Commentator goes viral with what he said as Wrexham comeback to beat QPR 3-2 in stoppage time

A commentator goes viral with what he said as Wrexham comeback to beat QPR 3-2 with two goals scored in stoppage time.

Queens Park Rangers had led twice, with Harvey Vale scoring after 6 minutes, Wrexham equalised through Callum Doyle on 54 minutes, then then Steve Cook headed in from a corner in the 80th to make it 2-1.

Wrexham levelled through Josh Windass in the 93rd minute, then substitute Ollie Rathbone sealed all three points for his side with a 95th minute strike from 25 yards. QPR also had Amadou Mbengue sent off on the 90th minute.

The hosts drop to 12th despite dominating much of the game, while Wrexham climb into the Championship play-off places, sitting 6th.

The commentator in Wrexham’s footage which has gone viral was be heard saying: “Rathbone now, whips it into the box and it’s attacked, drops loose, Moore is there, can’t quite get there. It’s hacked away. Rathbone, constant this. We’ve got nine seconds left of the four added minutes. Added a minute in, minute’s on. Rathbone, long range. “I love that man. Ollie Rathbone, have my children please take them!”

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has told BBC Wales:

“That’s football for you – Tuesday we concede late and everyone’s so flat and today we score two late goals and it’s a brilliant day for us.

“Elements were against us, it was windy and bobbly and they mastered it better than as but as the first half went on we got more quality in our play.

“Second-half I thought we were brilliant, disappointed to concede from a corner but the response was outstanding and nothing more than we deserved.

“If you look at the goals we scored today, on a difficult surface, they were really high quality.”

Parkinson, per Sky Sports:

“You saw how quickly we got the ball and got back (after the late equaliser).

“We smelt blood. You can feel that as a team sometimes. Their lad got sent off, I don’t know whether that impacted it or not, but you felt that we were the team most likely to go and win it.

“Josh showed incredible technique and what can I say about Ollie – his goals-per-minutes, it’s probably the top in the league.

“The big thing for us was that we were leaving players out of the team that may have expected to play. I felt the professionalism of the group got us the win.

“Players are always disgruntled when they’re not in the team, but there was a togetherness about the group and that showed, particularly with Josh and Ollie.

“It was difficult out there. It’s probably the worst pitch in the division. To go away with the three points is a big bonus for us.”

QPR head coach Julien Stephan has told BBC Radio London:

“The result is a big disappointment especially the style of the game.

“The quality of the game is not a disappointment because I think we played very well in the first half.

“We should have been 2-0 up and then I think the second half would have been different.

“To finish with 10 players had a huge impact at the end of the game and to concede two goals is very tough for everyone mentally, but in sport sometimes you have some tough experiences and you have to learn from it and react to it.”

Stephan, per Sky Sports:

“To finish the game with 10 players in the last minute had a huge impact, I think, at the end of the game.

“But I don’t want to analyse the game only of the last five or six minutes. We need to have a full analysis of the game.

“We were very dominant in the first half and with more efficiency it (would have been) 2-0 for us. With another goal in the first half it could have been a different second half. That’s why we need to have a full analysis of the game.

“We found a way to score a second goal and the game was under control at that moment. And yes, the last four or five minutes we know what happened.

“With one less player, Wrexham’s physicality – and we know their physicality and wanted to reduce the number of their crosses, which we did very well – but with fatigue in the last five minutes and one player less, it was not possible to continue to press.”
