Chris Wilder disappointed as group of Burnley fans confront his Sheffield United players

Chris Wilder has been left disappointed as a group of Burnley fans confront his Sheffield United players after the game.

The Blades boss spoke following a 2-1 defeat at Turf Moor, which secured Burnley and Leeds’ promotion back to the Premier League.

As well as the post-match scenes on the pitch, with some fans invading the pitch and engaging in altercations, notably involving Sheffield United’s Hamza Choudhury, an incident occurred as players boarded the team coach.

Wilder criticised the lack of protection from stewards, describing the scenes as “scary” with “40 to 50 lads running at you.”

He noted the referee had promised security, but it was inadequate. Despite the loss, Wilder congratulated Burnley and Leeds United on their promotions, attributing Sheffield United’s play-off fate to a poor week of results earlier in the month.

Chris Wilder said, per The Star: “They weren’t exactly going to say: ‘All the best and good luck in the play-offs, shaking his hand.’

“We were told by the ref before that we’d get stewards surrounding us, but I think they went on the missing list. Completely on the missing list. It was quite scary out there in the end, when people are coming and doing bits and pieces at you.

“It’s understandable that their emotions are running high, but I didn’t think we got protected by the football club or the stewards one bit. I spoke to the referee afterwards and he noticed that.

“When 40 or 50 lads are running at you, saying and doing bits and pieces at the end of a game, it’s quite difficult to get off. But I’d be absolutely stunned if anything comes our way on that.”

Promotions secured as Leeds thrash Stoke 6-0 and Burnley win 2-1 to end Sheffield United’s hopes

Twitter users reacted with Chris Wilder disappointed as a group of Burnley fans confront his Sheffield United players…

@lashworth1991: As we walk out the ground their bus was parked right there. The players were coming out the same time as us, bit of friendly banter at 1st & it turned nasty as I believe Choudry has something to say & then 1 of their players spat at some1 so things erupted.

@alassince1993: Imagine, you’ve clinched promotion, have the chance of a title and you are not in the boozer singing your heart out and chucking ale about. Strange breed those Lancashire lot.

@bluerover77: This is exactly what ange was talking about. People insistent on filming for a reaction. Put your phone away and enjoy your party

@Telblades: “You fancy a pint mate, to celebrate” no mate, I’m going to shout stuff at a coach. Fucking weird c*nts.

@PeterScholes55: They’ve also just won relegation from the premier league next season

@DonnyBlade83: For one; imagine not being in the pub and celebrating promotion, but filming yourselves shouting at the away team bus? And secondly; imagine living in Burnley?

@BladesInAnOut: This is hilarious how embarrassing. Instead of going to the boozer after getting promoted they go to the players coach and put on a deep voice 😂😂

@John77Angus: Why? Of course a bit of banter etc but why the anger? Careful what ya wish for Burnley. We all know what’s happening to promo clubs atm.

@Russell19871: Strangest reaction to getting promoted you’ll see, sheer anger 😂

@FG_utb2: Hahahaha weird lot aren’t they, why can’t they just go and celebrate with their own players 😂

@alexhs_1999: Sheffield United are the ultimate give it but cry arse massively when anyone gives them anything back club/fanbase. Glad Burnley won

@Tom_Som08: Burnley fans for you. Sadly back in the prem

@carl_herrick: Embarrassing. Teams won promotion but let’s go round to the away dressing room and wait for the away team so we can give them some. What’s that all about?

@Jack14714373: All for taking piss is a leeds fan! But there’s a line and this is a long long way over it… Fucking morons

@gcxb: Did you go to the pub after you got promoted? No we went to shout at the opposition players bus instead!

@TheBladette:
Your team has won promotion, what do you do?
A) Celebrate.
B) Harass the opposition team.
B according to most Burnley fans 🤨

@finleymulroe: Go celebrate with your own players 🤣🤣 freaks

@Blade_elle: Imagine your boyfriend gets home after being at the match and goes “look at this sick video I took today” and it’s him chasing and telling the opposition to fuck off after his own teams been promoted LOL.

HAVE YOUR SAY –

What did you make of the post-match scenes marred? Can we expect some punishments handed out? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or tweet us @fan_banter
