There is concern for newly promoted Prescot Cables as the managerial team and several players leave amid fresh ‘turmoil’.
The 7th tier club just a few months ago won the 2023–24 Northern Premier League Division One West playoffs having finished 3rd out of of 20 teams, 67 points from 38 games, one point behind 2nd place Runcorn Linnets and 11 behind champions Leek Town. Then beat Bootle 1-0 in the semi final then won 2-0 against City of Liverpool in the final.
But now comes the shock news that manager Ste Daley and assistant Peter Cumiskey have parted ways with the club.
It was announced at 9:55pm on Monday (16 July), with news then coming that their pre-season friendly against Marine for less than 24 hours later was being cancelled.

Statement from the Board of Directors
Prescot Cables Football Club wish to inform supporters that First Team Manager Steven Daley and First Team Assistant Manager Peter Cumiskey have stepped down from their roles with immediate effect.
Following an evaluation of the clubs financial obligations for the upcoming season and our projected outgoings it has become clear that our initial agreed budget is not sustainable. The long term sustainability of the club will always be our first priority.
We thank both Steven and Peter for their enormous contribution to the club since their appointment in February 2023.
Prescot Cables will be making no further comment at this time.
As seen below, Off The Park’s Stephen Killen tweeted: “Shock news out of Prescot Cables tonight.
“Club aren’t under threat financially but the budget has proved to be an issue, from what I understand.
“Player contracts remain valid but can still be terminated.
“Honestly – no idea what happens next.
“It won’t be a surprise to anyone but clubs across the region now circling for the promotion-winners and new arrivals.
“A mass exodus, one way or the other, looms unless something drastically changes.
“The resignation of Ste Daley and Peter Cumiskey has surprised most, if not all, after a disagreement over the revised budget.
“Kyle Sambor plus new signings Andy Scarisbrick and Brandon Newell among the first to leave.”
On Tuesday morning, Ben Elliott who had signed for the club on the 30th of May, tweeted: “In light of recent events I won’t be playing for Prescot Cables this season. I’m currently looking for a new opportunity so please could any managers or players get in touch.
“Also want to say a huge thank you to Steve Daley for bringing me in.
“Excited for what’s to come 💪”
The club had made a number of new signings, and many signed new contracts.
Manager Steven Daley came in to replace Kevin Lynch back in 2023, guided the club to safety, then went beyond expectations and won promotion.
He and assistant Peter Cumiskey extended their stay by one year this summer, but are now no longer in charge, amid a ‘standoff between respective parties over the budget and it’s demands’.
Off The Park add that players who signed contracts aren’t affected, but we are seeing some players leaving. The management team are expected to quickly find a new club.

There is plenty of concern for the newly promoted Prescot Cables as the managerial team and players leave amid ‘turmoil’…
@suethefoo: Budget agreed by board and Ste told. Board backtracked. Club attracted 40+ new sponsors last season. Board lacks ambition & business acumen. Only hope is decision is reversed. GREAT PRESSURE from fans should be directed at the board to achieve this. These are facts not rumours.
@Stu8886_: Actually gutted for the fans, apart from a few excitable 12 year olds they’re a top bunch, but this has turned into a complete shit show
@Nonleaguenorth2: Wow – Shocking this. Initial Budget…. Someone fucked up here and got to feel for the fans as well as Management and players who committed.
@Patsnaba: WTF I’ve got a gun and I’m pointing it at my foot. Anyone know the crack with refunds on season tickets??
@Smithdom123: Embarrassing ruined the club.
@SteH90: Not good news for Cables.
@MurdishawM: Need to be careful with the bog roll and pie budget at non league level The fans will be rightly pissed off MM🥷
@harvss_: What the fuck 🥴
@DanMRoberts1: Bloody hell
@mozzerjnr: What a mess Prescot Cables are in!
@dbowes14: @PrescotCablesFC what does it take for them bums of a board to go.The disgust and hatred towards them after ruining our club after an incredible year is obvious.They’re too cowardly and clear scumbags to own up to their fault.A riot should take place #sacktheboard
@Finders82: Serious board mismanagement at prescot cables. Hugely disappointing as a linnets fan to see the team promoted ahead of us imploding
@AVillaFootball: Madness goings on at Prescott cables … absolutely crazy 🤯
@keithjones1943: What on earth is going on at Prescott cables. Season about to start.
@RyanFitzpatric0: What has happened at Prescot Cables?
@Gill_BTay: What’s the scoop Prescot Cables, blimey some statement that.
@Andrew_Heaton: Prescot Cables, fucking hell
@upthefcknreds: fucks goin on with prescot cables
