Charlton boss Nathan Jones doesn’t hold back as he fumes after defeat to Reading

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones doesn’t hold back as he fumes during his post-match interview after defeat to Reading.

The Addicks saw their 100 per cent start to the League One season come to an end after they were beaten 2-0 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Charlie Savage was on the scoresheet again, breaking the deadlock for the hosts in the 66th minute, striking one from distance.

Then Reading doubled their lead, Sam Smith 10 minutes later to seal all three points. The result even more impressive considering Charlton had won their opening three league games of the new season without conceding a goal before defeat on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Jones said: “Disappointing on all levels. Second-half we should have had a pen, a stonewall pen.

“Once they scored, it’s a very good strike from distance, sometimes that happens.

“The second goal is a disgrace from our point of view. An absolute disgrace, I’m raging. I’m raging with so much today. I’m raging off my nut.

“We should have had a pen. We didn’t. We were nowhere near the levels we should be.

“The second goal, whether it’s our throw or not, what happened after was a disgrace and what we did to effect that was a disgrace and I’ll address that.

“I feel sorry for them (the fans) today, they’ve been let down today.”

Reading boss Ruben Selles, via Reading Chronicle: “It was a completely different game to Wigan in terms of the opponent and what they want to do in the game. I think we adapted well and started very fast and focused on what we needed to do.

“Almost the entire first half we dominated them and kept them in their half, only the last action of the first half there were a couple of mistakes but that’s why we have Joel. In the second half, we started slower, and they got more momentum.

“We talk about managing the key moments of the game and we managed to stay strong and not concede and in one action we scored the goal, the second and closed the game. I am very proud of the work, ethics and togetherness every time they train and with those performances, we can be in a good place every weekend.

Ruben on Savage: “He scored inside the box too against Wigan. Charlie has gone through a difficult period at the end of last season but at the beginning of this season we changed his position, and he is more of an eight.

“He is starting to understand the position really well, arriving in spaces where he can score and press and win second balls. He is more mature now and needs to continue so he is the player that we want. His game is getting better and better.”

Charlton boss Nathan Jones doesn’t hold back as he fumes after defeat to Reading, here’s the Twitter reaction…

@Robb0S: Doing a great job. Minor blip.

@DanKembery_3: There’s something about Nathan Jones losing his head that kills me off 😂😂😂

@freeCAFC: In defeat he doesn’t make excuses like so many previous managers. It’s honest analysis and his approach is we look at ourselves first before we blame anyone else. That’s an approach that if the players keep buying in to will give us a winning mentality that we have lacked

@Suzysue8: I hate seeing him like this but this is a man who cares and expects more from his players. I’d rather have this reaction than crappy excuses ❤️

@MaddamsDean: Birmingham fan in peace… I’d be concerned as a Charlton fan with the lack of composure he has…. you wonder what he is like in the dressing room with the team? 😐 Good luck for the season 👍

@TheCharltonWay: Finally a manager who doesn’t say, the boys gave me everything from that performance today… #cafc

@tomgreening_: Hopefully just an off day. Onto Rotherham

@AndyJRoberts77: *I’m raging off my nut, to be fair!”. Love that response lol. Let’s hope he can get the players to respond.

@DanHatton97: Honestly love how much he cares. Makes a very nice change

@INNERSPACED1: Well done terry putting your life on the line with that interview.

@matthaff: He goes too far for me. We all want to win every game but you can’t afford to be this emotional every time you lose.

@saley1984: This geeza is right up there with that fat cunt Evans. Both a pair of pricks 😂😂

@malstar79: He looks like he missed out on Oasis tickets as well.

@ConnorArmstrong: You can tell he’s having PTSD flashbacks to his interview after Brentford away 😂😂😂 #saintsfc

@ValleyFloydFred: Love his passion and honesty. 9 from 12 points in the first month is an incredible start 👏

@JOGOBONlTO: Reading 2-2 Charlton (Nathan Jones raging off his nut 90+1, 90+4) that really helped get us the points !

@liam_birks: Good old Nutty Nath

@djliamh: Good to see he’s changed

@Joe_Cafc: He’s an absolute loony but love him for it, about time we had some life in the dugout 🤣

@Shauny_Boy: Dats what football do to ya

@TomRC1993: Reading will do that to a man.

@DanielS0N95: I love watching him meltdown

@craig_machon: Can’t stand the bloke.
