Cardiff urged for more security on the touchline after Tanner was injured by an advertising board fell on his leg.
He had been celebrating his side’s leveller in front a away end fans, his foot caught and the player was left in pain on the pitch.
Interviewer: Now, I have to say the substitutes played a huge part in today’s game and it came at a price for you. If the cameraman just pans down and has a look at your leg, tell us about those celebrations after this man puts the ball In the net.
Tanner: Yeah, I know. I’ll take that if It means we score a goal. Yeah. When you come on, you want to make a change. And me and Robbo, I spoke about before coming on, having an impact and that’s what we both did today, so it’s nice that it can come off.
Interviewer: Callum, those subs, as we said, did have an Impact. Was that part of the game plan today, to have a strong bench to come into this game later on?
Robinson: Yeah, I think every week subs are Important and it was nice today. Our coach, Riz, he spoke about in the meeting before the game, saying it’s not Just a start on eleven. The subs play a massive role, especially in derbies. It’s cagey, it’s tight, especially for the first 60, 70 minutes, and it does open up. So subs are important in every game and, yeah, we Just need to make sure we’re ready If we’re sub to come on and make the difference. And thankfully, today it • did.
Interviewer: Ollie, how much can this result here today lift the club season? It is only early days, but It’s the first goal in the league, the first point in the league. Is this the springboard?
Tanner: Yeah, 100%. We said. I think we said it before the game today. We lost two. We had to get something today and this game came at perfect time because there’s no bigger game. So, yeah, so that gets us going now and hopefully we can kick on.
Interviewer: We won’t go into it too. I don’t want to get Into trouble, but the manager saw red. Does that sum up the passion of this derby, Callum?
Robinson: Yeah, I’m not sure what happened, but, yeah, obviously he’s got the red card. Not sure. I haven’t ever seen what went on, but that’s what. Listen, that’s what it’s about. From management to the staff, to the fans, to us players on the pitch, it means so much to us and as I said, It’s a massive fix to this. I didn’t realise probably how big it was until I arrived here. Yeah, it is what it is with a manager. I think if he’s going to get a red in a game, at least it’s the derby one.
Swansea City: Vigouroux, Key (Naughton 77’), Cabango, Darlung, Tymon, Grimes ©, Franco (Fulton 66’), Cooper (Vipotnik 66’), Eom (Abdulai 58’), Ronald, Cullen (Allen 77’). Subs not used: Broome, Pedersen, Abbey, Bianchini.
Cardiff City: Horvath, Ng, Chambers, Daland, O’Dowda, Siopis, Robertson (R Colwill 59’), Ramsey ©, Willock (El Ghazi 70’), Méïté (Tanner 69’), Kanga (Robinson 73’). Subs not used: Alnwick, Goutas, Bagan, Rinomhota, Ashford.
Swansea manager Luke Williams on Sky Sports:
“I think it was a very cagey game, probably the first half we were the better team and deserved our lead at half-time but the second half was a lot more even. I think if we’d have scored the second goal, we would have taken the game away from them, but at 1-0 there is always that jeopardy.
“We squandered the chance today. It is frustrating as it is a huge game and we know what it means. But we didn’t get that second goal and then as a coach, you probably fear the worst and really, we got what we deserved.
“The mindset changes the longer it is 1-0. Today it felt like in the dying moments it could go either way and both coaches would have felt tense.
“On the whole we defended well, but we didn’t for one action and the ball ended up in the back of the net. We switched off for one moment and got punished.
“We aren’t looking like a bad side. We probably did enough to win today, even though a draw is a fair result. We need more consistency.”
Cardiff assistant coach Omer Riza told Sky Sports:
“We knew it would be a passionate game. We’ve worked really hard today and have ended up with a draw and overall we are happy.
“There was a challenge that frustrated Erol, he was pulled onto the pitch by one of their players and the red card is a bit harsh.
“In the previous two games, we’ve felt we’ve had some good parts, we’ve been a little unlucky with the results but we all know that the score is the important thing.
“Going 1-0 down early meant today was always difficult, but we stuck to our guns.
“In the second half we had more intent, pressed better and we always felt our subs would be important today.”
“It’s a bit harsh really getting a red card there we feel” 🟥

Here’s how fans reacted as Cardiff’s Ollie Tanner shows off the gash on his leg after an advertising board collapses on him…
@LiamaThomas21: Means so much to them drawing 1-1 😂😂 fucking hell
@gcxb: Those limbs are unreal
@the2econdcoming: Bless, Cardiff go bleating to the authorities after every derby game. Maybe man up?
@scfcharvey: their own fans pushed the advertising board over, injured their own player and now they’re questioning the security arrangements hahahaha what a dull club
@HRH148: Nothing to do with their fans then ffs
@TerrySinnett: There’s me thinking you’re a professional reporter! How did it fall on him? Cardiff fans storming forward and overrunning the stewards. I now realise you work for the S*n. Nuff said. You tarnish your profession. 🤡🤡
@elmston: If Tanner was crushed Cardiff wouldn’t pay him
@nickyfran75: Fans had encroached on to the pitch. No ?
@smutto80: Maybe if he had been wearing suitable shin pads it wouldn’t have been so bad. Fed up of refs allowing players to play wearing these pathetic little pads. It’s for their protection a nasty tackle and it could be months out or even worse plus it’s teaching the kids nothing
@WhitesHearts: Away end looks class
@jonnyhill01: What a smug bastard ollie tanner is.
@NathLewis06: that away end fucking erupted man, what a fucking moment 💙
@_Brian1867: Fucking hell the bodies there 😮💨
@Callum__RUFC: Fucking hell that cardiff end looks unreal
@kiangreen8: Listen to that away and look at the bottom section scenes 😦 only bubble fixture left in world football. Easily top 2/3 British derby game
@SleepyInSA2: Have they questioned their fans piling onto the barriers and turning it over onto his leg?
@curtisevans02: Look at them accusing us. It wasn’t our fans that cut Beavo’s leg 🤣
