David Beckham’s son Romeo in surprise move training with Premier League side

David Beckham’s son Romeo is reportedly in a surprise move training with Premier League side Brentford, raising intrigue this week.

20 year old Romeo Beckham has been spotted with Brentford’s B-side this week, with the winger remaining under contract at Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer club co-owned by his father, David.

It is unclear how long he will stay at the Bees, but it’s said that he has followed most of the players and there are hopes he might just join permanently.

Romeo, who was once on Arsenal’s books and can also play in defence or as a winger, is the second oldest of the four Beckham children and really the only one that has opted for a career within football.

He signed a deal with Fort Lauderdale, the reserve team of Inter Miami in September in 2021, before going on to make his professional debut alongside Harvey Neville, the son of his father’s former Manchester United team-mate Phil Neville, who is Inter Miami’s head coach.

Romeo turned to tennis and even trained with Andy Murray after being released after a stint at Arsenal alongside brothers Brooklyn and Cruz but was released in 2014.

‘The other day Romeo turned round to me and said he didn’t want to play football anymore,’ David said at the time. ‘Part of me was devastated but part of me was relieved, too. He’s got other passions and I like that.’

But after a five year spell away from the game, Romeo returned to his footballing roots and in 2021 signed for his dad’s MLS side, signed for Fort Lauderdale CF – renamed Inter Miami II in 2022 – dad David’s reserve affiliate team and in January 2022, Romeo made his non-competitive senior debut for Inter Miami during a 4–0 pre-season win against Club Universitario de Deportes.

Romeo also came off the bench in a pre-season friendly losing 6-0 to Barcelona in July.

The 20-year-old could do little to change the game’s path having been brought on in the 86th minute.

This year, he has made 26 appearances for Inter Miami’s reserve team, scoring twice and operating mostly on the right-wing.

David Beckham posted his support on social media for his son’s performance, saying: ‘Well done mate so proud. First goal in a Miami shirt.’

Romeo responded with: ‘Love you Dad, that was for you.’

Victoria also got in on the act of praising her son and partner.

Romeo Beckham recently spoke with PUMA over his love for football.

Was it your childhood dream to become a professional footballer?
Romeo: I’ve grown up around football, so it was always a big interest for me and when I started playing more seriously it became a goal. I played other sports too but decided football was the route I wanted to go down.

What are your goals for the new year and how would you describe your playing technique ?
Romeo: I’m excited for this year as it will be my first full season in Miami. I’m just looking to keep improving as much as I can and will be focused on that. I’ve always been an attacking player and I’m pretty quick so I think I’m at my best when playing wide and getting crosses in. I love taking set pieces too, which I’ve been practicing a lot in the off-season.

What is your character as a player in the match?
Romeo: I’m pretty quiet on the pitch and like my football to do the talking really.

Although you’re still very young, you’re a role model for a lot of young people everywhere. What is your message to them?
Romeo: I’ve never really thought of myself as a role model but obviously that’s amazing to hear. I’ve always been encouraged to work hard at whatever I do so that would probably be my message to other people.

What does fashion mean to you?
Romeo: I see it as a chance to stand out from everyone else. You can still make a statement and also be comfortable in what you wear.

This is what fans said with David Beckham’s son Romeo in a surprise move training with Premier League side Brentford…

@LordLouCan: If the Romeo Beckham to Brentford B rumours are true they should announce it with him whipping a Hounslow Harriers shirt off to reveal a Bees top underneath

@BUBBLYSTEVE2: If he is half as good as his dad, he would be a great signing. (How good is he?????).

@Perry83: Oh fuck the fuck off

Chomp: Can he Bend It Like Beckham?

Peteseeger: I believe he has gone AWOL – Oh Romeo, Romeo , wherefore art thou Romeo?

Beelieve!: We don’t do vanity trials (at least I hope we don’t) – so I expect he’s decent……

Edmundo: Well if he’s as good in relation to his father as Erling Haaland is, he might be some player!

alexcavell: Would make sense to add to our sons of 90s/00s footballers, with Lisbie, Dickov, Vine and Pressley already on the books

N5022N122: Surely ends up at Salford.

Inappropriate Smilies Bee: Our last signing from Posh done ok

Inappropriate Smilies Bee: Forest just offered us £35million for him!

Jase: Good luck to him, will hope he enjoys his stay, develops well, bonds with our players and you never know
