Isthmian League club sack new boss after his first match

Yes, you read the headline correctly, Basildon United have sacked their new boss after his first match in charge.

Glen Kendall was only appointed six days ago, replacing John Sussex who resigned with the club sitting 19th in the BetVictor Isthmian North Division table.

But vice-chairman Lee Connor confirmed he has been sacked after a single match in charge of the side following Saturday’s 6-1 thrashing at home to Hornchurch in the FA Trophy.

Connor said: “We have had second thoughts and feel decisions were made far too quickly on the appointment of Glen Kendall and his management team.

“Therefore, Glen and his team have been relieved of their duties and the club will not be making any rash decisions for the time being.

“I will be stepping up as interim manager until a permanent appointment is made.”

Kendall is a former footballer who has played overseas in Poland and Thailand as a semi-professional.

He started his managerial career in 2014, also in Thailand, before heading to England and managing Leyton Athletic in the Essex Senior League as well as having a stint at Clapton followed by an assistant manager role at Newbury Forest.

Basildon United got rid of three managers last season before John Sussex in March, where they went on to finish 17th for the 18/19 season, though the current campaign they are one place above the drop and after managing to beat Chesham to advance in the FA Trophy, he resigned despite being asked to carry on by the club.
