Speaking to BluesTV post-match, Chris Davies, who has just been nominated for League One manager of the month, praised his players’ application as Birmingham City scored three times during the opening 45 for the first time since December 2022.

He said: “I thought we were very good tonight. We wanted to make sure we came out with the right intent and aggression from the very first minute and I thought we saw that, and it sort of built from there. It was one of our most dominant displays.

“I thought we had a lot of the ball and used it well. We created chances with the ball and also from our pressing, so I was really pleased with our performance.

“Full credit to the fans – exceptional again tonight, in full voice. As I said to the players before the game, that shows the power of our club. Bringing 3,000-plus fans on a night like this to Shrewsbury, it says everything.

“What we need to do is show our power on the pitch and our quality on the pitch and, thankfully, we did that.”

Here’s how fans reacted on a beautiful team goal scored and a comfortable 4-0 victory for Birmingham against Shrewsbury…

@musicbyoneilluk: Davies ball in full effect

@BloosHarry_: Will never EVER understand why people don’t rate Keshi…

@fatpants0211: Football porn #BCFC

@BcfcMichael: Liquid football 😮‍💨 Davies ball in full flow. How good is it to finally see a manager speak about how he wants his teams to play and then be able transfer it onto the pitch 👏🏻 #bcfc

@beechishere: Give us the trophy now

@cwalcott29: Can’t remember seeing anything better than this from blues. Brilliant goal.

@JaidenBcfc: Chris Davies ball 😮‍💨

@JoeMilo26: Simply, simply lovely.

Best team goal since Everton (a) ?
What a day that was BTW

@MGAceman: 🎶 We’re taking the piss, we’re taking the piiiiiiiiiisss, we’re Birmingham City, we’re taking the piss… 🎶 #BCFC #KRO #BristolStreetMotorsTrophy

@Balf22: Still in shock that Blues are playing like this.

@Jam3s_34: This was superb stuff. Davies has implemented such awareness in them. #BCFC #KRO #Blues

@JakeyBoi93_: I wouldn’t want to be Chris Davies picking the next line up. Some players showing they should get a chance today but how do u replace some others. Selection headaches incoming

@Bradley_AJ: Lovely stuff the double is on. UP THE FUCKING BLUES 💙

@BCFCGAT9175: Top performance. Never got out of first gear and still dominated.

@WKG_97: Great response from the Charlton defeat with some players getting minutes they deserve. Wembley bound 🏟️ #BCFC

@afanperspective: That’s the way you respond to a really disappointing loss at the weekend. At it from the off, clinical when chances arrived, the movement, passing & finish for Wright’s 2nd goal (in particular) was a highlight. Now we go into the international break in good spirits.

@MarkWatson1875: But I thought Saturday was the big shock that derailed The Project and it was gonna be a slog from here on out?! Must be a typo…

@Kieranbcfc2: Shrewsbury were pretty poor and they came with little intensity but still brilliant from Blues. Some wonderful football which ripped them apart at times. Leonard, Yokoyama, Wright, Keshi, Davies and Dion superb. Great response to Saturday.
