Bottles and flares were thrown as riot police deal with fan violence after the Tottenham v Marseille game on Wednesday night.
There were unsavoury scenes come the full-time of Tottenham’s Champions League win against Marseille with fans seen clashing in the stands.
Spurs picked up a 2-0 victory against the French side, however it was marred by the scenes in the stands between both sets of supporters with stewards and riot police intervening.

Sam Matterface said on commentary for talkSPORT during the final moments of the match: “Look at the Marseille fans on the far side, they’re trying to get at the Tottenham fans.
“They’re throwing things at the Tottenham fans and they’re charging towards the netting of segregation.
“Unseemly scenes. There’s a hoard of stewards and riot police getting involved now as bottles are thrown from either side of the divide.
“That is absolutely a disgraceful way to end the match… police are trying to form a line between the two sets of fans to stop missiles being thrown between the two sets of supporters.
“There’s been a flare-up and the Marseille fans are being driven further away.
“I don’t know what started it because we weren’t privy to that but it escalated very quickly.”

After the match finished, talkSPORT host Adrian Durham added: “There are still things, it looked like bottles being thrown mainly from the Marseille fans towards the Spurs fans.
“Occasionally something will be thrown back in anger by the Spurs fans but there’s little doubt from what we’ve seen towards the end of the game that the Marseille fans have been the aggressors.
“They were the ones that went to the cordon approaching and confronting the Spurs fans and then throwing various missiles towards them.
“Towards the end of the game it was very, very ugly and I’m sure there will be repercussions.
“Spurs fans mainly had arms outstretched not saying ‘come on, let’s have a go’ but ‘what the hell is going on?’”
The situation then appeared to calm down, however, further trouble in the stands was spotted a few minutes later.

Matterface added: “There are further problems, a flare has been dropped or tossed into the Spurs side of that end away to our left-hand side, there’s smoke billowing seats and stewards are rushing in to move people away from some sort of incendiary device. They’ve dealt with that now.
“This is a really devastating evening for a return to Champions League football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”
It had earlier appeared like it would be a good natured affair when the visiting fans welcomed former player Joey Barton and his son into the stands.
They began singing when he entered a pub and the Bristol Rovers manager appeared humbled when it continued in the stadium.
Both clubs could now face a UEFA charge for failing to control the crowd.

Richarlison inspired Spurs with two headed goals; Chancel Mbemba was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity just after half-time for wiping out Heung-Min Son; Spurs face Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

Sky Sports’ Lewis Jones:
In times of trouble and frustration it is usually Harry Kane that gets Tottenham out of a sticky situation. He wasn’t needed on this occasion as Tottenham now have another world-class finisher that only needs a moment to make a difference in a game. It was Richarlison riding to Tottenham’s rescue here as they ground out a rather ugly win.
One of Spurs’ problems in trying to reach the next level with Kane at the forefront has been the tough task of convincing a central striker of sufficient talent to make the move and potentially play as Kane’s understudy. This is why Richarlison is such a savvy signing from Antonio Conte. They now have a Kane understudy, who on his day isn’t too far away from the England star’s ability, but the beauty of Richarlison is that such is his flexibility and desire he can play anywhere across the front-line and is darn good at it too. There is a child-like joy in the way Richarlison plays football, especially in a competition he is obviously so keen to make his mark on.
“I’m happy for Richarlison,” said Conte.
“He deserved to have a night like this. I remember him telling me when he signed he wanted to listen to the Champions League music and play in this competition. Those were important words from him.”
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte:
“I tried also to create difficulties with the substitutions because we forced a lot to be really, really offensive to have Deki [Dejan Kulusevski] and the three strikers with Perisic one v one,” he said after the game.
“Then I changed the two central defenders with fresh central defenders to push on one side with Japhet and Ben Davies on the other. Then at the end we got three points and very important for us. To start this competition in the best possible way is really important.
“I am a bit worried because we are going to play against City in only two (sic) days and it is not easy because I think some players need to rest and to recover.
“Now we have to manage very well the big decisions for the game against City. I trust in my players and for sure we have to make rotation because it would be impossible to play with the same players on Saturday and then also on Tuesday. It will be impossible. Not easy against City, for sure.”
Social media users gave their reaction to videos of bottles and flares thrown as riot police deal with fan violence after the Tottenham v Marseille match on Wednesday…
@Cesc_Pistol: Joey Barton is always involved
@DavidH666WHU: Spurs fans backing off pretty quickly until police arrive to make it safer for them to continue mouthing off
😂👍
@JoshuaHirst13: I swear that’s just the norm for Ligue 1 games/teams. Their fans are something else when it comes to causing trouble
@DP_1990_: Them spurs fans acting hard behind the stewards 😂 if they moved, they’d have done 100m quicker than Usain Bolt. Can guarantee that they won’t be in Marseille either
@di1cox: Be a good laugh if Joey got arrested mind.
@AnthonySJ: Bet the police were only filming the English fans. If that’d been abroad, foreign police would’ve asked questions with their batons against English fans.
@CampoCFC: They are going to get an absolute hiding out there.
@davskicross: Mental how quick the old bill would be weighing away supporters in if it was 2 English sides in the FA Cup say. To having no gads in the ground for European side
@georgewatkins6: Spurs fans running off 😂😂 if they take that attitude to France they’ll be in big trouble
@KierenFlanagan: Fuck going Marseille away, put your life in your hands
@mtkigz1: When it comes to physical abuse and violence, Marseille fans are some of the worst across Europe…
@S1mge3_THFC: The return leg should be behind closed doors. UEFA needs to start imposing a zero tolerance rule on stuff like this both inside and outside of stadia. European nations all think the UK has a hooligan problem but it’s teams with ultras like this that are the real hooligans.
@flanneryj68: They threw a lit missile into our section as well, utter scum bags, took the riot police ages as usual
