Danny Rohl doesn’t hold back frustration after watching Sunderland thrash his Sheffield Wednesday side 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Black Cats opened the scoring just 11 minutes in, Jack Clarke won a free kick for the home side as he goes down 30 yards out under contact from Josh Windass. Patrick Roberts sent his delivery to the back stick, meeting Dennis Cirkin who was left unmarked to head home.
Four minutes later, it was 2-0, Owls keeper James Beadle played a ball into Josh Windass’ feet 40 yards from goal. Looks to flick it around the corner but missed it entirely and the ball bounces off a Sunderland player and straight to the feet of Eliezer Mayenda in front of goal.
It was 3-0 after 24 minutes, the hosts won a corner down their left with the ball played short to Jack Clarke, squared it across the area for Chris Rigg, his shot took a huge deflection and was bundled in by Luke O’Nien.
Shortly into the second half, Sunderland netted their fourth goal, Chris Rigg played Jack Clarke in behind the defence down the Sunderland left, a ball meeting the on-rushing Eliezer Mayenda to score.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl speaking to Sky Sports:
“It’s hard to take. After the last few games, it looks easy.
“Of course, we had every ambition to take something here. We had belief. I take this and the responsibility for such a defeat.
“We did everything right to prepare but this is football. Today, we have to show after a big defeat that we stay together. It’s a process.
“We were good in the first ten minutes then we conceded the free-kick. Everyone was like, ‘What happens now?’
“We conceded the second and the third one. It’s hard to take and we have to learn. We need to keep it smart and simple.
“For me, it’s about keep going and to improve. We had moments but the last step we missed. This is what we have to improve.
“At half-time we adapt but concede the next one, it’s hard to come back. We changed the shape and players but in the end it was not enough.”
“We wanted to take something here”

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris speaking to Sky Sports:
“I’m happy, for sure. It was a perfect first game at home with this win.
“It’s good for us and we scored early. Just after the restart of the second half, too.
“I said in the dressing room, we have a talented group with many talented players. We can create on the pitch but the basics we need to build.
“Recovering the ball and counter pressing, this part was good today. For the second goal, we recovered the ball well and had this intention.
“I’m very happy for him [Mayenda] because he wants to improve. I see him every day on the pitch.
“During training, he’s very involved in his progression. He has many qualities to develop but he wants to. Today is a reward and a good example for the team.”
“It was a perfect first win at home” π

Fans gave their reaction as Danny Rohl doesn’t hold back frustration after watching Sunderland thrash Sheffield Wednesday…
@AlexSwfcOsborne: Reality check today #swfc back down to earth
@richygill82: Said last few seasons, but Windass a pre Madonna, bags of talent but actually thinks heβs better than he is. Last week was clearly spot on, today, thinks heβs already done the hard work to earn the flicks and swagger… nope #swfc
@Zilandj156303: Danny rohl looks fucking fuming manππ #safc
@Jayroper9Jamie: Absolutely schooled & bullied in every department hope it’s just a 1 off and 1 of those days!!! We dust ourselves and go again onto Leeds Friday!!! Alot for Danny to think about #swfc
@andymcelwaine: Big reality check for us today. And we’ll come up against better teams than Sunderland too. A team with out experience compared to theirs shouldnβt be schooled like this. #swfc
@1987HLW: From absolutely brilliant to horrendous. Midfield is still a worry. Players like palmer coming on isnβt good enough. Windass disgrace today, still a 1in 5 player. Plays well v bad teams, good teams goes missing #SWFC
@IChambers82: Absolutely dreadful today, nothing has come off, Sunderland miles better, plus also had some luck, defensive midfielder needed this week #swfc
@ewanarm: Today shows where we truly are, a new side, a new way of playing and it is going to take time. But we have been awful today. #swfc
@CurtHicks5: Danny Rohl fuming with this, go order him a proper club with a half decent squad.
@_CharlieThePooh: let this be a lesson to us all #swfc – sometimes we will play well, sometimes we will not. the most important thing is to keep our heads in both situations and just enjoy the riiiiiiideeeeeeeeee πΊ
@taffaroo97: Rather not lose 4+ nil but a bit of a reality check for some of our fans talking of promotion. There will be days like this but we’ll finish clear of bottom 3 and that’s it #swfc
@_billy_glover_: Who remembers what happened last time we got battered 4-0 π Went on to pull of a miracle survival so hopefully this is a good one to get out of the way nice and early and will give us a rocket up the arse to go on a winning streak #swfc
@RussAmos333: Well and truly humbled today! Lick our wounds and move on #swfc
@S73_owl: Danny Rohl has to take this one on the chin for me, poor individual mistakes , but you canβt set up to play the same way against everyone, has to find a Plan B #swfc
@PowleyJacob: Josh Windass putting in an early contender for worst Championship performance of the season #swfc
@TGF_FC: Josh Windass having the stinker of all stinkers for Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon. Can look at home for all 3 goals inside the opening 25 minutes
@ScottWisely5xo: Josh windass at fault for all 3 Sunderland goals ππ
@dexteritybox: Game gone from individual mistakes within 20 minutes. No excuse for not pulling certain players in the first half and changing it earlier. We learn from it. For me, we need a holding midfielder in next to Bannan and Ingelsson to replace Windass in the 10. We’ll see. #SWFC
@1987HLW: From absolutely brilliant to horrendous. Midfield is still a worry. Players like palmer coming on isnβt good enough. Windass disgrace today, still a 1in 5 player. Plays well v bad teams, good teams goes missing #SWFC
@Wawaw2002: We got battered under rohl a few times last season. Every time we recovered and picked up form after. So hopefully that’ll continue #SWFC
