CLUB STATEMENT:
On 5 July 1950, the people of Burton-upon-Trent gathered at the Town Hall to vote on the creation of a new football team. Burton Albion was established by the signing of official papers the following day.
Mr Don McPhail was appointed manager and inside-forward Norman Smith, who lived just a mile away from King Edward Place, became the Brewers’ first player.
Over the coming months and years, the football club was built on the values of hard-work, courage and authenticity. All traits found in the townsfolk of Burton and the surrounding areas.
The club rose through the county football divisions, climbed to the top of the non-league pyramid and established itself as a member of the English Football League.
Our new brand identity, celebrating 75 years of The Albion, is based on celebrating this heritage and staying true to the journey we have been on.
The new club crest is an updated version of a vintage brass pin badge found when researching items to inspire our celebratory campaign. A small symbol of the past, guiding us on a journey to the future. After consultation with fans, removing the central colour leaves us with a clean framework that will work on any of our kits.
The monogram pays homage to the beginning of this club. The BA from the centre of our brewer, the very first part of the crest to have been put to paper, has been lifted directly from the shield crest to act as a versatile emblem of this landmark year.
To honour those players who first pulled on a Burton jersey in 1950, from our first goal-scorer Frank Newsome to legendary captain Nobby Hadfield, we will be returning to the original black and amber colours that featured so prominently on our backs in the early days of the Albion.
In 1950, Burton Albion played their first ever game, stepping on to the pitch in a striking half-amber, half-black kit.

From this weekend, the club’s new crest and branding will be implemented across all club channels and digital assets. The installation of new physical assets at Pirelli Stadium has already begun and will continue throughout the coming months.
The Club Shop on Princess Way is still undergoing renovation but will reopen very shortly to stock new training wear, apparel ranges and our 2025/26 kits.
Finally, the club’s website, online ticketing platform and online club shop have all been upgraded as part of the brand evolution with new colours, fonts and crests.
Here’s to 75 years of history and many more to come.
A nod to our roots. A look to our future.
They added in regards to their kit: In 1950, Burton Albion played their first ever game, stepping on to the pitch in a striking half-amber, half-black kit. Seventy-five years on, we honour that iconic moment with a home strip that blends heritage with forward-thinking design.
This is a jersey steeped in symbolism. The amber and black not only mirror the original colours worn on that historic day but are also said to represent mild and bitter – paying tribute to the brewing tradition that runs through the heart of our town.
On the collar and cuffs, you’ll find the Staffordshire knot – untied. It’s a subtle but powerful statement about who we are; proud of where we come from but never bound by convention. As a club, we look outward. We break the mould.
The pattern of the fabric is a nod to the patterns found in old English taverns and pubs. A custom black and gold label featuring the number 75 sits on the hem, and at the chest sits a state-of-the-art TPU badge showcasing our specially designed 75th anniversary crest in gold.
Inside, a subtle Burton-upon-Trent motif is stitched into the label. Etched within the collar; Burton Albion – 1950-2025 – 75th Brewers Anniversary – honouring our journey.
The club’s official partners feature brilliantly in an off-white colour that matches the detailing on the collar and cuffs.
Burton KIA is emblazoned across the front of the jersey, standing out boldly against the amber and black. While Russell Roof Tiles, proudly returning as back-of-shirt partner, also colour matching our off-white 75th anniversary theme.
Our sleeve partners this season will be Home & Trade Building Supplies, their design bright against the black of the left sleeve. We are also proud to welcome Hardy Signs as our back-of-shorts partner.
Every detail of this kit is built with purpose. Made to the highest standard by TAG, it’s not just a kit – it’s a celebration of who we are, where we’ve been and where we are going.
