Darlington make a cheeky dig back at Blyth Spartans after signing their former player Cedric Main on earlier this week.
The Quakers came across a tweet by Blyth Spartans from Tuesday, it read: “17’ | A joint chant between Spartans and Boro’s fans of “We all hate Darlo” rings out of the Plessey Road stand. 🎶🫢”
@Official_Darlo waited for the right opportunity to respond back to it, saying: “At least somebody likes us eh lads….😉”
This came after announcing the signing of Cedric Main, who has had a number of spells with Blyth, returning from his recent loan stint with them at the beginning of January, following a highly successful loan spell at Croft Park during the first half of the season.
Main made 16 appearances for Blyth and contributed nine goals alongside six assists to the side in National League North and FA Cup action.
Throughout his two stints with Blyth, Main was undoubtedly a fan’s favourite, scoring crucial goals, as well as setting effort and performance standards.
Manager, Jon Shaw, commented on Cedric Main’s departure: “Unfortunately we lose Cedric as he returns to York after his loan has finished.
“During his spell here this season Cedric has shown how capable he is, he’s been a big player for us at times and will no doubt be a miss but we wish him the best back at York and will keep a close eye on him.”
Everyone at the Club appreciates and is greatly thankful for Cedric’s contributions and wishes him the utmost best as he aims to embark on gaining regular game time in the National League with York City.

CLUB STATEMENT ON THE SIGNING:
Darlington have today signed highly-rated striker Cedric Main for an undisclosed fee from York City.
Cedric, 26, started his career in Holland and played for several youth sides including FC Groningen, before joining CF La Nercia in Spain.
He moved to England in January 2021, and joined NPL side FC United for whom he scored 6 goals in 19 NPL games.
After a spell in the full time game at South Shields from October 2021 where he was used mostly as a substitute, scoring 3 goals in 18 games, he joined forces in September 2022 with former Shields manager Graham Fenton at Blyth. He contributed to 16 goals for Blyth and scored three himself in the league that season, as well as scoring all four in a 4-2 victory over Buxton in the FA Trophy. His goals and assists were important in helping Blyth avoid relegation.
That form was impressive enough for York to sign him and take him back into the full time game after his contract ended at the end of the 2022-23 season, but they loaned him back to Blyth in September. Since then, he scored 9 goals in 16 matches for Spartans, as well as providing six assists.
He returned to York at the end of his loan earlier this week, and manager Steve Watson quickly beat several other interested clubs to agree an undisclosed fee with York and terms with the player.
Assistant manager Terry Mitchell said; “We’re delighted to sign Cedric on a permanent basis. He’s an exciting player, and gives us something different up front. He’s got a lot of pace, and as his scoring record shows, he’s a proven striker in this league.
“We’ve been looking to strengthen this area of the team in recent weeks, and hopefully he’ll bring us the goals we need.
“We’d like to thank the fans because without their contributions to Boost the Budget, we wouldn’t have been able to sign him.”
Cedric, who has signed a contract until the end of next season, will now go into the squad for Saturday’s home game with Hereford. We would like to wish Cedric all the best during his stay with us.
We would also like to thank York City for their help in getting the transfer through before the Friday 5pm deadline.
This is how Twitter users reacted as Darlington make cheeky dig back at Blyth Spartans after signing their former player..
@E9SBY: Ray has found a sense of humour… top man 😂
@nathancoulson98: thats actually hilarious, love that
@OwenElliott098: Mind the gap lads
@AffiliatesStop: Won’t have to put up with either team when you in NPL so don’t worry too much
@Markodarlo: You’d never get two clubs thinking of Blyth during a game that didn’t involve them. Thanks huns 😘
@AndyClarke5: Embarrassing. Literally no darlo fan cares about either of you
@ayorkshiredad: Agree… Darlo don’t care. Not like they will even be playing against @safc or @Blyth_Spartans next season, in the NPL. 😂
@HoughtonQuaker: You all alright there? 😂
@Adamuddgren1: Aye embarrassing this lads
@rayner1986: Very odd behaviour, we aren’t bothered about either club 😐
@SafcRodger: Was only a small minority of Scarborough fans. Mostly Blyth. Embarrassing
@tom_breedon: When you live rent free in the heads of two clubs doing better than you that you don’t care about and never have 😂
@DarloSince1883: And that’s the literal official club account tweeting that? How unprofessional and quintessentially tinpot.
@liddle_4_ever: I’ve never given a second thought to either club. You’re both irrelevant to us.
@matthew_bartram: Mental we’re not the most embarrassing club in the league tonight
