Coventry manager Mark Robins left devastated as news emerges on Callum O’Hare

Coventry City manager Mark Robins says he has been left devastated as news emerges on Callum O’Hare, injured in the game vs Sheffield United.

His worst fears were confirmed as he spoke to the media about the 24 year old, who has unfortunately suffered a ruptured ACL that will keep him out for at least nine months.

The midfielder landed awkwardly on his right knee in the second minute at Bramall Lane in the Boxing Day fixture, when he had to be stretchered off the pitch.

Scans show that he now needs surgery to repair the ligaments on the joint.

“We have lost Callum O’Hare so we have that to deal with,” said Robins, speaking after the 0-0 Championship draw at home to Cardiff Cit, as per CoventryLive.

“He’s ruptured his ACL so it’s terrible news. We’re devastated, absolutely devastated for him because he just lives for football and it’s something he is just going to have to live without for a little while but be around us. We will get him as fit as we possibly can and hope that we can get him back as soon as we can.

“The operation is booked but they have to get the knee dry and a full range of movement if you can, so his knee needs surgery and sorting out and we’re looking at September at the earliest next year.”

“We knew when it happened and we were just hoping and praying we were wrong.

“He’s obviously devastated. We’re all devastated. He’s had a tough old start to the campaign with his injury and then this. He’ll get the best support and the best surgery and best rehab, and that’s what we have got to do with him. And he has to get himself mentally prepared for that, and he will because he’s mentally strong and is a strong kid.”

O’Hare sent a tweet out to his followers: “Everyone knows how much I love football. Gutted & heartbroken. You can’t change the past, only prepare for the future. It’s a long road but I can’t wait to see you all whenever that is.”
