Billericay make surprise re-appointment of former boss and bring back former player

Billericay Town have this morning announced the return of Harry Wheeler as first team manager and Jamie O’Hara as player/assistant manager.

Ex-Maidstone United boss Wheeler left the club back in September and O’Hara only departed the club a month ago because “the current regime and situation surrounding the club” was impossible for him to stay on.

Harry Wheeler said after the announcement of his return was made: “I have unfinished business here, I’m not too proud to let my ego get in the way of business, I never have been.
This a great club with a great squad and I want them to realise that and I’m not looking at coming back and making massive changes, every player has the chance to show me they are playing for their shirt, I’m looking forward to being back and hopefully doing what’s needed to start pushing Billericay back up the table where they should be.”

Jamie said: “I’m excited at the prospect of both being back as both a player and a coach, working alongside Harry and Glenn will be a great experience for me and one I cant wait to get going with, I have a lot of love for the club and I’m looking at hitting the ground running and get some positivity back both on the pitch and amongst the fans.”

Glenn Tamplin also added: “I am delighted to say even though I have been away from my family and friends for months, I have been in regular contact with the club, I wish Dean and Stuart all the best but needed to make the change, it was made well aware that me and Harry had our differences that resulted in Harry leaving the club, we have spoken at length and what happened is in the past and I’m so pleased that he has returned to finish the job he started and is joined by Jamie who was worked hard completing his coaching badges and I know will give 110% in his first coaching role working alongside Harry, Jamie still has plenty to give on the pitch so will return as a player/coach and will play a massive part on and off the pitch as we look to push to get back into the play-off places.

“There has been a lot of changes at the club recently, some that didn’t please everyone but needed to happen to ultimately make Billericay a self-sustainable club, something we are very close to achieving, one thing I know is important for the community and long term supporters of the club, I have been out here doing a lot of researching and spending time with some amazing people and I am so excited to return and share with you what I have been working so tirelessly on and has kept me away from my home and the club for so long, trust me I’m coming back with a bang, See you soon, GT”.

Predictably, fans replied to their announcement with plenty of mocking, however some Ricay fans were happy to see the changes made – we’ve rounded up what they’ve been saying, take a look on the next page.
