Chesterfield make huge statement of intent with new signing

Chesterfield make a huge statement of intent with their new signing in the hope to finish higher than they did for the 2020/21 season.

The Spireites have beaten off competition and brought in the prolific striker Kabongo Tshimanga from fellow National League club Boreham Wood.

The 24-year-old, who joins for an undisclosed fee, has signed a three-year contract and is excited to get going as the club eye getting back into the EFL.

Congo-born forward Tshimanga has found the net on 37 occasions and claimed eight assists in 79 appearances in the last two National League seasons.

As seen with many reports this summer, he has been linked with a number of Football League clubs this summer, including League One outfit Bolton Wanderers, but it is the Spireites who have fought off competition to secure his signature.

And if Chesterfield are able to tempt him in, turning away interest from EFL sides, then the fee is likely to be a significant especially when you consider his goalscoring record.

On joining the club, Tshimanga said: “It feels great. You can obviously see how big the club is.

“The club shouldn’t be at this level. It deserves to be back in the Football League and that’s got to be the aim.”

Boreham Wood published their own statement, saying Chesterfield were able to sign him after they ‘activated a verbal agreement he had with the club’.

Boreham chairman, Danny Hunter, said: “He’s an outstanding young man and this club is in a better place now than when Kabs arrived. The next stage of his footballing journey now begins and I wish him nothing but success”.

Gaffer Luke Garrard commented, “In truth, I fully expected this day to come, especially after the two seasons Kabs has had with us here at Meadow Park. I honestly feel his time here at the Club has been Kabs’ most consistent period over his short career and we’ve played an integral role in his development.

“I genuinely wish Kabs all the best in the future and I’m sure he will achieve his dream of playing in the EFL and beyond. I will have many fond memories of his time at the Club, as I’m sure he will too and he knows I’m always a phone call away if he ever needs any advice… Thank you, Kabs.” Garrard concluded.

Speaking in November 2014, then Milton Keynes Dons manager Karl Robinson described Tshimanga’s style of play as “quick, powerful, he wants to run at people and he’s a constant threat.”

Pundit @adamvirgs19 said: “Brilliant signing for the club. This is a real signal of Intent from Chesterfield to sign for me the best finisher in the @TheVanaramaNL. Excellent transfer window so far really looking forward to seeing how Chesterfield play this season.”
