Bodo/Glimt stun Man City with 3-1 win; Rodri sent off after two yellow cards in 54 seconds

Bodo/Glimt managed to stun Man City with a 3-1 win; the game also saw Rodri sent off after two yellow cards in 54 seconds.

The Norwegian hosts claimed their first ever win in the Champions League, Kasper Høgh scoring twice in quick succession, the 22 minute with a header, then a curled finish straight after.

City missed a number of chances, Bodo/Glimt had so many chances to make it three, Erling Haaland could be seen fuming, Bodo/Glimt also had goals disallowed for offside, Jens Petter Hauge then made it 3-0 on 58 minutes.

Rayan Cherki got one back for City on 60 minutes, Rodri received two yellows in quick succession, the first for a trip on Hakon Evjen, then a second yellow for pulling back the defender.

Bodo/Glimt again had a goal disallowed, another offside decision, and held on for a huge win, a night they won’t forget.

Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Sport after his side’s 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt:

“We arrive in some departments without important players and those that give the consistency to the team and they’re a little bit fragile than they were last season in certain periods, but how they fought 10 v 11 and a lot of players making the step up… We have to change the dynamic quickly before the next game against Wolves and then the last game against Galatasaray. We’re hoping that the players can come back step by step.

“We have to come back to the feeling that the results since 2025 have not been good – in terms of the Premier League, and now today – but we move forward to Wolves and Galatasaray. We see what happens. Today was an incredible opportunity for us.

“Everything is – the feeling that it’s going wrong, it’s going against in many details – you have to try to change it.

“We were flat for much of the match today. What you have with Savinho or Jeremy [Doku] are our wingers proper, in other departments we have nine important players that give us a bit more consistency that we have. I don’t have the feeling that today the team was not there, but the organisation, the 4-4-2, they crossed incredibly inside, but to go outside, we don’t have players to make 1v1s or make movements in behind – and that’s why we struggled a little bit.

“But in general, it’s a traditional team like most of the teams in northern Europe they are really good so congratulations to them.”

Guardiola told TNT Sports: “We started off pretty well in many things and we found the spaces.

“The players were incredibly committed, especially 10 against 11 with how they fought.

“But everything is against [us]. For the opposition to score two goals in two minutes, it makes things more difficult.

“We bounced back with the 3-1, but after that it was more difficult, with the red card, to get back.

“They didn’t surprise me. They played the semi-final of the Europa League last season. So they’re a top team.

“They played really, really good. It’s not about that [adapting to Bodo/Glimt’s style]. When you concede two goals so quick, it’s more difficult.”

On Rodri: “It’s soft, the second one. But it’s what it is. He doesn’t play the next game and we move forward.”

Erling Haaland told TNT Sports: “We did our best, but there’s something that’s missing, obviously.

“I take full responsibility, together with Rodri, Tijjani [Reijnders]; us experienced players.

“I don’t want to blame anyone, but we need to take more responsibility, because in the end it’s not good enough.

“We’re Manchester City. We can’t go around and not win games. It can’t be like this.

“I don’t have the answers. I take full responsibility for not being able to score the goals I should do.

“I apologise to everyone; every single Manchester City supporter and every single supporter that travelled today.

“In the end, it’s embarrassing. Bodo, they played some incredible football, and in the end, it’s deserved.

“Honestly, I don’t know what to say, because I don’t have the answers. What I can say is sorry.

“I don’t want to speak about how I feel or whatever. I do my best whenever I’m on the pitch.

“I’m on the pitch quite often because we play a ridiculous amount of games.

“I try to do my best. That’s my job. I [will] try to get ready for the next game, because another game is in four days. We have to try and recover again.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Bodo/Glimt stun Man City with a 3-1 win; Rodri was sent off after two yellow cards in 54 seconds…

@brianmcfc2: This was absolutely Disgraceful Once again we were not good enough Just when you think couldn’t get any worst It get worst And we will lose on saturday Against wolves , The way we are Playing Tings need to change And quick Because it’s just not good enough At the min

@kingjameshowe:
Two Absolute Awful Results
No Desire On The Ball
No Desire To Create Chances
No Desire To Look Like a Winning Team
The Players should give the fans their money back those performances were diabolical

@AdamClatworthy: Give Pep another 200million I’m sure he’ll be okay then. 🤣🤣

@DMJAG: Ive been frustrated watching City for some time nowthis football we play at times is unfathomable go forward looking good then for no reason stop and go back and this is happening all the time what the hell is going on. We hardly shoot at goal lots of issues 🙄 so Pep tell us

@exitzoostation: Pep Guardiola is a finished manager & football has passed him by Many people said that about Jose Mourinho when he lost to Bodo Glimt so I expect the same level of criticism for Pep Unless there is 1 rule for 1 & a different rule for the others

@ryanmcfc85: Blame injuries and the ref 🤦‍♂️ Your team selections and game management are fucking shit. So blind to what’s going on in the game. Very worrying 🙃

@CtidBoy: Right then get this off my chest. For what Pep has done for the club ‘deserves’ to be given the chance to rebuild a new team – which is whats happening. For all the great moments over the last ten years we owe him that. Lets get behind Pep & the team & give him ‘all’ support 🩵

@Hampson84Phil: It wasn’t soft pep… It was a sending off!!!!

@lizblue57: You’d have wanted their player off if the tables were turned stop making pathetic excuses he fooked up end ov
