Cardiff City announce shock sacking of their manager | top six favourites revealed

Cardiff City announce the shock sacking of their manager Steve Morison less than 24 hours after a 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town.

The Bluebirds currently sit 18th in the Championship after 10 games, picking up 10 points with three wins, two draws and five defeats.

The former Wales international took charge of the first team after Cardiff sacked Mick McCarthy in October 2021.

Morison signed 17 new players during the summer, but his side have won just three league matches.

Mark Hudson will take interim charge of the first team, assisted by Tom Ramasut while the club consider their options.

Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that First Team Manager Steve Morison has been relieved of his duties.

We’d like to thank Steve for his efforts during his time at Cardiff City, stabilising the first team last season and helping to evolve our squad in line with the club’s philosophy this summer. We wish him the best for the future.

Mark Hudson will oversee first team affairs at this time, assisted by Tom Ramasut, whilst the Club considers options for the position.

Steve Morison spoke to the press after the Bluebirds suffered a 1-0 loss to Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

“We didn’t start the game well, and then obviously grew into the game.” Steve began. “We didn’t make the most of our moments that we had, and we’re disappointed with that.

“We got one penalty, and should have scored that, and we should have had a second penalty. The second one is a stonewall penalty – it’s in the box by a yard. But, we can’t change it now.

“It was a difficult one today, because we didn’t know what they were going to do. They made a lot of changes – they changed their formation, and their style of play.

“We had to freshen it up, and try to hurt them regardless of what shape it was on the turnover, which we did at times in the first half, after the first ten or fifteen minutes.”

Morison continued by commenting on the substitutions made in the second half, which helped the Bluebirds control possession.

He said: “We wanted to get another striker on, and we felt that with the way they were playing there would be a lot of second balls, so we wanted to get another midfielder into the middle.

“Having Sparky on the bench, we had the ability to change, which we did. We went for it, threw a couple more up top, and dropped Callum O’Dowda back.”

On Callum Robinson, who saw his first half penalty saved, Steve added: “He’ll be gutted, and he’ll feel a sense of responsibility. He’s a good player, and he’ll be frustrated as much as anyone. I’m sure he’ll score many goals when he gets the opportunities.”

There was huge reaction as Cardiff City announce the shock sacking of their manager Steve Morison…

@connordavies612: Wrong decision lads, we will regret this

@GeorgeJones2002: What a shambles of a decision that is. 17 new players. Completely different style of football and it’s only 10 games in! It was never going to click straight away. Steve is a young manager and needed more time along with the new players. Horrible decision

@christ1ant0b: What the fuck?

@DangeSG: Wow……I was not expecting that! Must have some lined up

@BluesCcfc: Hope this means you’ve been hacked and this isn’t real!!!!!!

@Batchelor1Ow: April fools in September is weird

@MarkLewisCarter :Absolute joke. This was supposed to be a season of transition and inconsistency is expected. Something doesn’t feel right about this and it wouldn’t surprise me if this is a case of something being said behind the scenes. Ridiculous. How are we supposed to ever move forward? 🤯🤯

@MattGough10: Horrific decision, give the man a full season with his 15 new signings ffs

@NathanL46268465: i can’t believe that ffs all for trusting the process 🤬🤬

@lukebarkley1992: This club is a joke honestly

@mattbas03268166: What?? Shocking!!

@Flushed_Away: What the hell? Horrendous decision! You can’t expect instant results with 17 new signings! Where playing decent football and the fans are behind the team

@perryman775: Awful, knee-jerk reaction from the club. The board clearly want instant success but aren’t prepared to financially back it. We’re a basket case at the top.

@Bloovic: What a joke. Best football we’ve played, no luck with injuries and no time for a complete new squad to click. Wrong decision 🤯🤬 #bluebirds

@mouseyCCFC: Who is running this club? Horrific decision

@ianmackay88: The guys who run this club are the ones who need to leave. No idea what they’re doing. Ridiculous decision.

@HardwellSam: This is a shock… like really. Something must’ve gone on behind the scenes here.

@samuelxrk: Are we for real? Completely over hauled the squad and sacked this soon into the season 🤣 I am frustrated at some of the performances but he needed some time…

@Mr_Peteroy: Bit strange this, not the best of starts granted but it took bloody ages to get rid of Mick and his awful results and football, so how come Morison has been given hardly any time with so many new players

@Bluebird131999: I’m sorry what? This is way too soon to be making this decision.

@woozie2k: he signed well, he gets the clubs limitations and he wasn’t given time to allow them to settle. A real shame – he deserved more! if the club has the ability to go get sean dyche then fine it was a good call but it won’t happen and we will be worse off.
