Birmingham launch investigation into racist abuse aimed towards Troy Deeney at full time

Birmingham City launch an investigation into a racist abuse incident aimed towards Troy Deeney at full time of Tuesday night’s game.

The 35 year old Blues captain was brought as a second half sub in the Champioship clash at St Andrew’s. Cardiff bagged all three points thanks to goals from Perry Ng and ex-Aston Villa player Callum Robinson.

But while Deeney made his way off the field after the final whistle, he was racially abused by someone in the home section of the Gil Merrick lower.

Deeney and a number of Blues supporters heard the incident and reported it to stewards.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Birmingham City has issued the following statement.

After the full-time whistle of Tuesday night’s Sky Bet Championship match against Cardiff City, Troy Deeney and a number of supporters have reported hearing the 34-year-old subjected to racist abuse.

The Club Captain and those inside St. Andrew’s identified this as coming from the home section of the Gil Merrick lower when players were leaving the field of play towards the players’ tunnel.

This incident has been referred to the relevant authorities and the Club will assist in their investigation.

Blues gives its full support to Troy and is appalled and saddened that yet again, one of our players is not safe from discrimination on the football pitch.

There is no room for racism in the game.

No further comment will be made at this time.

Troy Deeney showed class by throwing his shirt to a young supporter wanting his autograph, clearly left stunned as she didn’t expected to get such a gift.

This s how Twitter users reacted as Birmingham launch an investigation into racist abuse aimed towards Troy Deeney at full time…

@NorthBSHA: God help him if his name gets released

@Kieranbcfc2: Awful, lifetime ban require immediately.

@jackstringer19: A new low for us. The one thing I wouldn’t expect from our fans, especially to one of our own. Shameful.

@BluesAnalytics_: And just when you thought the result from last night was bad enough, this is even more galling. If you can’t watch Blues without the temptation to racially abuse our own players (or any players for that matter) then please, fuck off somewhere else 👍 #bcfc

@MattBrotheridge: Unacceptable and disgraceful. All we stand for in our history and fan base and some prick racially abuses his own club captain who wears the crest on his leg. Some fractions of our modern fan base are pathetic and just aren’t blues #bcfc

@RyanDeeney2194: What a fucking embarrassment this is. Racial abuse in itself isn’t on. But to your own player?! Na. Fuck off. Well done to those that reported it.

@Nev_77_: Fucking embarrassing, we made such a big message of support for Etheridge only for some small section of twats to do the exact same. And if that’s not bad enough, doing it to one of our own. No room for it, ban them. No fan of my club

@DanRoe1997: If that was you…. On behalf of all BCFC Fans…. Get the fuck out of our club…. An never ever come back. We hate our owners…. But we hate racists even more. #NoRoomforRacism #BSHLOUT #bcfc

@MarkWatson1875: For all the ups & downs on the pitch, the farce of our ownership, the antics of the past & Grealish slaps of the present. One thing I’ve always said is that you’ll NEVER hear racist comments from our fans. It was a low bar to begin with but this really is the lowest we’ve sank

@Martin_Bolton39: From one of our own fans, unbelievable. Whoever it is will be found and dealt with by the club and properly dealt with by other true supporters, absolute scumbag. #BCFC #kro

@Moreland27: Stood in the Titlon with the old man last night- felt this isn’t the club i fell in love with when he first took me as a kid – No pride, no passion, zero atmosphere and an apathetic acceptance of this as the ‘norm’.If this is true it really underlines how far weve fallen 🙁 #bcfc

@BrennanAyres02: Find him. Ban him. Release his name.

@DuffersKRO: I’m reminded of a whole group of fans chanting Tommy Robinson’s name at Derby Station about 4 years ago. And a couple of them wore leather caps. And to think they honestly attach themselves to the Zulu name… I’m close to being done with this club.

@R_1875: I’m so close to being done with this club 😔 rotten

@GarringtonMiles: All time low bloody hell

@PeterBone1: Dear Birmingham City. I have still had no response from you to the tweet I sent you last Saturday about a coin-throwing incident at last Friday’s game, in which my friend was hit on the head by a coin thrown from the top tier of the GM Stand. Are you just ignoring it?

@mikeivory91: Absolutely disgraceful. Coming from one of our ‘fans’ aswell.

@RailwayEnd: Find them, ban them, prosecute them.

@PSnake80: From the home section 🤦 Absolute disgrace

@DannyGodwood: Not good, very unlike blues. We are way way better then that 👎🏻

@MattyBrennan: Lifetime ban and prosecuted. We won’t stand for that. If you see it, call it out. #bcfc

@PadCelBlu: We’ve officially hit rock bottom. What a miserable football club we are at the moment. Nothing but bad news.

@NickMorrisBCFC: Get these/this person out of our club disgusting behaviour 🤬

@jamie87167577: What a disgrace, coming from one of our fans?? What a shame players have to deal with this.

@Shay98912393: Lifetime ban immediately… unacceptable, people like this don’t deserve to be going to games.

@Baggieboy75Mike: I bet they were cheering him after friday night though! No place for this in football or society! Ban the lot of them for life at ANY ground!

@Adamsbcfc: Unacceptable if this is true. Permenant ban hopefully if they find out who

@KDF1990KDF: As paying fans we can call footballers lazy, not interested, want them gone/benched, but in no uncertain terms shall the colour of their skin be brought up! Name and shame and lifetime ban!

@jonahjones1983: From the club that bought you “celebrating a fan running on the pitch to punch a player” comes an all new low, racist abuse aimed at one of their own players. Just hurry up and go out of existence for the sake of all normal folk.

@KELSEARAVENHILL: Our own fans aswell 🤢🤢 absolute tramps
