Birmingham City confirm signing of Barcelona centre-forward

Birmingham City have managed to confirm the signing of a Barcelona centre-forward, leaving many supporters very intrigued online.

The Blues have signed a a former La Liga youngster in Leo Dos Reis Muniz on what looks to be a permanent transfer deal are impressing with the Championship side’s sister club Cornella.

It was expected that the 18 year old Catalan-born striker was set to stay out on loan with Cornella until the summer of 2021 which is when the deal was due to expire, however, now the West Midlands outfit have now secured his signature.

The 18-year-old is expected to join up with the U23’s side, before then hoping to shine and break through into the first team, announcing the move on Sunday afternoon via his social media pages.

The frontman launched his footballing career at the age of 11, joining Cornella for the 2012/13 campaign. From 2014 to early 2020, the Spaniard became a regular in the Barcelona youth set-up after being scouted for their indoor futsal squad.

Reis, who is 6ft tall, opted to remain at Cornella for three seasons until 2014/15, when Barcelona came calling again.

For Barcelona, he impressed most of last season, leading the scoring for the Cadet A’s with 10 goals and also bagged a hat-trick against Damm in November 2019.

The youngster joined back at his boyhood club in January 2020 on loan and has been there since.

The Blues have taken in a fair few players from Cornella – with earlier in the season signing up Oriol Soldevila who was also previously part of Barcelona’s academy setup.

They have also sent Agus Medina and Ivan Guzman back on loan to the Spanish Segunda side.

Former Cornella coach Xavi Calm was with St Andrew’s for most of last season, so the links between the two clubs are strong.

Barca only just scraped through the Copa Del Rey recently when they took on Cornella, with 2 goals in extra time from Dembele and ex-Middlesbrough player Braithwaite. 21 year old goalkeeper Ramon Juan also saved two penalties from Pjanic and Dembele.

In other Birmingham transfer news, Birmingham City could be set for a windfall with their former academy star Demarai Gray potentially signing for Leicester City’s Premier League rivals Crystal Palace are interested.

The winger has been a Foxes player since January 2016 when he left the St Andrew’s for a side who were about to be crowned Premier League champions, however more disappointing for Gray in recent seasons, manager Brendan Rodgers hasn’t played him as often as the player would like and is set to be parting ways.

Palace are hoping to strike a deal by the end of the transfer window with the Eagles ahead of rivals Southampton, as they prepare for an overhaul of their squad in the summer which will likely mean the departure of winger and former Birmingham loanee Andros Townsend.

Karanka’s side currently sit 19th in the Championship table, taking a total of 26 points from 25 games – leaving them just six points above the drop zone.
