Burton’s Charlie Webster was shown straight red card for a moment of madness with Charlton’s Terry Taylor on Tuesday night.
Albion were beaten by the Addicks at the Pirelli Stadium, Charlie Webster was dismissed for the Brewers midway through the second-half, before Conor Coventry broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute to seal the win for Charlton Athletic.
The result leaves Charlton sitting 12th in League One with 22 points from 16 games played, while Burton stay bottom of the table with just 8 points from the same amount played.
Charlton said in their match report: “Terry Taylor, a substitute on the hour mark, was very much involved in the dismissal of Charlie Webster seven minutes later. Taylor’s foul on the former Chelsea man stopped a counter-attack and forced an angry reaction from Webster who pushed over the Addicks midfielder, giving referee Elliot Bell no option but to send him off.”
Burton meanwhile said: “Albion found themselves down to ten moments later when Webster reacted to Taylor’s challenge and saw red, Taylor seeing yellow for initially hauling down the Albion man.”

Speaking post-match, Charlton boss Nathan Jones said: “I’m really happy. I asked them just to win the game tonight. I didn’t mind too much about performance but I thought it was a positive performance. We’ve had 24 shots, 11 on target, five clear-cut chances. It’s a difficult place to come too as these [Burton] are fighting for their lives.
“We’ve come away, we’ve had a tough away journey, where we’ve felt hard done by on the weekend [against Huddersfield Town]. We’ve been up here for four days, the club have done brilliantly in terms of that. We’ve come out tonight and controlled the game. They’ve had one shot on target really and Ashley Maynard-Brewer has pulled off a good save. We’ve done enough to have won the game comfortably tonight. I think if we’d scored earlier it would have been a different story, but when you don’t it can become a bit hairy but I’m delighted for the travelling fans. I’m delighted we’ve won the game.”
Jones on Conor Coventry: “He’s a fantastic player. It’s been a good week and a bit for him. He’s had his Irish call-up. We’re really delighted for him because he’s an excellent footballer. We played him a little higher today after Terry Taylor came on and that proved to be a good decision. He’s a fantastic player, we love him here and hopefully that can be a first of many.”

Burton Albion caretaker boss Tom Hounsell said: “It’s so important that we go into Monday with the right mindset and prepare properly.
“Then we go into Tuesday and look to use it as a springboard to bounce back quickly and it’s imperative that we do.
“We need to make sure that we forget about today and build on some of the positives, like our reaction in the second half, and look to Charlton and try to do the best we can.”
