Bolton fans took to cheekily taunt Huddersfield after stoppage-time goals for the Trotters dents the Terriers’ play-off hopes.
Ibrahim Cissoko came off the bench and silenced the away end with Bolton’s equaliser in the 11th minute of stoppage time.
It looked at though the 10-man hosts were unlikely to spark a comeback, 3-1 down after 66 minutes, Jordi Osei-Tutu received a red card 13 minutes before that when he fouled David Kasumu, who netted twice in the game (52′, 66′).
Bolton, who had opened the scoring through Eoin Toal 14 minutes in, started their comeback when Johnny Kenny got his side’s second. goal 77 minutes in, then came Cissoko, with a superb left-foot spark wild celebrations not just on the pitch, but the staff and subs bench and the fans in the stands on 101 minutes.

The result sees Bolton sitting 3rd with 74 points from 44 games played, unable to reach 2nd place Cardiff, who won promotion after Exeter’s keeper scored an equaliser against 5th place Stockport. More on that HERE. Huddersfield once again bottle it in stoppage time, now in 9th with 64 points from 44 games played an dare 4 points from the playoff places.
Bolton issued a club statement after the game: “One of our players received racist abuse on social media during today’s match against Huddersfield Town. This hateful behaviour is disgusting and unacceptable.
“Our player has the full backing of this football club. No player should leave the field and face racist abuse on a phone screen.
“We have reported the incident to the relevant authorities and to the social media platform involved. Those responsible must face consequences. Social media companies hold the data required to identify the accounts behind this abuse and authorities possess the powers required to act. Stronger action is overdue.
“Bolton Wanderers Football Club rejects racism and all forms of discrimination. We stand with our player and we will continue to challenge racism wherever it appears.”
Seriously, though. How did he manage put it in from that angle?
I honestly can’t get my head around how precise it was and genuinely would have been easier for him to miss.

Bolton boss Steven Schumacher’s said, per Bolton Live: “It’s never boring, always eventful.
“We always make life hard for ourselves. We play nice footy sometimes, we make mistakes too often, but what no-one can angle against our team is that they don’t try.
“This season has been incredible, they never give up. The amount of late goals that we score is not a coincidence, I say it all the time, fitness levels, spirit, togetherness, and then when you’ve got quality in the squad, you’ve always got a chance.
“I’m delighted that we managed to get a result from a game I felt we deserved to get a result from.
On the red card decision, Schumacher said: “Well, if the referee is going to give it as a foul, then he probably hasn’t got an option, but I’m not sure it’s a foul. I think Jordi makes contact with him on the penalty spot, and the lad falls five or six yards further forward.
“I don’t think he’s getting there, I don’t think he’s getting to the ball, so I’ll have to watch it back on a TV angle, because that’ll make it a bit clearer, but my initial reaction I thought was a little bit harsh.”
On feeling his side should have been further ahead: “I was thinking on the touchline: ‘This is a game that’s got away from us,’ because we should have been out of sight again.
“We played really well in the first half, we scored the goal, got ourselves ahead, should have scored more, we should have done better on the turnover, chances that we had on the transition moments, we were a bit scruffy.
“That’s what we said at half-time, we just didn’t play the pass in the right area, therefore we didn’t get enough.
“But then we still had two big chances, Sam Dalby had two chances that did in the form he has been in you would expect him to tuck away.
“And I think we had 14 shots in the first half, compared to their two, so we were well on top, and we should have been ahead by more than one. And then in the second half we had the biggest chance before they equalised when Sam goes through again, and we don’t score.
“And then what I’m saying about getting away from us, is that we concede a scruffy goal from a set-piece, it bounces around, could have gone anywhere, it fell to them.
“And then the second goal is a lack of concentration, we went off-script and didn’t press the way we needed to press, and that left a bit of space for them to get in down the sides.
“The red card comes along, and then the third goal, we should clear it better, George Johnston has made a mistake, it goes under his foot, it takes a big deflection and you think: ‘Oh no, it’s game over!” But as we’ve proved so many times, it’s never over until it’s over. Fair play to them.”
On if he had ever experienced a season with so much late drama: “I don’t think so, not for numbers, no. The team that we won the league with, Plymouth Argyle, was a similar attitude.
“I think you need that if you want to get promoted. Never say die, always keep going until the end, trying to show quality and energy, we had that down there, we’re certainly trying to build that here.
“The players have shown time and time again that they don’t give up, and when you’ve got players like Johnny Kenny, Amario, Ibs, who scored the equaliser today, who have got that moment of magic in them, you’ve always got a chance.”
Huddersfield interim head coach Jon Stead said to HTTV, per Examiner Live: “Angry. Yes there’s been moments of frustration, there’s been elements that we’ve spoken about that we need to get better at, mainly around the game management, mainly around the pressure moments in games, we need to stand up to that, and be accountable and be resilient. It creeps towards anger today, because we need to be coming out of that game winning, we need to win that football match.
“Some of our play again was exceptional. The way we cut open a very, very good team, even before ten men, even in the first half after we’ve gone a goal down was fantastic, so the stuff is getting across to them.
“I think we’re showing good individual performances, we’re showing good collective moments with and without the ball, but the little bits that don’t necessarily happen on the training pitch are costing us, and I’m sure that will be addressed. It needs addressing weeks ago, and to be a top team, that needs to be better, it needs to be put right.
“It’s quite remarkable to come off another game having the same scenario, but we as staff, we’ll always take accountability, and the players will as well. It’s a tough one for everybody to stomach, especially the lads, they’ve got to stomach that, but it’s harder for the fans stood in that crowd, who were fantastic from start to finish.
“It needs to be addressed, because you cannot be a winning team, you cannot go to the levels that you want to get to if you don’t do that side of the game, no matter how good you are in terms of your play. It needs to be addressed, and I’m sure it will.”
Here’s the social media reaction after seeing Bolton fans taunt Huddersfield as stoppage-time goals dents Terriers’ play-off hopes…
@m2whogivesafuk: was there anyone who wasnt expecting that bolton goal though
@RoughanSZN: When are town fans gonna realise the added time is a minimum of 8 minutes that was added on, not a maximum. Put it on the players for not defending properly after ninety minutes for the THIRD GAME IN A ROW rather than the refs doing something right for the first time #htafc
@Dave_w08: Once again been done by the officials, where on earth do you get 8 mins from for a start.. then to add another 3 minutes… 🤯simply SHAFTED AGAIN! 😡 We had a sub in added time that’s 1min there lad went down for 30 seconds.. utter garbage @FA_PGMOL sick of football 😤 #htafc
@JonesLee1231977: That’s 6 points dropped in the last 3 matches because we can’t see out the last seconds of a game. Get a new defense coach . That summarizes the season – not good enough. 💔 #htafc
@DanielMRobertsx: Its beautiful when a team time waste, tine waste and time waste some more only to choke in the 11th minute of stoppage time
@x_JustMe_xxx: This actually hurts… Got a penalty and went against 10 men!! If only we didn’t switch off right at the very end again!! 3 in a row!! Oh well!! we weren’t ready for play offs, just deserved a win #htafc
@MRXCII: Struggling to knock them again, especially on the second-half showing, but I cannot wait for this season to be done. I need a break!
@Terrier10uk:
3 times in a week.
Twice in 90+11.
Absolutely Criminal.
Not many teams can concede 101st-minute equalisers for 2 weekends in a row, but Huddersfield Town have managed it… https://t.co/0MVZpeIdLs pic.twitter.com/R6q19CUDGJ
