 defeat relegation threatened Hull, who are a point ahead of 22nd placed Middlesbrough.

Bristol City recently sacked Lee Johnson following a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff, which has surely blown any hopes of reaching the playoffs now.

WIGAN v QPR

David Prutton has predicted that Wigan, who are in administration, will get back to winning ways having lost 3-0 to Brentford at the weekend. Previous to that game, they had the best form in the league.

QPR are nine points from reaching the playoffs, something they look like struggling to get with teams above them expected to do better.

Wigan will be hoping to pick up as many points in total in order to try and prevent them from going down with a 12 point deduction looming.

SHEFFIELD WED v PRESTON

David Prutton has predicted that Preston will continue to fight for a playoff place – with a 2-1 win – something they are six points away from.

The Owls are eight points above the relegation zone in 15th, but like Wigan, they could also get a points deduction which could send them into the drop zone.
