DERBY v BRISTOL CITY
Simeon: Derby still without a point and they’ve conceded eight goals in their first two games, which is at least three more than any other side in the league. It’s not been, it’s been a defensively challenging start for Derby County. Bristol City followed up that dazzling open day win at Sheffield United with a slightly more dour goalless draw at Charlton. But four points from six, a very, very good return and good start for them. They will be brimming with confidence. Derby need to get a result even at this early stage of the season going into Friday night? Or at least maybe leak a few less goals than they did, especially last week when they shipped five to Coventry.
David: Yeah, well that would be the frustrating thing. The fact that they obviously went a goal down, clawed it back and managed to get themselves in front and by the end of it, it’s looked like Coventry ran away with it pretty comfortably, even though of course they conceded three goals themselves. And up against a Bristol City side who I thought were fantastic on the opening day. Really enjoyed the way that Strew would set them up. We know that Charlton under Nathan Jones is going to be a very tough nut to crack, hence the no-no draw at the weekend. But I think you’re right, all that wonderful work that went into Derby County at the end of last season needs to be continued. And I’m sure the manager doesn’t need a lay person like me to tell him that.
Simeon: Nathan Jones himself a tough nut. We’ll talk about Charlton in a bit anyway, but we’re on Derby versus Bristol City. As someone who’s never managed ever, if you were a manager of Derby County, at what point do you start to get a little bit tentative, a little bit nervous? Because we know how early these things can build at this stage of the season and it’s just shipping too many goals, isn’t it? Would you be less worried if they weren’t scoring as well? What would you be thinking if you’re out there on the training ground at Derby.
David: I think given what we’ve seen from them thus far, yes, I mean, you take the opening day game against Stoke, very, very late winners in that. So that’s a question of concentration, which will infuriate John. The win during the course of the week in the Carabao Cup. And then you get back to the weekend, yeah, I’d say it would be more cause for concern if you were getting done to nil, but they’re not. And like I said, there was early season teething problems that have come their way, which they absolutely put to bed and were fantastic at the end of last season. Just need to be carried on. I make it sound very straightforward, but again, you’ve got a very experienced man in the dugout and a man that’s shown already what he can do with Derby County.
Simeon: Derby have won just two of their last eight league games against Bristol City, although both those wins have come at home. What do you think the score is going to be at Pride Park on Friday night?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2 draw

CHARLTON v LEICESTER
Simeon: Charlton, we touched upon their solid start early and what a tough nut to crack Nathan Jones. As I imagine he’s personally quite a tough nut to crack as well. Four points from there, opening two games, two clean sheets, just one goal scored, but still that’s as solid as you want to be when you’re a newly promoted side in this league, isn’t it? Leicester not been quite so smooth sailing one win one defeat their one win did come at Sheffield Wednesday as well on opening day and they did have to fight back from there so not necessarily the best start under Marti Cifuentes they’ve had and obviously still a lot of uncertainty in terms of players in players out that that type of thing at the King Power Stadium so this is this should be a tricky one for the Foxes heading to the Addicks.
David: Yeah but it’d be one that Nathan and his crew will be relishing won’t they you get the feeling we saw that wonderful last-minute winner which sent The Valley absolutely delirious didn’t we on the opening weekend so you’ve got now something to harness something to be able to get on board with, it was always a wonderful place to play football without wanting to bore any listeners but having played there in the Premier League it was always an extremely vocal and exuberant place to play and they’ll be hoping that that’s one step towards that level once again, and again Leicester’s a funny one isn’t it obviously they’ve got a kid scoring goals who is ridiculously young and has got a ridiculously bright future, yet there is so much discussion and debate about what’s going on off the pitch. And I just think Charlton feel more settled and I’ve got a strong feeling about Charlton at home against Leicester in this one.
Simeon: This is the first meeting between these two sides in more than 10 years. Leicester won that game 3-0 on the way to promotion in 2014. The three goal scorers that day were Jamie Vardy, whatever happened to him, Danny Drinkwater and David Nugent. So yeah, over 10 years. I mean, Jeremy Monga was five when that game happened as well, is a scary, scary thought. What’s the score going to be at The Valley?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Charlton

HULL v BLACKBURN
Simeon: Hull City had a great win over Oxford on Sunday 3-2. Kind of a weird hidden game on Sunday afternoon, but it was brilliant. watched the highlights. Oli McBurnie won that one late on for them. Blackburn, two defeats from two so far. That loss on Saturday to Birmingham would have really, really hurt going into the 90th minute, 1-0 up. Yeah, as I’ve said, still no points for them. Hull have had a good start though and will be looking to build on that.
David: Yeah hearing some very good things about the new Hull boss who seems to be adapting and approaching the Championship in a very kind of mild and not, mean mild as in the sense he didn’t come in like Tim Walter and start saying about the type of football he was going to play, he just knew that he had to incrementally get better than what they were dealing with last season. So when we’ve seen managerial changes, discussion about what’s happening off the field with regards to their ability to be able to operate the transfer window. What he’s done so far, I think has been good. I think the players that he’s brought in have been very workable Championship assets, especially the spine of the team. I’ve got a lot of time for that. So I think it’s been good so far. No he’s done great so far and I do fancy them at home against the Blackburn side. Like you say, we need to get the season up and running.
Simeon: Hull have won three of the last four games against Blackburn, although they did lose this fixture last time at the MKM last season.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Hull win.

SWANSEA v WATFORD
Simeon: Swansea off the mark, home to Sheffield United on Saturday, beating them 1-0. Watford also got their first win of the season as they beat QPR 2-1. I can’t really say two sides in good form because they’ve won one game apiece last weekend, but both will be feeling pretty good after such things happen.
David: Yeah, getting off the mark. We talked very briefly just then about Watford, got a lot of time for Swansea with an old mucker man in charge, Alan Sheehan. Thoroughly well deserved of the main job. So yeah, a nice early sighting for these two. What do we expect from both? At least knocking on the door of the top half coming into the season, which is a very, very, very, very long way away. But Swansea at home, fancy them.
Simeon: Swansea have won three of their last four home championship games against Watford losing the other what’s the score going to be?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Swansea win
BIRMINGHAM v OXFORD
Simeon: Birmingham, one win and a draw so far. Oxford, still pointless. What’s the score going to be at St Andrews?
David: Birmingham, very involved in late drama, particularly Lyndon Dykes in the first two games. Very hard to come away from Birmingham City at home, are at times irresistible.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 Birmingham
Simeon: Fear for Oxford if they lose three games in a row? Only 43 games left to recover.
David: I mean, there’s a long time to be able to pull your finger out so no.
Simeon: When do you start fearing for teams? November, December?
David: Yeah, yeah, past bonfire. I mean, obviously there’s the added, whether it means a thing to the players. Obviously Gary going back with his side will want to prove a point. I mean, like I said, that could be something or nothing. But no, nothing to fear because I think the job that Gary did was tremendous and the ambitious ownership, one of whom I met at Wembley at the end of last season shows that they’re all pulling in the right direction.

COVENTRY v QPR
Simeon: Coventry City versus, this is brilliant podcast, ask me questions and you tell me you can’t answer them. Coventry City versus Queen’s Park Rangers. Coventry four points on the board face QPR with just one. What’s the score going to be the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 Coventry win
NORWICH v MIDDLESBROUGH
Simeon: Norwich off the mark last week with a big three points. Josh Sargent still there as we talk midweek. Middlesbrough two wins from two under Rob Edwards. Brilliant start for him. It’s the first time Middlesbrough won the first two games of the season 31 years perhaps. Did you know that?
David: That is a ridiculous start, I didn’t.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1 draw
PRESTON v IPSWICH
Simeon: Preston, four points so far, including beating Leicester City last time out. Milutin Osmajić, biting in with a late winner. Ipswich, two points. I mean, I could have done better than that. That was weak. Ipswich, two points from two games so far. Not the best of starts for Kieran McKenna’s Crazy Gang. Kieran What’s the score going to be at Deepdale?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1 draw
SHEFFIELD UNITED v MILLWALL
Simeon: Sheffield United are in crisis. are pointless so far. Millwall one win on the board that they’ve got so far. One day opening game and there was a lot of Millwall HMS P the league, word I can’t say, but then they were brought back down to earth at the weekend. What’s the score going to be at the Bramall Lane?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Millwall win
SOUTHAMPTON v STOKE
Simeon: Southampton four points so far. the most convincing four points, but they four points so far. Stoke are top of the league heading into the weekend. Stoke City are top of the league heading into the weekend. I know it’s only been two games, but you’ve got to take it if you’re Stoke fan and you’ve spent the last 10 years in 15th. So what is the score going to be at St. Mary’s?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2 draw
WEST BROM v PORTSMOUTH
Simeon: West Brom also two wins from two under new gaffer Ryan Mason Isaac Price looking a very, very, very talented player. Portsmouth three points so far, one opener then lost at the weekend. What’s the score going to be at the Hawthorns?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 West Brom win
WREXHAM v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
Simeon: Both sides still without a point. This is an important game for both. What’s the score going to be?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday win
Simeon: Controversial.
David: Yeah, do reckon? That feels more like 1-0, doesn’t it?
Simeon: Wrexham and Sheff Wed.
David: Yeah. I’ll go 1-1.
Simeon: No, it’s too late now. You’re going 1-0. I’m not going to edit that out.
