Charlie Adam has been publicly shamed by fans on social media as police arrest him with pictures doing the rounds online.
The 36 year old, currently a captain for Dundee, has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after his car allegedly hit a tree.
The footballer is believed to have been on route to Broughty Ferry from Dundee when the incident happened at 4.25am on Monday.
Pictures from the scene show a tree trunk damaged and what looks like a part of a motor, leading to Adam being arrested and charged. A report will be sent to prosecutors.
A local citizen, who lives nearby the crash, said: “I heard a loud bang outside and then silence.
“I didn’t think much more of it because you hear cars going up and down that road all the time.
“It wasn’t until the next morning I noticed a big gouge out of the tree. I was just hoping no one had been hurt.”
The ex-Rangers, Blackpool, Reading, Stoke and Liverpool player joined his boyhood heroes Dundee in September last year.
The dad-of-three – who is also a regular on BBC Scotland’s football coverage – has suffered family trauma in the last few years after his mum Eleanor died of cancer in December 2020 – something which came eight years after the death of his ex-footballer dad, also named Charlie, aged 50.
His brother Grant was jailed in October for theft. You can read more on that HERE.
Police Scotland said: “Shortly after 4.25 am on Monday, 13 December 2021 a 36-year-old man was arrested and charged for a road traffic offence in Dundee Road West, Dundee.
“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Dundee FC said: “We are aware of the incident but will be making no further comment.”
Adam was subbed off injured in Saturday’s defeat to Ross County at Dingwall.

Meanwhile, Dundee boss James McPake admitted bad decisions from his players cost them against Ross County.
He said: “Bad decisions and three terrible goals cost us all three points in a game we should have been out of sight.
“The game should have been dead and buried, we had a chance to make it 3-1 and 3-2 later. We don’t punish them but we should still be able to defend better regardless.
“We got ourselves in a really good position in the game.
“The first was a decent goal from Luke, the second an excellent goal with Max Anderson excellent. I’m gutted he’s on the losing side after that. He didn’t deserve that.
“We had experienced players who made very bad decisions. When you do that in this league, it costs you.”

As mentioned, Charlie Adam has been publicly shamed by fans as police arrest him…
@erlsellick: Charlie Adam is a scumbag, who would have thought it?
@Thenumber512: Snorting pants into the wee hours
@ThomasEvansAdur: Have no time for drink drivers. If he did it. Throw the book at him.
@johanne00692674: Didn’t he get done for driving without a licence a few years back?
@KrisPGer: Is it compulsory if you play for Dundee you need to be convicted or under serious allegations of breaking the law
@JustABhoy: Does that mean Charlie Adam won’t be in the media chatting shit about Celtic?
@JackMea86114677: Always the people you least expect. Such an intelligent man, too.
@CaIMcI: Leigh Griffiths, Charlie Adam, Jason Cummings, Paul McGowan. Dundee FC with more records than The Beatles.
@Kav3128: Shocking. Like his sisters pants, skids all over the place.
@bigcockbassey: Prison FC with an underrated signing 🔥🔥🔥
@Connor_Ryan97: He’s not a very clever man
@tommybgood45: First shot on target and decent 11 points away from home
@Lucas7_Reilly: car crash of a player
@Kiltedmarksman: Hopefully Charlie Adam realises how lucky he was that a pedestrian or worse a child was not hit instead of the tree. A car is a weapon if you are not fully under control of it, he is a lucky guy!
@Longydfc: Imagine having that much money and not getting a taxi ffs.
@DensParkChoir: The banter years never stop
@CalumWright2: Home by 10, home by 10, Charlie Adam
@Aidan72_: Dundee FC, a team full of role models.
@Geeand87: That will explain some of his punditry this year…
@KieranSeanDola1: Charlie adams driving licence nearly on the same points as dundee. Still in the relegation zone tho
@Tetley1988:
James McPake done for assault
Charlie Adam done for drink driving
