Contact has reportedly been made as Sheffield Wednesday ‘hold talks’ with 59 year old Italian Giuseppe Iachini over the manager’s job.
The newly promoted side are looking at the three-time Serie B promotion winner, who is said to be keen and has been heavily linked with the vacant role in the last few days.
His chances of getting the job have been given a boost with Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato saying discussions between the Championship outfit and Iachini have taken place “in the last few hours”.
According to reports in Italy, #SWFC are in contact with Giuseppe Iachini as they continue their hunt for a manager…
He’s been looking for his next challenge since leaving Parma last year. https://t.co/pdxQCn2gbG

Iachini has left jobless since he departed Parma in 2022 after missing out on the promotion play-offs.
He has managed out in Italy for two decades now, having spent time at Brescia, Palermo, and Fiorentina along with three promotions from Serie B to his name with Chievo in 2008, with Brescia in 2010, and with Palermo in 2014. But overall, since 2002, he’s managed 16 clubs!
Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri expressed a desire to bring in a new boss before squad membes return back to pre-season training later this week.
“Of course my preference is to have the manager in place for when the players return but at the same time, this appointment will not be rushed,” he said. “It is all about getting the right manager for our club, whether that is from the UK or overseas or anywhere in the world.”
The likes of Vitor Campelos and Benito Carbone have also thrown their hat into the ring with Alan Nixon saying last Saturday that Iachini was keen on the role while Tuttomercatoweb add that contact continued between the two after he was overlooked for the Sampdoria job, with that role going to Andrea Pirlo.
Iachini was most recently at Parma, where he was axed last May having just won seven of his 25 games at the helm.
This is what fans are saying as contact is reportedly made as Sheffield Wednesday ‘hold talks’ with 59 year old over manager’s job…
@Owlizee: This would be up there with looking at 200 CB’s and signing Van Aken. I’d much prefer Dean Smith.
@LetchworthOwl: Not surprising how many jobs Iachini has had… Italian chairman are generally very trigger happy….would be more worried he’s seen as a defensive coach as that mindset doesn’t seem to work in England anymore #swfc
@DinoPaggiossi: Because chansiri wants managers on the cheap. He says he wants the best for the club 🤔 No he wants a yes man! It’s on his terms or nothing, that’s why Moore left by the looks of things.
@jturner1867: Stinks of cheap Chansiri option 🤔
@ChrisBramms: We’re going down, and it will all be down to one person.
@_dAveFletcher_: This does not fill me with confidence. 9 wins out of last 35. He’s only stayed at a club for 100 games once in his career, 8 times for less than 30. He’s never managed outside of Italy.
@22DBPOwls: He gets a job done but Jesus. His tactics are gonna be dreadful to watch.
@HarryLister13: “Wouldn’t have to google him”
@GoalShort: Commences Google search 👀
@PeterBu1981: No … Awful record from what I can see
@EddietheOwl: Why is he even under consideration. His record is awful, never managed in England and will know virtually nothing about the club and players. Stinks of one man this….
@crampyyyyyy: The fact that he’s even being considered just shows Chansiri has absolutely no plan. He’s on another planet
@Matthewowl1990: So chansiri has lied to the fans! Saying he wants an attacking manager but this guy plays 5 at the back! And also says we won’t have to Google as we will know the next manager without googling leave the club immediately
@callumf84858484: Buzzing to see 5 at the back defensive football against Cardiff at home #swfc
@ashda32: Screams disaster. His record doesnt exactly suggest long term planning and stability
@WednesdayRetro: Let’s hope our Clueless owner has learnt lessons.. JOS.. Need somebody who knows English football
@Richardybid: We had a perfectly good manager and now we are trying to find a manager who can work with an unpredictable chairman and a budget of sixpence. Its a complete mess that should never have happened. Guess we are now approaching the bottom of that barrel.
@e_swfc: Only managed in only 2 divisions (very diff from the championship) for 20 years with almost as many clubs. A serial failure journeyman with no experience? Sounds like Paixao & Chansiri’s routine championship recruitment to me #swfc
@CarlosElsworth: His statistics don’t look great, been in loads of jobs and tends to last around a year in those jobs.. not many promotions.. personally I’d be looking elsewhere…
@MrPaulPashley: If the appointment isn’t a step forward from big Daz ( which will take something impressive! ) then get ready! Surely the fan base will not accept mediocre with season ticket prices..
@owlsaboutthat1: This would be a huge underwhelming appointment and would represent a step backwards. Style of play is awful he’s literally won 9 games of football since 2021
@Ryan_Guesty: Personally I’m a happy go lucky type of guy, let’s roll the dice see how an ‘unknown’ manager gets on… 🤷🏻♂️ #swfc
@MarkTreanor10: Never lasted a year at 20 clubs (yes 20) he’s managed. Blimey 🥴
@Dmba1867: He’s had more clubs than tiger woods
@19592210alan: He’s had more sacks than postman pat .
@RobertEBonser: Would be a disaster, I watch a bit of Italian footy, trust me Iachini is NOT the answer……
@_oswfc: Out of the current top favourites it’s Jones, Iachini or Campelos for me #swfc
@RussAmos333: Whoever comes in, I’ll support them and give them a chance! #swfc #wawaw
@Alex1021121: Anyone else worried with not having a manager all the quality players are going. an IF we are doing a top 6 charge, we’re doing it with a load of poor quality cause that’s what’ll be left to pick from #swfc
@maccaowl: Tick tock sheffield wednesday 🥴 #swfc
