Bradford City are reportedly to plead their case to a FA charge as video footage emerges of an incident during the AFC Wimbledon game.
Both clubs are alleged to have failed to ensure their players “did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way” on the 92nd minute of last weekend’s League Two fixture.
It came after a tackle by Bradford’s Richie Smallwood, which led to players from both sides in a melee in added time, with yellow cards shown to Smallwood and Andy Cook, along with Wimbledon’s Myles Hippolyte and Joe Lewis.
The Bantams said in their match report: “With the game drawing to a close, both sides felt frustrated, and tensions boiled over. Halliday and Hippolyte clashed, causing both teams to lash out at each other and multiple yellow cards given to both teams. It would be the final major action of the game, and the game would finish in a stalemate.”
Wimbledon written in theirs: “Things became heated in time added on when Smallwood and Hippolyte clashed and the referee attempted to defuse the situation by showing both the yellow card.”

A spokesperson for the Football Association said: “Bradford City and AFC Wimbledon have been charged following a mass confrontation at their EFL League Two match on Saturday, 21 September.
“It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 91st minute.
“Bradford City and AFC Wimbledon have until Thursday, 26 September, to provide their respective responses.”
Bradford’s Graham Alexander said, per Telegraph & Argus: “We know there are conditions that you can’t go round the referee. But I don’t think we actually did that.
“Richie made a tackle that I don’t think was deemed a foul. But everyone reacted from their side and our players got round it.
“It’s a thing that has always happened in contact sport, not just football but rugby, the lot.
“We understand if there’s something there where we have to do better then will try.
“It was a flashpoint. Their players did rush in on Richie and Brad (Halliday) who were right there.
“I think there was maybe four or five players of theirs and then Richie and Brad’s team-mates got round to it.
“If you look at it closely, everyone is pulling people away.
“There are 18-19 players but maybe (only) two or three pushing each other. The others are trying to break it up.
“It’s not a good look for football and we understand that. But I don’t think any of our individuals did anything particularly wrong.
“We’ll have to look into it and deal with it accordingly.”
Here’s how fans reacted with Bradford expected to plead case to an FA charge as video footage emerges of the incident during the game against Wimbledon…
@LouCK2012: READ IT VERY CAREFULLY: we failed to ensure our players did not behave in an improper or provocative way – eh? Behave – if you can’t phrase the charge correctly ….
@John_Brammer: Why didn’t the ref pull the Wimbledon captain after their 12th pullback in the game? The ref had a lack of control for the whole 90 mins. Added to that the many clear penalties not given this season, balls over the line, how much more as a club do we have to put up with from you.
@SHD_Backup: The only person who should be charged is the referee, he lost total control.
@AngelDONSo: We MAY have our hands full with something else at the moment @FA have a look at the news
@yellowandblue88: Read the room FA.
@McDermottJulian: Your referee lost total control of the game, I hope you had an assessor at the game to have seen it.
@JoshBailey1410: Not quite sure on your wording there? Might want to rethink the double negative
@AlasdairHibberd: Pretty sure it was the ref who had no control of the game – obviously you’re looking into that too?
@leewillett88: Still waiting for an apology for the “not in the wider interests” thing. Anyway, how can we be charged if your ‘independent’ commission didn’t think we should exist?
@declanholmes97: Literally antagonised by your referee, didn’t do his job beforehand to ensure it wouldn’t get to that point 🤐 pathetic
@PargeyBCAFC: bellends
@DartmouthDerek: Could this not wait while we sort out our stadium?
@_paul1978: The referee lost the game from the word go and this is the result. Persistent fouling from
Wimbledon in the first half, yet the first player booked was a Bradford player after 80 mins. Have a word!!!
@leestelfox: CN you investigate your own behaviour please! Has this football club not been through enough through your fault?!
@Adaram2408: Bunch of corrupt cunts! Fuck the FA!!!
@duey23: Oh FFS. What a nebulous wording of…. something. We are still waiting for your apology about the whole “Not in the wider interest” bollocks. Give it a rest, we have a pitch we’re trying to deal with.
@peach_ian: Really? Joe Lewis and their 19 had a bit of a dance holding each others shirts and hippo was a bit upset about a bad tackle that I believe also saw him booked, but really, nothing to see here for Christ sake, it wasn’t even worthy of a mention, their 19 didn’t even get booked ffs
@hrrywatson: Address the quality of refereeing before asking professional footballers to control their behaviour. Maybe better refereeing will lead to more control and better behaviour…
@hemsworth_steve: What a load is bull. The referee and officials caused the problem, they missed far to many infringements, throw ins no where near where the ball went out, kicking the ball away, pulling of shirts, 2 penalties and endless time wasting.
@KS_250204: Was the footage seen by the FA? Smallwood attempts to tackle Hippos neck…. How is that our fault you bunch of cunts
Surely @FAspokesperson should be countercharged with violating the laws of grammar. pic.twitter.com/jDKSGPgIQC
