A Burnley fan causes quite the backlash with a brutal opinion on the Kenilworth Road stadium after a visit to Luton Town on Saturday.
@martintheaker attended the two sides’ Championship clash at the weekend, however has since took to Twitter to give his take and thoughts on the Hatters’ iconic home.
He wrote in a tweet: “Awful view. Dangerous terracing. No room to stand, impossible to sit. Poor stewarding. Horrific sanitary conditions. @LutonTown your ground needs condemning. No idea how you manage to get a safety certificate.🤷♂️ #TwitterClarets”
Ooooft, of course, the ground tends to be the centre of a debate, a talking point in recent years, with many stadiums similar to Luton’s disappearing and are being replace with stadiums that quite frankly look the same and have no uniqueness about it if you like.
We Are Luton Town came across this, and had their say, simply writing: “It’ll be a sad day when the last remanence of English football stadium culture is gone.
“We’ll be left with Lego football stadiums, beer that’s not flat, half-time bruschetta and a padded seat.
“Not for me.”

Meanwhile, Luton chairman David Wilkinson says Brexit, the Covid pandemic and the cost-of-living will not affect the Hatters’ determination to build a new stadium at Power Court.
In January 2019, the club were granted planning permission to build a new 17,500 stadium. However, in October 2021 they received revised proposals that did not include the ground. The Luton Borough Council’s development management committee unanimously approved the revised proposals.
Although the club had hoped that the detailed planning application would be revealed last year, it never came to fruition. Despite a number of delays, Wilkinson reiterated the side’s hopes to move away to Kenilworth Road.
Writing in his programme notes, he said: “There have been comments casting doubt over our intention to build a new stadium.
“Your board are not a faceless bunch of investors.
“They are, to a man, lifelong fans, who have been in place for 15 years as custodians of the club.
“We have the same aims and desires as all other fans, the stadium was a major plank to the 2020 plan and after overcoming many obstacles, everything was in place to complete the project until along came Brexit, the demise of physical retail and the pandemic.
“These caused a rethink and to some extent a redesign of the stadium along with sale of the Newlands Park site.
“However, there is no weakening of our resolve and although slower than we would like, Gary (Sweet, CEO) and Mike (Moran, 2020 Developments Chief Operating Officer) and their team are making continual progress.
“Earthworks and soil testing are progressing and we have committed to UK Power networks to pay to have the substation moved.
“The economy is in a dire state and football finances are a mess, but please be patient and we’ll get there.”
As mentioned, the Burnley fan causes backlash with a brutal opinion on Kenilworth Road after his visit to Luton…
@ashhancock_123: I was there and this is an absolutely ridiculous take, there was tonnes of places to stand/sit, every interaction I had with the stewards was bang on, yeah it’s not the The Ritz but give me that over a soulless premier league ground any day of the week
@Babbs_92: I don’t think football is for you I’m afraid.
@DavidDaverennie: Proper football stadium…. You didn’t have to come!!!
@robbo84_kltfc: The opinions of an entitled Premier League fan. Give me an atmospheric ground steeped in history any day.
@mickkent2: Martin, all fair comments if you want a sanitised experience & condiments with your sauce…..us and the Kenny seem to get along just fine, a last remaining opportunity to live a bit on the wild side. Its #Luton innit.
@HertsGTFC: Proper club doing what it can with what it’s got 🙌
@ChrisCOB_OB: You wanted to sit in an away end? 🫣 Luton away is always on the list, class away day. Loads of character to the place and proper football club.
@DarranMurtagh: Awwww diddums. Forgotten your roots have you?
@Niall_Burke26: Burnley fan. Turf Moor is a bog. Can’t swing a cat under the concourse and half of it’s made of wood.
@AdiSando6: Partnered with a great football feel and atmosphere, Football aesthetics, close to the pitch and players and an experience of a ground that no football fan would ever forget. I’ve already forgotten all of Reading, soulless
@txmhawk: Take those proper old away ends over ones at the soulless bowls in the prem any day of the week 🤷🏻♂️
@TonyMaddams: Proper football stadium, best away day in championship @LutonTown
@John_H_1996: This coming from a Burnley fan. Turd moor is one of the worst away ends I’ve ever been in. 🥴
@ltfc_rhys: If your gonna complain that much about it then don’t come to our stadium. Simple really
@Mattyh35464563: Why did you not leave and go home if upset you that much snowflake
@LAshworth91: I have to strongly disagree here. Its an old ground that is steeped in history & still echoes a great atmosphere. They’ve had a shite 20 yrs & are climbing their way back up with a new ground in sight. If that away end/stewarding was poor we might need to overhaul ours too.
@blackcountrycad: Totally disagree. Was there with wba a few weeks ago. Loved it. It’s what football is all about. Proper stadiums, one to savour, good atmosphere. Too many fans look at the prem and think that is football.
@hattermad1969: Ah bless. Back to your padded seats next season..sorry that you had to suffer so much #groundslikelutons #twatterclarets
@Heather14220711: Great stadium full of great fans, it will be sad day when we move, enjoy the soulless premier league stadiums next season
@GJHeidler: Give me Kenilworth Road in the Premier League ASAP. I want to see fans faces when they have to go through someone’s living room to get to the away stand 👏
@MattyBeer: I was there a couple of weeks back and said the same, how are those seats ever signed off, you can’t sit on them
@sussexmalc: Ref had an awful view too 😀
@BrentfordJS: Give up going to football Martin, you honestly haven’t got a clue
