Blackpool fans urge club to sack player

Blackpool fans urge the League One club to sack a player of theirs for getting sent off after 55 seconds in Tuesday night’s game.

The Tangerines took on Charlton Athletic, however defender James Husband was adjudged by the referee to have taken down Addicks new signing Omar Bogle.

This was the second time this season that the player has been given marching orders after getting sent off in the club’s 3-2 defeat to Lincoln City, the second league game of the 2020/21 campaign.

Blackpool spent the entirety of the last night’s game with just 10-men, and went on to lose 1-0 to Charlton, who themselves went a man down just before half time.

Charlton defender Ben Purrington was shown a second yellow card for a cynical foul on dangerous winger CJ Hamilton in the 39th minute.

Lee Bowyer’s side were controversially denied an opener on the 56th minute when Ryan Inniss’ stooping header found the net but the goal was disallowed after lengthy deliberation with officials, Bogle being ruled to have infringed on the line.

However the Addicks finally broke the deadlock as Chuks Aneke nodded in to put Charlton 11th in the League One table, and send Blackpool to 23rd, the relegation zone.

Lee Bowyer said after the game: “We made hard work of it. They went down to 10 men early. I’d rather him go through, score and play 11v11, it might have been a much better game.

“I was a bit disappointed we didn’t take advantage of that, we didn’t move the ball. We didn’t really hurt them when they went down to 10. The most important thing on a Tuesday night, when you come to places like Blackpool, the most important thing is three points.

“I’ve said to them that we are much better than we showed tonight. We showed some good bits here and there, what we can do and what we are capable of doing but we didn’t show it enough tonight. We will get better, we made a few changes, people gelling into the squad, so we will get better.”

Bowyer felt the yellow card was “soft” and added: “So many decisions tonight where there was a lot of guessing going on.”

He was pleased with Charlton’s winner. He said: “I thought it was a great goal. Young Ian was great when he came on. He showed he’s got some quality, great delivery Alife and a good header. I’m pleased for Chuks because he’s really starting to come alive in that strikers role.”

Blackpool manager Neil Critchley said to the media:

“I thought it was an evenly-contested game but the plans went out of the window in the first minute.

“There was hardly a chance and our keeper had nothing to do but we were punished by one moment.

“The effort and competitive spirit was first class but it’s difficult to take when we deserved a draw.

“We could have done better when we had the ball, particularly when they went down to 10 men.

“But the biggest frustration was conceding the late goal and if we don’t defend well enough for 90 minutes then that will happen.

“Charlton are a good team and it’s just not going for us at the moment.

“Lots of aspects of the performance were very good but we need to be better in isolated moments.

“We just have to stick together, believe in what we’re doing, and I’m sure the results will turn.”

Bowyer said on Chuks’ goal: “It was a great winner. Ian showed his quality with a great delivery and I’m pleased for Aneke as he is starting to come alive.

“We made hard work of it; I’d rather Bogle had ran through and scored and played 11 against 11 because it would have been a much better game.

“I was a bit disappointed we didn’t take advantage as we didn’t move the ball quick as we should have. We’re a lot better than what we showed.

“But the most important thing is the three points at a place like Blackpool but we will get better.

“We were brave to go three on three in defence and hurt them with our wing-backs.

“They will be up and around the top six for sure and a win at Blackpool is a great result.”
