Billingham Town go viral across social media after ‘supporter Phil Smith receives a lifetime ban for unacceptable behaviour’.
Following their Northern League Division Two opener against Seaham Red Star on Saturday afternoon, which Billingham won 2-1, the club put out a post on Facebook and Twitter.
It has since gone on to get over 37,000 likes and millions of views within less than 12 hours.
@BillinghamTown said the following:
“CLUB STATEMENT – The club would like to address rumours circulating on social media regarding unacceptable behaviour following today’s game away to Seaham Red Star.
“After a brief investigation, we can confirm that Billingham Town supporter Phil Smith has received a lifetime ban from the club and has been reported to the Northern League, The FA and Cleveland Police.
“Although we are delighted to see Town win, and appreciate that celebrations can occasionally go a little too far, ordering a strawberry daiquiri in a pub, with the lads, on a matchday cannot—and will not—be tolerated.
“Furthermore, to ensure the club does not encourage similar behaviour in future, lager tops will no longer be served in the clubhouse.
“The club considers the matter closed.”

Totally fell for this until I read strawberry 🍓 🤣
As the post got more and more attention, the club’s social media admin posted a video: A message from Billy Town FC social media admin, last year the club received numerous complaints due to our conduct… reasons including being highly unprofessional, offensive, and just not funny… well suck it up, nerds, it’s only going to get worse!
“Buy a season ticket (and allow me to keep being a d*ck). Just £25 for adults!”
“Billingham Town FC 2026-27 season tickets now on sale. This message is in now way official and has not been approved by the club. Sorry not sorry. I apologise for nothing.”
Billingham Town go viral after ‘supporter receives lifetime ban for unacceptable behaviour’, here’s the huge amount of reaction to it all..
Sean Harte: Absolutely disgusting behaviour.
Natalie Hausseguy: Read all this think jeez what a pic to use for a ban 😂😂 then realised
Andy Williamson: Outstanding post 👏👏 How much are the Strawberry Daiquiris? Might get a season ticked if reasonable 🥤
Jo Slater: Totally fell for this until I read strawberry 🍓 🤣
Jason McIvor: Don’t know the lad but he has to accept this and learn. Love the clubs stance and if he try’s to sneak into Northallerton town away il make sure the Alcopops are hidden 😂
Steve Jonas: Totally took the shine off today’s result… appalling behaviour.
Paul Christopher: For a footy club to do a post like this for the bloke, he must be a absolute dead set legend.. lol
Bayu Zeva Wirasakti: It’s mental that this post reached all the way to Indonesia! Honestly, Phil Smith needs to sue for emotional damage at this point—his strawberry daiquiri photo has literally made it to the other side of the world. 🤣
Nicky Hclew: How has this made it to my feed in Shropshire? 🤣 #justiceforphil everyone deserves a second chance, we all make bad choices occasionally. If he can neck 10 pints of Stella and 6 tequila chasers to prove himself, would you reconsider the ban?
Julie Roscoe: No idea why im seeing this post, no idea where Billingham is 🤷♀️ Im assuming, due to the FA being involved, it means Everton will be deducted 10 points 🤔
Sandra Gallagher: No idea why this appeared on my feed but its hilarious, Phill Smith going viral over a strawberry daiquiri is just mental 😂😂😂
Jodie Burfield: No idea why this has come up in my feed when I live in Nottinghamshire but this is hilarious. New follower for Billingham Town recruited 😂
@nickverlaney: This is how you build club culture.
Neil Smith: He only wanted some liquid refreshment 😔
Chris Fenton: Phill smith landed in my feed and I’m in Aus, now following Billingham town as the banter game is strong
Steve Harrison: Popped up on my feed… had a good giggle… now want to purchase a club shirt 😂
Matt Keenan: We need a petition to get him reinstated. I had a raspberry mojito once. They’ve never let me forget it. The shame.
Andreanna Stoyan: this just came up on my feed no clue where Billingham is but the banter is unmatched made me LOL
Mick Roy Lutz Crowley: The algorithm put this at the top of my feed when I’m in Australia, I have no interest in football, and I’ve never heard of Billingham Town. I’m so glad it did.
Adrian Rusen: Okay I’ve officially been a Billingham Town FC supporter for 10 minutes now. I might’ve celebrate with a pint.
Jord Eliot: Never been to Billingham in my life, tbh I don’t even know where it is but I’m now following you after this post 🤣
Well done, this is the only way to stop standards dropping. Fans will be ordering organic cheese on their burgers next and this type of nonsense has no place in modern football https://t.co/JZ4vasxUfm
