Bradford (Park Avenue) player scores from halfway line before getting sent off at full time

Bradford (Park Avenue) player Jamie Spencer scores from halfway line before getting sent off at full time following an incident.

It was a night of twists and turns in Scarborough as the West Yorkshire outfit blew a two-goal lead at late on in National League North on Tuesday night, finishing in a 2-2 draw.

Spencer was red carded after an incident at the final whistle, however, the first talking point came just six minutes in as he netted a belter from way out, catching the keeper off guard.

Winning a 50-50 just inside his own half, Spencer ran a few yards before hitting the ball similar to David Beckham’s strike against Wimbledon in 1996, and hit the back of the net, leaving the Scarborough keeper Joe Cracknell red faced.

Four minutes later, the away side almost doubled their lead, but Harrison Hopper’s chip was flicked over the bar by Cracknell.

Boro were penned back into defence, but almost got back level following a right-wing corner from Ryan Watson, when Kieran Weledji’s downwards header was tipped round the post by Bradford (Park Avenue) keeper George Sykes-Kenworthy.

Scarborough went two down five minutes into the second half with another superb goal, a right-wing corner from Spencer falling to Brooks, taking a touch before placing his shot into the bottom right corner of the net. Soon after, another Brooks effort was saved by Cracknell as Bradford (Park Avenue) continued to attack the game.

Bradford almost added a third goal from a corner, the ball bouncing off the back post following a scramble in the Scarborough box. Simon Richman then saw a shot charged down by Kieran Glynn, and Brooks sent a long-range shot flashing past the left-hand post.

With 10 minutes remaining, the hosts suddenly began to create chances, and Michael Coulson headed wide from a Watson free kick, then Ash Jackson sent a free kick into the box, and Gooda turned and fired in a shot which was blocked.

A Gooda header from another Watson free kick was deflected out for a corner on the 86th minute, and Watson sent over the corner. The ball was headed out towards Dom Tear, who produced a stunning volley into the top left corner to reduce the visitors’ lead to 2-1.

Bradford’s Adam Nowakowski fired just wide, before Boro grabbed a dramatic last minute equaliser, when a Watson shot was blocked, then Tear’s strike from the rebound was deflected out for a corner, with Gooda subsequently directing his header goalwards, but his effort was saved on the goal-line, only for Dom Tear to hit the loose ball past the stunned defenders to send the fans wild.

The drama after the final whistle saw a number of players having a scuffle and the referee brandished a red card to Bradford’s Jamie Spencer.
