LEICESTER v BIRMINGHAM
Simeon: Leicester 6 points from three games. More than decent start in terms of results. Performance is not quite convinced yet. Birmingham, seven points from three games. Really, really good return from the Championship to them. I mean, they’ve got one more point in Leicester, but it feels like a very different seven points to the six points Leicester have picked up so far. We’ve really liked what we’ve seen from Birmingham so far, haven’t we?
David: We have indeed. They’ve been a most welcome part of the Championship furniture. Once again, bringing the noise, bringing the atmosphere, of course, at St Andrews and a very decent squad that they’ve put together. There’s lots of like in Leicester who got the game won against Charlton, which I thought was a tough one for them, but they’ve got undoubted stardust, haven’t they, sprinkled across their team. So, yeah, it’s a cracking Midlands derby to get the weekend up and running.
Simeon: Speaking of Leicester, still, I imagine Martí Cifuentes is very much looking forward to the closure of the transfer window in a week’s time, so he actually knows what his squad’s going to look like by the start of September, really. Abdul Fatawu, unbelievable goal against Charlton Athletic to get them the win there.
David: Amazing goal.
Simeon: How do you feel about where Leicester are at the moment?
David: Yeah, there’s that element of the unknown with regards to who’s in and who’s out, but once that window shuts, they’ve got some wonderful players to able to focus on. They’ve still got some real experience and em kind of mixing that with the youth that they’ve got is a real good blend. It’s just like, as you say, calming down a little bit of the disquiet. We saw Wout Faes not too happy with potential parts of the fan base of the week, but get over that, get back to doing what you can do and potentially dominate the league.
Simeon: Leicester are unbeaten in the last nine games in all competitions against Birmingham City. Birmingham’s last win against Leicester came all the way back in 2011 when you were still a professional footballer. What’s the score going to be at the King Power Stadium?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-2 draw
MIDDLESBROUGH v SHEFFIELD UNITED
Simeon: Middlesbrough, three wins from three. What a start it’s been for Rob Edwards. So pleased for him after the way it ended for him at Luton. Still early days of course, but what a positive start it’s been. Can’t really say that about Sheffield United. Three defeats on the bounce. It’s been an absolute nightmare. They’re bottom of the league, I know it’s very much an embryonic league table, but they’re still bottom of it. Let’s start with Middlesbrough and talk about how good we go good then bad then good. We’ll do a positivity sandwich. Borough, really really really strong start for them under Rob Edwards. The transition from Michael Carrick to him has been more than seamless. Well, it’s been just good, but they’ve been better.
David: It’s good start, isn’t it? It’s a good start and it’s to be expected under a man who knows all about the Championship. Yes, it was quite an emotional time towards the end of being at Luton and he needed to go away and get refreshed and relaxed and he’s seemingly done that. They’re an ambitious football club, of course, going into that final game of the season. Last season just missing out on the playoffs after being able to get into it with Michael in the past. That’s a prerequisite, I think. That’s a baseline for them to be able to aim for. And I think the job that Rob’s done so far is to be applauded, but he knows more than anyone. Three games in league-wise, you can’t get too carried away and he’ll be preaching that to his players.
Simeon: Sheffield United has flipped the coin.
David: Different kettle of fish entirely.
Simeon: Turned the bucket on its head. It’s been really bad to open things up. Will Ruben Selles be looking at the upcoming fortnight international break and maybe a little bit worried if this game doesn’t go as well as it still? It’s never too early in this division to get sacked, it? And we’re not here to condone this kind of behaviour, but it will be. It’s been a disaster, hasn’t it, so far?
David: Yeah, results-wise, I think you look at key moments in key games, particularly that opening game of the season against Bristol City, they had a game that they were capable of winning, but they didn’t, and they were put to the sword. So when you see what’s happened after that with regards to results. It was always going to be a tough task to follow Chris Wilder, given what he represents, not just to the football club, but to the city as well. And given the fact that Ruben was in charge of a whole city team that stayed in the Championship by the absolute skin of its teeth and by virtue of there being three worst teams. So he’s got a lot to prove himself. But having spoken to him and seen his methods, he’ll be leaving no stone unturned. And that two week international break will be absolutely forensic from him to find out what’s going on wrong, where it’s going wrong and how to put it right.
Simeon: Middlesbrough, I’m beaten in the last nine games against Sheffield United in all competitions. They haven’t lost at home to them since 1997. That was also the first time these two sides ever met at the Riverside Stadium.
Simeon: What’s the score going to be at the Riverside Stadium?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 Middlesbrough

QPR v CHARLTON
Simeon: QPR, wow, they were um beaten at Coventry last weekend. It’s rocky start for the new manager to say the least, one point from three games. It started off alright with a point on open day since then, not been good and the weekend was an utter unbridled disaster. Charlton, very solid start, lost to Leicester last weekend but it as we’ve mentioned took that Fatawu who won the goal for them to concede for the first time this season four points on the board so far really really good return Championship for them not scoring or conceding a huge amount but getting the job done.
David: No they played well against Leicester very well and but for a couple of instances towards the end, they’d have come away with a point at least. I mean, they’re taking a QPR side that’ll be, I mean, their first port of call this weekend is not to lose. A win obviously would be glorious for them, but after getting absolutely battered like that, they’ve got to make sure that they’re closing the ranks and making sure that it’s going to be tough for Charlton. But I really do fancy Charlton in this, given the vein of form that they’re in.
Simeon: Yeah, I was meant to be doing an interview QPR this week. I’m pretty sure it’s not going to happen now after the weekend. QPR are unbeaten in their last six home league games against Charlton, winning four during two. They’ve not lost own to the Addicts since 1998.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 Charlton
STOKE v WEST BROM
Simeon: We’ve talked about some troubled teams. We’ll talk about some teams that are flying, particularly the mighty Potters. Stoke City are absolutely flying. Three wins from three Super Marky Robbins at the wheel. What time it is to be a Stoke City fan. I know it’s only been three games, but I think as we mentioned last week, it’s been about seven years of misery for Stoke fans. So this is unbridled joy, I’d West Brom, they had their winning start ended by Portsmouth last week, drawing 1-1 at home. Still a decent return for them, 7 points for every 3 games. This should be a decent one, shouldn’t it? Between two sides who will be feeling good heading into the Bet365.
David: And they’re doing, under Mark Robbins, what we believe to be the case. It’s a really good test of both sides. Obviously we saw a quite frustrated Ryan Mason, didn’t we, at the weekend. He wasn’t happy with a couple of decisions that he thought weren’t the ones for him. So presumably he won’t in the dugout?
Simeon: Yeah, got sent off to his post-match media duties and I imagine he’ll be banned from the dugout at the Bet365.
David: So there’s an element of that that they’ve got to manage.
Simeon: It’s good to see Mark Robins doing well. Always good to see Matt Robbins doing well.
David: Big fan up here, big fan of the way sets his team up and all around good egg.
Simeon: Proper football man. Stoke have failed to win any of their last six league games against West Brom, drawing three and losing three of those. What’s the score?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Stoke

BLACKBURN v NORWICH
Simeon: Blackburn first win last weekend thumping win at Hull. Pretty much Hull to win, I think it was 3-0. Norwich also not a great start, three points so far from three games and still some uncertainty over the future of Josh Sargent heading into the end of the summer window.
David: Very good point about Josh. He’s had a flying start to the season and Blackburn, that was much needed.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1 draw
BRISTOL CITY v HULL
Simeon: Bristol City still unbeaten five points so far. Hull, as we just mentioned, lost rather ceremoniously at home to Blackburn last weekend. What’s the score going to be at Ashton Gate?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Bristol City win
IPSWICH v DERBY
Simeon: Ipswich Town versus Derby County. Ipswich tricky starts of life back in the Championship, just two points so far. Derby got their first point of the season later on against Bristol City. Ipswich, we’ll get into more next week on the Championship catch-up, which you won’t be on. I’ll on with some different pundits, but you can briefly maybe discuss the fact they’ve not had the best starts whilst then before predicting what the score is going to be at Portman Road.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-0 Ipswich win
MILLWALL v WREXHAM
Simeon: Millwall, good win at Sheffield United last week and really good win. Six points so far. Wrexham, point on the board, but not really a good point. They were held at home by Sheffield Wednesday from 2-0 up last week. What’s the score going to be at the Den?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Millwall win
OXFORD v COVENTRY
Simeon: Oxford, not a point on the board yet in the first three games. Coventry, as we talked about earlier, absolutely proliferated QPR last week and they got seven points. What’s the score going to be at the Kassam Stadium?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 2-1 Coventry
PORTSMOUTH v PRESTON
Simeon: At Portsmouth versus Preston North End, Portsmouth solid start, four points so far. Preston, really impressive start considering the games they’ve had. They’ve beaten Leicester City and Ipswich Town in consecutive weekends. What’s the score going to be at Fratton Park?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-0 Preston win
SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY v SWANSEA
Simeon: Sheffield Wednesday versus Swansea City. Wednesday as we’ve said, battled to that point at Wrexham last week. Swansea four points so far, good return for your boys Sheehan. What’s the score going to be? uh At Hillsborough.
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1 draw
WATFORD v SOUTHAMPTON
Simeon: Watford versus Southampton. Watford good return, four points so far. Southampton also four points but not as good a four points as the four points Watford have picked up despite them both being all four points they were also beaten home by Stoke last weekend. What’s the score going to be at the Vic?
David Prutton’s score prediction: 1-1 draw
