Crystal Palace eye up Championship boss to replace Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace eye up a Championship boss as a list of potential candidates to replace Roy Hodgson builds, according to reports.

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper is being looked at by the Eagles with a audacious move for him being plotted in the summer.

The former England youth coach is currently impressing at the Welsh club his side finishing the 2019/20 season in 6th place, and competed in the playoffs.

His side snatched snatched a spot from Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season with Brentford knocking them out of the playoff semi-finals.

This season has been even better for Cooper with the club currently sitting 3rd in the Championship table and look set to be right in the race for automatic promotion as we look to the second half of the season.

Because of this, Palace want Cooper and the best chance they have at getting him would be if the Swans fail to get promoted to the big time this season.

Palace seem to have run their course under Hodgson, currently sitting in 13th place of the Premier League table and look to be safe unless a miracle happens for those in the relegation zone.

The South London side want to revamp their squad in the summer with a host of players out of contract and the average age of the squad also needs to be cut.

73-year-old Roy Hodgson’s deal expires in June and he is yet to be offered an extension.

Swansea City manager Steve Cooper was recently named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for January.

A difficult-looking run of fixtures, including meetings with promotion rivals Watford and Brentford, was navigated with ease by Cooper whose ability to adapt his side’s style helped accumulate 10 points from four unbeaten games.

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “January looked a tricky month on paper for the Swans, but Steve Cooper’s side rose to the task admirably. While balancing an impressive-looking FA Cup run, they picked up 10 points from a possible twelve in the league, despite a couple of tricky looking away games against Barnsley & Rotherham.

“Swansea are set to be right in the mix for automatic promotion to the Premier League if they can maintain this consistency, and if they do, they’ll reflect on the month of January as being very significant.”

Fans reacted as Crystal Palace eye up the Championship boss to replace Roy Hodgson…

@oliasofcpfc: This is exactly the direction we need going forward.

@osian_davis: Omg please

@Joe16900: If they are serious about this it should be done now !!!! If Swansea get promoted you won’t get him if this is what you want @CEO4TAG show ambition and make it happen now

@LouisWhite_: We can dream

@joelcpfc_: YES YES YES

@LeeMGill: He looks like an extra from Trainspotting

@wayneoG: Can you imagine our lot trying to play like Swansea

@Steven_James_: I wouldn’t leave Swans to go Palace. Sideways move, especially where Swansea are in league

@Markakajoe: Always looks pissed

@Sandhurstwolf: Lets hope he gets swansea up and sticks with them

@baldeagle0711: Why on earth would he come to Palace

@swxn_sam: Backwards step

@T_h_tt: What a move that would be.

@JBsOpinions: Wow that could be exactly what they need to inject a little life into the team

@NotRLFC: Now that’s a good choice

@jackswan1411: Pretty obvious that clubs on a budget in the PL will be looking at Cooper over the next 12 months. Let’s hope we get promoted and he doesn’t have a decision to make for a while yet!

@steven_palace: this would be a great appointment idc

@PKA_1979: Now were fucking talking. #cpfc

@ForeverAYellow: would be a quality appointment that should they be able to get him, sometimes need a refreshing change bringing in a young manager with a lot of passion. Done so well so far impressing for Swansea, if they don’t go up, reckon he’ll be off in the summer, only time will tell. The likes of Roy and Pulis should just retire now, they’ve done their due

@Bristol_jack79: Big revamping job for whoever gets it!

@WlLFRIEDZAHA: The summer ffs needs to happen now
