Crawley Town rebrand questionnaire put to fans described as ‘one of the worst things ever read’

The Crawley Town rebrand questionnaire put to fans has been described by some as ‘one of the worst things ever read’.

Some of the questions that were asked were –

– Which animal best represents Crawley Town FC?
– If Crawley Town was a dish what would it be and why?
– If Crawley Town FC were a character in a move, who or what would they be?
– If Crawley Town FC had to create a new mascot, what should it be?
– What’s the funniest or most unusual thing you’ve ever seen at a Crawley match?

@CarolBates tweeted: “And this is why you get in a CEO who knows about English football & the EFL. Someone who would know not to ask these questions to football fans. 🙄 And, no, we don’t need to create a new mascot, we have a perfectly good Red Devil, after our nickname. My God. 🤦🏼‍♀️”

To which Preston Johnson, Crawley Town chairman Preston Johnson, replied: “We’re using a (UK) brand identity firm that focuses specifically on football clubs. They know a lot more than me, you’re right. Some good points made nonetheless these questions are truly devastating. We’ll run them by you before we post the next one.”

Carol Bates BEM responded: ““Truly devastating” is being sarcastic. I was just being factual. As a football fan of many years, the questions highlighted, imo, just don’t belong in a survey about our Club. You don’t need to run them by me, that’s what the CTSA can help you with. They know.”

CRAWLEY STATEMENT:

Crawley Town Football Club can confirm that we have undertaken a brand identity research project that will take place over the next several months

This initial piece of work will allow us to build a foundation to build on by understanding who we are as a club today, how our history shapes and informs that, and what our supporters want out of the club going forward.

The club believes this is an important step in sharpening our brand identity that not only will bring current supporters a deeper connection to the club but will be able to attract new fans from Crawley and beyond. This work will help inform our communication styles and presentation digitally, with fans, and with current and future commercial partners. We are not alone in this journey; several other clubs have completed or are in the process of undergoing similar exercises

“Making sure we have the right tools and foundations in place to push us forward is a key goal for us this year, and initiating work on our brand and our identity is a key initiative,” said Vice-Chairman Ben Levin. “We have a lot to be proud of here at Crawley Town. We have a rich history and a strong fan base with a lot of love for this club. We want to wrap that all together into a clear brand identity that we can all rally behind and moving into next year and beyond.”

To begin the process, we ask that you participate in the fan survey by clicking this link. Bringing in your opinions is crucial to the success of the project. Crawley Town FC is more than just a football club; it’s a part of this community, and we’re on a mission to understand what makes it special to each person.

The survey contains a series of questions about Crawley as a place and Crawley Town as a football club. Understanding the combination of place and Club are important to how we grow together. The survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete and random winners will be selected and may receive tickets, merchandise, and exclusive experiences.

Another way to get involved is to participate in one of our focus groups, which will take place on January 31st. To reserve your spot in one of these sessions, please click this link and enter your name and email address in the time that you will attend.

There will also be opportunities to talk with the team leading this project before kickoff vs. Wrexham on February 1.

We will continue to update you over time with outcomes of the project.

This is how fans reacted with the Crawley Town rebrand questionnaire put to fans described as ‘one of the worst things ever read’…

@townsendaround: Good god almighty. Did nobody read this before it was posted? Did nobody in the office or the boardroom take a look and think ‘hang on a minute!” I find that astounding.

@AlexBurke1: The questionnaire is bad enough but @SportsCheetah coming on here to belittle fans who have questioned the relevance and timing is appalling

@MattAddinall: Reality is, this is a waste of time. Time and time again this sort of stuff has been tried and achieves nothing. The only thing that truly drives attendances are results. Ripping a successful team apart last summer has put the club back years. Well done WAGMI.

@ctfcwes: You lot are a fucking embarrassment , how about sell up ? @WAGMIUnited @SportsCheetah

@peterbellamy: Some of the questions are embarrassing. 🤦‍♂️

@Joshctfc: Smack bang in the middle of a transfer window, still yet to see any incoming players to turn our season around, but don’t worry chaps, I’ll let you know my favourite “hidden gem” in Crawley….

@TheRedSeagull92: How about you lot leave your offices wherever you are and come to Crawley and have a look at what the culture is like for yourself? Embarrassing…

@showponyshirts: How about not selling our entire squad at every given opportunity… that would make me tick 👍

@ItzNathan0: 4 hours late but the questionnaire is quite possibly one of the worst things I have read in my life

@ctfc_fan: @SportsCheetah How are you lot still so tone deaf and devoid of any ability in reducing the void which you are driving between the club and the fans

@danp_89: @SportsCheetah @EbenNotEvan ‘What character in a movie?’ ‘What dish would Crawley be?’ – Guys genuinely is this serious? A League 1 football club asking their fans what bloody food they think their club is like? If you took on board advice given from the off, this is avoidable.

@danp_89: – @SportsCheetah you guys have been here for what? Two and a bit years? How can you not know by now?

@fan_ctfc: Another tone-death Crawley Town tweet? Imagine my shock.

@LowerThanRy: I’ve been going since I was 10. From a loyal fan, forget brand identity. Sell up before we don’t have identity left. We’ve went through the Majeeds, 10 mins away from going out of business, that was bad but your ownership model has been abysmal. You’ve undone every positive.

@Tom43772579: Here’s an idea, Get them fucking morons gone.
