Crawley manager suspended pending investigation over serious allegations

Crawley Town manager John Yems has been suspended pending an investigation over serious allegations, confirms the League Two side.

The FA are looking to Yems being accused of using racist language towards several of the club’s players this season with a group of Crawley players raising issues regarding Yems’ conduct and alleged use of offensive language.

The Daily Mail claim that their unhappiness initially flagged to the Professional Footballers’ Association and then passed on to the FA.

The matter is being looked at by the FA’s disciplinary department, who could end up charging Yems with a breach of rule E3, which prohibits discrimination against another individual’s protected characteristics such as race, colour, religion, sexual orientation or disability.

Late Friday, Crawley Town Football Club was made aware of serious and credible accusations that first team manager John Yems used discriminatory language and behavior toward our players.

We take these allegations seriously and, effective immediately, have suspended him indefinitely as we investigate and consider further punitive action.

Let us be clear: Crawley Town Football Club stands behind our players, employees and supporters, and we will never tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind.

This comes as Crawley Town travel to Mansfield Town for this weekend’s clash, with the Stags more likely of getting a playoff place at the stage with four games remaining for both clubs.

John Yems went viral earlier this week after claiming midfielder Isaac Hutchinson ‘has filled more positions than a porn star’ in recent weeks amid Crawley’s ongoing injury issues.

The 62-year-old has gone down a hit on social media with some of he angry post-match interviews.

Yems’ latest comments has seen him compare one of his Crawley Town kids to a porn star, saying on Thursday: “We’ve got 15 players to pick from. We’ve had the same 16/17 for the last…five games? Hutch has played in more positions than what he’d get if he were in a porn film.”

The veteran boss – who previously was part of Bournemouth’s rise to the Premier League under Eddie Howe – recently served a touchline ban after ripping into referee Brett Huxtable back in February after Crawley lost 1-0 against Hartlepool.

Yems said: “He [Huxtable] can’t move around the pitch. I don’t want to see anybody sent off but you see a tackle out there today. The geezer (Bogle) should have got six months, let alone a yellow card. And you can’t talk to him about it.

“You get the hump. Of course you get the hump. And I get sent off – deservedly. You shouldn’t talk to referees like that. But if that’s a referee, I’m going to take the game up myself because that is not acceptable. The three of them, to be fair… the fourth official has agreed he should have gone. And then the geezer scores a goal.

“Payney will be out now. Payney has got a mark on his leg like Jack the Ripper has got hold of him. But you can’t say nothing to these clowns because they won’t do nothing. And I mean clowns. Absolutely ruined the game.”
