Birmingham City cause outrage yet again, this time by closing two of their stands at St Andrew’s Stadium, confirmed on Wednesday.
The West Midlands outfit will see their capacity for the next two home games greatly reduced, owing to ongoing repairs.
The Championship club have today announced that the Kop and Tilton stands will both be shut for their next two home fixtures, which are against Stoke City and AFC Bournemouth.
The areas are said to be in desperate need of repair with work originally beginning last December, when supporters were unable to be allowed in through the turnstiles to attend games due to the pandemic and relevant restrictions.
However, a club statement released has stated that more time is now needed to complete the work, and they have no choice but to do this during the season which has only just begun.
Birmingham posted a statement on their website, saying: “It is with deep regret that the club have issued the following statement in relation to the ongoing remedial works to the Kop and Tilton stands: Due to an unexpected delay, communicated to the Club as late as Tuesday afternoon, the Kop and Tilton will remain closed for our Sky Bet Championship fixtures with Stoke City and Bournemouth.
“Tickets are no longer on sale for either fixture.
“With safety being of paramount importance to the Club, this position will remain under review with updates provided accordingly.
“A full statement will be issued later today detailing how this will affect supporters.”
There were over 6,000 supporters in attendance at St Andrew’s for their 1-0 Carabao Cup victory against Colchester on Tuesday night.
They are due to host Stoke City on Saturday and Bournemouth next Wednesday, and expected to be with a restricted amount of fans.

Your a shambles. You’ve had over 18 months of no fans to get this sorted and you have let us all down

@Team_Schroder: Why not ask Coventry to use there ground
@MattyladKRO: And you wonder now why they’ve never sent out season tickets they knew all along
@jakeyjones_12: Fuckin shambles!!!
@girlings4: absolutely awful blues. been past St. Andrews several times in last couple of months and not a sign of any building work activity. People i feel for now are the Tkt staff etc. sorting it all out now whilst the powers that be sit in their ivory tower #bcfc
@robbiek44:
There are 3 options:
1) access to Blues TV
2) credit towards next season ST
3) give the club the money to waste on useless footballers instead of repairing the stands.
#bcfc ladies and gentlemen
@ROBBIEBCFC1875: This is a joke. Nothing is going. You just don’t want us to go to the stadium because your scared of all of us
@Reggah1989: Fans have been without club football for 18 months, this is totally unacceptable. The fact you continued to sell season tickets and match day tickets is horrific. I have been on big construction jobs and this would just not have been an option to not get it over the line on time
@Ronaldous8: spot on.. completely unreasonable and pathetic excuses every time from our tin pot, piss poor club… I can’t think of another league club of our size that have had any sort of problems of this kind.. Absolutely raging!!!!
@stuart_bcfc: What a farce. I was really looking forward to Saturday and first game back for 18 months 😞 I can’t believe this has only come to light now, surely we would have had a safety inspection prior to selling tickets?! 🤦🏻♂️ #bcfc
@Macattacca: There has been enough time and we’ve received enough money from transfers to sort this out. You can say “well Dong was in charge and we are looking to sort it out now”all you like but stuff like this happens when we have absent owners. Shithouses.
@emdrakeley: Does anyone know what the hell they’re doing 🙃🙃
@alexjhurley: Embarrassing. Somebody somewhere has gambled wrongly on the work being signed off and thereby now created a new logistical & PR disaster for the club to deal with. This will pi55 people off and stop them from going. Still not good enough. #bcfc
@seegazza: Been told a pack of lies me and my son have been season ticket holders in the upper Tilton for years still haven’t received them.wondered how the top half of the Tilton and cop was supposed to ok all lies . was looking forward to Saturday all the same kro
@Russ_Kirby29: Can’t believe a ground built 20 odd years ago hasn’t lasted half the life span of the main stand! Reading about the issues in the kop and tilton it sounds like we would be better off knocking them down and starting again (if we had any cash to do so) 🤦🏻♂️
@telboy61: Surely tickets have been sold under false pretences? They knew they didn’t have the safety certificate, what was being done about it? If there is a list if things to do how many have been done? How many left to do? Who is in control? Who’s head is going to roll?
@danielgreenn01: If you are a season ticket holder you should be going mad how disgusting all that time in the pandemic to flood the job and get it done sunday morning pub teams are ran better then us
@ben_flavelle: Shocking, people have spent £500 on season tickets that are for seats that arent even available, hang your heads in shame, embarrassing.
@chudd0: Another disaster… I have a season ticket but can’t go to the game then. How embarrassing again!! Good job I’ve got helpful pals in other parts of the ground – looking forward to proportional refund for this game
@TomHeath27:
Shambles, after so much recent progress too. Questions to address in the statement later:
1. When were the club made aware of this development?
2. Did the club receive early warnings from the contractor? If so, when, and if not, why not?
3. What’s the plan for ticket holders?
@danspencerddd: Utter shite. Had 18 months to get it sorted. Also why are we expecting a construction company to have the work done by a deadline? Almost never happens.
@Liam3617: Must be the only club in the world not doing everything possible to get fans back in after 18 months. Fucking shambles.
@danzakis: Absolute shambles. Only Blues could not manage to get 1/2 of their main stands open after 18 months without any fans at matches. Really glad I bought season tickets for me and the 3 kids at the increased prices
@kiebales_: So we’ve been behind closed doors for 14 months, had 3 months of last year with no football, and now the fans are finally allowed back we’ve managed to yet again fuck them over? Only our club.
@ryanbcfc94: We’re a joke club. Nothing like a pandemic with stadiums closed to sort it out.
@ryanbcfc94: Don’t say you understand the frustration because you don’t. Been ran poorly for years now, beyond a joke
@harveyharris_: Absolute joke. You knew about this for ages and had 18 months to sort this out. Lying to the fans again.
@FleeDoubleE: Not fit to run a bath. Just get out of our club.
@LeeW1875: If safety was that important to the club why did we paint over the corroded steel for so many years then?
@spencerallen01: Our club never ceases to amaze the loyal supporters that give everything as fans. Absolute shambles @BCFC
@bluenoseben: Absolute shambles. As usual 1 step forward and 2 back. Just what Bowyer needs more inept management from above him. Sort it out ffs
@DannyMartin77: @wembleystadium any chance the stadium is available for the weekends @bcfc fixture, our grounds falling down
@MaddamsDean: This is bad @BCFC. Very bad indeed. The fall out from this will be indescribable. Whatever way you look at the situation it shambolic and whoever it is heads must, and will roll.
@Jak_Collier: Well done on commiting fraud and lying to fans. Good work! @Birmingnese
@Gary_Poynton
Wolves: Sorry lads but we’re gonna have to close the temporary stand for safety reasons
Blues: Hold my fuckin’ beer
@JamesRichmond17: They’ve had 18 months and the dividend of a club record transfer to do this job. There is zero excuse. unforgivable that they’ve possibly sold tickets on false pretenses, knowing full well the repairs would not be ready. The incompetence would be funny if not so sickening #bcfc
@Kristoff1875: You know how Derby and Forest play for the Brian Clough trophy… Us and Derby should play for the Banter Club Trophy…
@NatJPeters: Worst thing is, the club knew about this nearly 24 hrs ago but chose to cover it up until after last night’s game because they didn’t want any grief #bcfc
@Marrrrkkkkk: P.S if you’re phoning ticket office dont go ranting and making the staff feel shit. They’ve probably been given scripts and given misleading information themselves… its not their fault
@MarkWatson1875: Is it time for my annual “Birmingham City don’t give a shit about the fans” rant yet?
@adyjohnston: Cov might let you play at the Ricoh this year lads
@stoneageman1: There’s a hole in the roof where rain pisses through….
@kayy1875: The ground was literally empty for a whole year ?? Had so much time to sort it
