Crystal Palace set to sack Roy Hodgson with reports emerging that 49 year old Oliver Glasner is ‘in talks’ to replace him.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that chairman Steve Parish was considering sacking Hodgson, and now it seems that a decision has been made.
The club were exploring various options, including Steve Cooper and Julen Lopetegui, while Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna also impressed, according to HITC, but it appears that they have found their preferred candidate in Oliver Glasner.
The press conference will no longer take place today as the club have just said that “Roy Hodgson has taken ill during this morning’s training session”. He was due to speak at 1.30pm https://t.co/zrBIkTFQuE

The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss has reportedly impressed Parish during discussions, and co-owner John Textor has been pushing for his appointment.
Glasner’s success in winning the Europa League with Frankfurt and his desire to move to the Premier League are said to be key factors in his appeal to Palace.
Sports writer of the Guardian, Ed Aarons, tweeted on Thursday morning: “Talks are continuing today between Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner over terms of deal to replace Roy Hodgson, with the Austrian understood to want a salary of around £4m a season.
“Hodgson due to speak to press at 1.30pm but now seems like a matter of time until he is sacked.”
Fabrizio Romano also said: “Understand Crystal Palace have made formal approach to Oliver Glasner in order to replace Roy Hodgson.
“Discussions taking place as Glasner has shown interest in #CPFC project with positive, initial feelings.
“Crystal Palace are expected to part ways with Roy Hodgson after very positive talks with Oliver Glasner.
“Glasner wants the job, more to follow on contract and details today.
“Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner will be again in contact today in order to agree on contract as German manager wants the job.
“Negotiations ongoing with Roy Hodgson expected to leave the club with immediate effect in that case.”

Writer and presenter Kevin Hatchard said via Twitter: “If #cpfc do hire Oliver Glasner, it’s a really interesting appointment. Led Wolfsburg to Champions League qualification against the odds, and then won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt and also led them to the German Cup final.
“Glasner worked at RB Salzburg as Roger Schmidt’s assistant (he ended his playing career because of a brain hematoma), and after winning promotion with LASK he got the Wolfsburg job.
“He crafted an outstanding defensive unit at Wolfsburg, and at the other end got the best from Wout Weghorst. Qualified for the Champions League, a big achievement with that group of players. After he left, they nearly got relegated, which shows his influence.
“Worth noting that a fall-out with sport CEO Jörg Schmadtke led to Glasner joining Eintracht Frankfurt. Glasner publicly critical of Wolfsburg’s transfer policy, and Schmadtke allegedly didn’t like how closed off Glasner’s coaching group had become from other staff.
“Glasner also excelled at Eintracht. Won the Europa League, beating Barcelona and West Ham along the way. Xavi said Frankfurt pressed and counter-attacked in a way he’d rarely seen, and praised the physical approach.
“Glasner also reached cup final that season, but again he had publicly criticised the club’s transfer policy, and there was allegedly a frosty relationship with sporting director Markus Krösche. His departure was announced well before the cup final, but he stayed on until then.
“Tactically Glasner is very adept. Presses smartly, and able to adjust that press when needed. Wants his teams to be physical, and is good at organising a defensive unit. Tends to have an honest relationship with his players, but is demanding.
“Fascinated to see what he does if he gets the job. Speaks excellent English, so no communication issues there. Rate him highly as a coach, but those above him would have to be prepared to have a demanding coach who would want a say on how the squad is shaped going forward.”
This is how Twitter users are reacting as Crystal Palace get set to sack Roy Hodgson with 49 year old Oliver Glasner ‘in talks’ to replace him…
@red_blue_review: Let’s hope so… the fan base is united by the need now to replace Hodgson and Glasner has an impressive coaching career to date.. the PL with a club like ours seems a natural progression… #CPFC 🤞🦅
@BearCPFC: He’s only cheaper than Roy aswell 😅
@DadAllOver77: Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet? Has he gone yet?!
@JRodrigues09v2: Only 1m more than serial loser Roy Hodgson, how is parish gonna squirm his way out of this one
@OllyAllison: Looking forward to the first ‘rough patch’ we go through under Glasner and neutral fans saying “you should never have sacked Roy” 😂😭 #CPFC
@BearCPFC:
Oh Glasner woooah
Oh Glasner woooah
He won Frankfurt the cup
By fucking Rangers up
Oh Glasner woooah
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@trippiemaz: Roy gonna be on smoke if he takes the presser
@onporter: So we basically spend weeks trying to convince Cooper or McKenna to join, are in a worse league position, and have opted for a better manager? 🤷♂️ #cpfc
@29Tommy53: Show him the money
@mfcpfc21: Imagine if they sacked him halfway through the presser
@simmoshiner1997: Happy f*cking Thursday! Oli Glasner’s bastard shagging Palaceeeeeee 🦅🦅🦅
@HJOHNSON_28: All this talk about Glasner getting my excited about football again! #CPFC
@oliasofcpfc: If he keeps us up, then it’s worth it.
@Sumo08112: If they let him take the presser that’s pure evil
@Rich789: Unfortunately for Roy & his team I think a change is needed to try & give our season a lift, it’s dragged on too long now & if a capable guy who wants the job is available then surely it makes sense? 🤷🏻♂️ Roy should have left at the end of last season 💯 #CPFC
@_KRM97_: An icon, both in and out of the dugout. A gentleman, fantastic manager, someone who understood us, shared the same values, ethos and who oozed class and knowledge as an individual. Croydon Born and Bred. Palace Boy. One Roy Hodgson 🔴🔵 Cheers for everything Gaffer 😀 #CPFC
@2801brandon: I agree with the sentiment that Roy has done us a favour. However, he has taken that favour and shat all over it with his ego. #cpfc
For those asking about Glasner, a name unfamiliar to many of us before the last 24 hours or so… A defender in his playing days and a one club man with Austrian side SV Ried. Probably a more successful coach than player with a win rate of 48.7%. #CPFC 🙏🦅 pic.twitter.com/cfdqhwx3Pr
