Bruno Guimaraes hits out at Newcastle fan in now-deleted tweet after defeat to Man City

Bruno Guimaraes hits out at a Newcastle fan account in a now-deleted tweet after the 1-0 defeat to Man City on Saturday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side had quality on show with Eddie Howe’s side struggling to create any clear-cut chances, leading to the Twitter account @NUFC360, which had over 141,000 followers, to ask a question to the club’s fanbase.

Uploading a photo of Bruno alongside Dan Burn, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton, the account said: “Is it too early in the season to start focusing blame onto individual players?

“Was there an overreaction to the loss to Man City?”

It caught the attention of Bruno, who quickly took to remind the fan that Newcastle were in a relegation battle when he joined from Lyon for £30million.

The club are loving the success of securing a top four place to bring UCL football back to St James’ Park for the first time since 2003.

Bruno replied to the fan account: “Is this serious?

“We are [playing] in Champions League football, we lost against maybe one of the best teams in the world and we have a big win [vs Aston Villa] and lost one game!

“Support in the best moment is easy!

“Short, stupid memories you all have. Look what we have done for the team [in] this 1 year and [a] half.”

Quick to offer their apologies to Bruno, the account in question responded: “We are with you Bruno Guimaraes.

“This post was a way to try and focus on the craziness of those trying to find players to blame after two games.

“I’m sorry if this was not expressed in that manner. NUFC360 is behind all of our players.”

Julian Alvarez netted a first-half winner to earn Man City their second victory of the Premier League season, capping off an evening of celebration of last season’s treble at the Etihad with Phil Foden teeing up the Argentine with a clever no-look pass.

Subs: None

Newcastle: Pope (7), Burn (6), Botman (6), Schar (5), Trippier (6), Joelinton (6), Guimaraes (6), Tonali (6), Gordon (5), Isak (6), Almiron (6).

Player of the match: Phil Foden

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden to BBC Sport: “It was the first game at home. We wanted to start in the right direction. The performance was top. I enjoyed being home. The fans were brilliant from minute one and it lifted us over the line.

“I feel I created quite a few chances for Haaland. He was unfortunate not to score. I played more inside. You create more centrally. I’m happy with my performance. I want to keep going in this direction with high standads I set myself.

“Julian, when I see him in training, he’s always got this striker’s instinct. He’s ruthless. I was so happy for him that it went in.

“A player like Kev is so hard to replace. He’s one of the best in the world. When you miss a player like that it’s a very big blow. When we step up we do the job as well.

“We knew the opponent we were facing, how good they are. They’re a fantastic team. They’re very physical and seem to win every second ball. The performance was so high.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to BBC Sport: “There are no words to express my gratitude for the performance we gave. It was really, really good.

“It is the second game but after what we done in the last season, we are still there.

“We spoke about mentality. The reason we won was about our mentality and we proved it again.

“Phil [Foden] is a reality as a player. He can play many positions. He is a real threat. I am really pleased. The way he behaves with everyone. The mentality is always there. That is the most important thing.”

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe to BBC Sport: “Mixed [thoughts]. I thought there were some good bits. We had moments we could hurt them but didn’t have our quality. The second half was much better.

“There was a moment around 60-70 minutes in and I thought we could get control but they are a very good team and played through the press a few times. They strangle you with the ball to a degree. You tire yourself out getting it back and with fatigue the decision making goes slightly.

“There was an element of that but technically we were not where we needed to be. Collectively we were slightly off.

“I was frustrated we didn’t create more. The last pass was missing and we had a couple of shots from range but nothing glaring and that’s the frustration.

“We knew the start would be really difficult. We are confident and believe we can win anywhere but we need to bring our A game and we didn’t have that today.”

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier to TNT Sports: “First half we were sloppy in possession. We tried to go after Manchester City but we need to be more consistent.

“We kept going and trying to find the equaliser but it wasn’t to be. Phil has too much space in the pockets. There’s a lot to work on. This is the level we want to be at,

“With the pace we’ve got there’s always going to be a chance. The lads gave everything as always.

“We didn’t drop our heads at 1-0 down. Some teams come here and lose two, three, four, five. We didn’t concede again.”

Here’s what Twitter users are saying as Bruno Guimaraes hits out at a Newcastle fan account in a now-deleted tweet after defeat to Man City…

@mds1892: @NUFC360 well done you plum. 2 games in and you are asking this. Have you forgot about the 14 years before this. Unfollowed

@Kristofer_Wise: @NUFC360 So now the world thinks Bruno isn’t appreciated. Maybe think before you tweet when you are meant to be a fan page. Don’t cause unrest and just back the team instead 👍

@AndrewB76214171: One fan account doesn’t represent a whole fanbase. Some people need to learn to put things in perspective and remember the ‘steady progress’ blueprint. We lose one game against the best team in Europe and certain people overreact….we don’t need fans like that….

@TheBuffon81: Not sure I understand fans criticising @brunoog97 everyone has off days, quality player who joined us when we were at the bottom of the Prem. Works his socks off.

@Davey_Stu: I think the big takeaway from this should be the passion this man has, how much he believes in his team and wants to defend them. Newcastle have nothing to be ashamed of with that performance, they’re growing into a serious contender.

@steve_d7: Player stands up for his team. Good! If people don’t like it… tough.

@Maxwell713: I’d sooner the people calling @brunoog97 out leave our club than him, absolute Rolls Royce of player we are lucky to have him, arguably best player in the competition last season! Joined in a relegation scrap and became most consistent midfielder we’ve ever had ⚫️⚪️ #NUFC

@SeanRushworth: good on him about time some of our ungrateful entitled fans get told.

@NUFCBrace: Dont blame @brunoog97 at all for that post. Imagine running yourself into the ground for your team for 18 months only for some fans to jump on your back two games into the season after losing against literally the best team in the world 🤦 Get behind the team ffs 🖤🤍 #nufc

@KieranPGB:
OHH BRUNOS FUCKING MAGIC HE WEARS A MAGIC HAT
HE COULD HAVE SIGNED FOR ARSENAL
BUT HE SAID NO FUCK THAT
HE WANTS TO PLAY FOR EDDIE IN THE FAMOUS BLACK&WHITE
AND WHEN WE WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE
WELL SING THIS SONG ALL NIGHT 🎶 #nufc
We’re all with you @brunoog97 ⚫️⚪️

@linzi1989: Dear @brunoog97 Please pay no attention to the idiots on this app. They don’t represent the fans that cheer your name in St James’ week in, week out. They don’t represent the thousands of fans who sing your song with pride, who still can’t believe you play for us. We ❤️ you.

@RobertsLeftPeg: Actually fuming at this. I’m 33, not since I was 14 yrs old have I ever felt close to being as proud as I am today of my club thanks to @brunoog97 & the lads. How the fuck do some of our “fans” have the cheek to criticise? They see this utter shite you know. Embarrassing. #NUFC
