Daniel Farke said, per Dewsbury Reporter: “I risked a little bit this game with having eight or nine rotations. I was of course hoping that we still find a way in order to be successful.
“I’m responsible that we won’t win the Carabao Cup this season. I take it on the chin and the reason we lost was that we changed so much.
“Of course, we would like to show a better performance, especially in the home game and a better outcome.
“The first 25 minutes in the second half were not great and everyone has the right right now to be critical and to be disappointed. So are we. But everyone knows that’s normally not us.
“We’re normally pretty, pretty good at defending, with the most clean sheets last season, we had a brilliant pre-season without conceding.
“We know in order to grind out results, we have to make sure we concede less and we are more rock solid than we were today, especially in this 25 minutes. We know this and we are capable to do this.”

Michael Carrick said, per Yorkshire Post: “I’m really happy with the boys. I made the changes and that’s what we were after, we believed in the squad and the players we’ve got. There were so many positives individually and collectively all the way through the team with the ball and without the ball.
“I thought it was a really positive night for us and I’m just really, really pleased as much as anything to keep a clean sheet and score really good goals.
“Individually I thought the boys were fantastic.”
There is plenty of speculation regarding Josh Coburn over his future at the club, with it claimed that Boro had agreed a fee for another striker, Bristol City’s Tommy Conway with a rumoured bid of around £4.5m.
“It’s that time of year where there’s a lot thrown about in different ways but the boys have been fantastic with their focus and concentration.
“Josh played really well tonight, supported by a lot of others as well.”
On counter-attacking performance which helped see them score: “We’re trying to play with a variety and have different tools to call upon in different games.
“In the first half it was a good defensive display in general and on a couple of breaks we looked dangerous so we wanted more breaks but we wanted more of the ball and I thought we got that second half. We certainly had a lot more control.
“With Della and Izzy on each side we can cause a lot of teams problems.”
“Really pleased” 😁

Here’s how fans reacted as Daniel Farke takes the blame for Leeds’ Carabao Cup First Round exit after defeat to Middlesbrough…
@DanYorkshire: Boro made 8 changes too and didn’t look like they’d just won a magazine competition to play the game
@Charlie_B_LUFC: Middlesbrough had 7 changes and look how they played. Load of nonsense. Too many players who didn’t try hard enough. Bamford was hiding for the whole game.
@gandalflufc: Boro done the exact same though?
@AndyCJessop: This is what happens when you sell your best players and don’t replace them. Money is the issue here – any sales generated money is not being put back into the team,I believe there is still a massive hangover from Orta’s clueless financial dealings preventing proper investment.
@TylerSimo9: Apologies to the fans then for wasting their time and money to show up on a Wednesday night to watch that absolute garbage! Some reaction to the poor result against Portsmouth..! And some way to shock the moral of the full team. Boo’d off the pitch and rightly so.
@kailum__: Sell 3 first team players and don’t replace that what do you expect shocking start. Made a fortune in player sales. Do something!
@bandforgood: When you sell your best players and don’t invest, 49ers to blame.
@Charlie_B_LUFC: Disgraceful performance exposing the lack of quality in the squad. Unacceptable lack of effort from most out there tonight. Fans deserve so much more. Still we’re in good talks to spend some money so that’s ok 🤦♂️ Get some bloody players in
@J_Hardy: Get Farke gone whilst we still have time, he’s an absolute fraud. Got lucky last season with Summerville and now he’s exposed. Awful tactics, no patterns of play, no ability to change a game. Given the players at his disposal it’s abysmal on every front
@Lee6378: Embarrassing but predictable.. smallest squad in the league.. sold our 2 best players for big money and have so far failed to bring in any players in tge positions needed!
@B_JMills: Made the squad worse with a manager who relies on individual moments from players. Get rid before it’s too late!
@jondod1: Well, if you sell two of your best players and don’t replace them with sufficient quality, you’ll get worse results. Hard to say how this will play out but there’s plenty of work to do.
@talkaboutlufcv2: If the 49ers are serious about getting Leeds up, they’ll sack him tonight. Don’t make the same mistake the club did in delaying Marsch’s sacking.
@MOT4EVA: 2 best players sold. Why hasn’t the money been reinvested? On Monday morning there are 10 working days of the transfer window remaining as it shuts early this year. What are the 49ers doing ? Massive questions need answering.
@JamesHutch1919: Tactically inept. Lying to fans saying Wober wants to be here. The rat was awful and didn’t looked arsed at all.
@asgy1990: If this doesn’t show the board that we need signings, it’s going to be a long season. Squad depth is no way near good enough
@stan_sfitzmau: Very poor, Bamford is stealing a living and Ampadu has forgotten how to play midfield. Rodon can’t play without Ampadu beside him
@delidamo: Either those squad players are good enough or they’re not, Boro made similar number of changes from their weekend team, unacceptable levels of performance tonight
@fallingapartpod: Not sure I agree on this one!! The players should be taking a good long look at themselves. No pressing, no urgency and no attempt to be direct and take the game by the scruff of the neck! Saturday needs a huge reaction now!
@BanterBernie: Played like they’d never met each other til 5 mins before KO. Is Wober actually angling for a transfer by playing crap?
@dantoronczak: Continue playing them tactics he’s going to get himself the sack very soon.
@Petercu72222993: Rotate but they can still play the ball forward! Never seen such a negative game at ER
@JezH25215: If he picks Wober ever again it’s a disgrace. He was awful tonight and clearly doesn’t want to be here.
