Carlisle and Stockport confirm ticket sales for the 2023 League Two playoff final

Carlisle and Stockport confirm ticket sales for the 2023 League Two playoff final, and the showpiece at Wembley is going to be packed out.

The two clubs face off in a match which will determine who will be promoted into League One for the 2023/24 season.

Paul Simpson’s team are aiming to make their first return to League One since nine seasons. They beat Bradford 3-2 on aggregate, thanks to their 3-1 win at Brunton Park in the second-leg. The Cumbrians finished the regular season in fifth place, with 76 points from 46 games.

Stockport endured non league football for more than a decade before winning promotion in 2021/22. Stockport returned to the English Football League and now have a chance of making it back-to back promotions.

If they win, it would be their first taste of League One since the 2009/10 season.

They finished the L2 season in fourth place, three points ahead of their opponent in this final.

Carlisle United’s manager Paul Simpson says that his team will not deviate from their preparations for the straight knockout against Stockport.

On the club’s website, the boss said: “We train exactly like we have been. Our season still has one week to go and we’ll be ready for it. We’ll get freshened up, and I’ve said this before, if you can’t get up for a game at Wembley then you’ve got serious problems. We’ve shown we can handle these occasions and now we have to do it one more time.”

Stockport manager Dave Challinor stated his players emptied the tank in their Edgeley Park semi-final second leg with Salford City, which was edged on penalties.

“Over 120 minutes, the lads were on their backsides in extra-time, and to come through and have an extra game is hugely pleasing.”

As of writing on Wednesday the 24th of May, Carlisle have sold nearly 14,000 of the 36,000 tickets sold.

Meanwhile, Stockport have confirmed over 13,000 tickets were sold of the 39,415 allocated to them.

@GMaggiordomo: I am travelling from Dorset Sunday morning, and have space for 1 or 2 passengers. Get in touch if you would like a price to jump in

@Rhino12344: Anyone who is a Stockport county and lives in the the Stockport area in-need of travel I have 2 spare seats in my dad’s car. Contribution to fuel would be needed. Parking space booked 10 minutes away from WEMBELY stadium will leaving at 8pm for travel back. Please DM me

@DavidJav9954: Fair play County, seems like carlisle fans are having more difficulty getting transport than tickets. I’ve priced up for the weekend, family of 3 will be close to a grand 🙈 it’s about time they moved playoff finals further north to be more central.

@Stuart47912160: That’s some effort in 1 day 👏🏻👏🏻 How are you guys finding “public transport” any trains get you there before the game? Or like us, do you have to catch a train Saturday to get you in before kick off 😀

@eiselt_tyler: Get more coaches on and more tickets will go, people are struggling to find transport due to the ridiculous prices of the trains.

@Evan_Gordon10: That’s class tbf

@Neil23578950: That’s about 12,400 more than @SalfordCityFC would have sold

@Invisiblebear84: Two decent clubs so reckon 20k is a good target for us, maybe 25k for County. Feel the travelling issues and of course, the sheer disregard for both our fans with the 13:30 kick off will stop the numbers going silly. Hopefully a great game 🤞

@BatsonMichael: Travel is the biggest problem for both sets of fans. Needs more trains and coaches.

@RannonWalker: The travel an kick of times will probably knock 10k of the final attendance 😔

@lukeash10: Superb that, well done Carlisle 👏🏻 Great fan base who clock up the miles. Safe journey down to Wembley

@sqauttingnev: Fantastic numbers that it’s going to be a good day may the best team win 🤝

@griffcounty: Proper club. Proper fans.

@Tomw0892: Great effort so far guys 👏

@AdamHaslam8: Any County fan trying degrade this quality number needs to have a head wobble. It’s a great amount so far, much further to travel & more expensive. Great effort so far and safe travel 🙌. Regards, County fan.

@deano202011: Hopefully get near 20k but 1:30 kick off on a Sunday is fuckin scandalous btw

@Andyjm0509: Great effort so far from Carlisle! For a 1.30 kick off in London, 14k with 4 days to go is really impressive

@Leef96: We are fucking massive 🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵

@W1seman1994: Considering the nightmare with travel this is absolutely brilliant

@BenHCUFC: Would be a lot higher if travel companies weren’t the greediest cunts alive.

@mccauleyijmac: Considering the kick off time, trains/buses and the fact it’s other end of the country that’s unreal so far 🔵🔵
