Barnsley say they are to investigate a pitch invader incident with a number of their stewards injured during their win vs Fleetwood Town.
The League One club are looking into scenes that saw four stewards hurt and needing medical attention in the 84th minute of Thursday’s game.
The Tykes say two stewards required hospital treatment after suffering injuries to the head, while another two had to be treated by doctors and paramedics on site.
Barnsley scored an 86th-minute winner, shortly after manager Michael Duff were sent off having seen his side denied a penalty.
Barnsley Football Club has immediately launched a full investigation into the events surrounding the 84th minute of Thursday evening’s Sky Bet League One fixture with Fleetwood Town at Oakwell.
The Club is currently reviewing all CCTV footage obtained as it looks to gather as much evidence as possible, after a number of stewards were injured when attempting to deal with a pitch incursion during the latter stages of last night’s match.
As a result of this serious incident, two stewards suffered head injuries and have received hospital treatment, whilst two others were treated by doctors and paramedics on site.
This is completely unacceptable. Stewards are in place at Oakwell on matchdays for the safety of everyone within the stadium – including the players and officials on the pitch.
Supporters are reminded that encroachment onto the field of play is a criminal offence and those found guilty of such an offence will be punished accordingly. In the case of a minor encroaching onto the field of play, in such a case, the parents or guardians of the child in question will also face a ban from matches at Oakwell.
The Club will proceed to contact others who are believed to have been involved in Thursday’s incidents and take the necessary action.
Barnsley Football Club greatly values and appreciates support from the stands, and we thank the vast majority of the fanbase for their impeccable behaviour here at Oakwell and on our travels. But the safety of everyone attending matches is of the utmost importance and last night’s actions will not be tolerated.
The Club has a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of foul or abusive behaviour and condemns these actions – which have recently brought the Club into disrepute.
We are in dialogue with all relevant authorities, and whilst currently subject to an ongoing FA Action Plan following previous incidents at Oakwell, the potential ramifications following such an incident have been well documented.
As a Club, we do not want anyone visiting Oakwell to have a negative experience due to the actions of fellow supporters. If you are aware of those involved in the incidents last night, text us in confidence – 60777, start your message with “ALERT”.

Barnsley extended their unbeaten run to seven League One games thanks to Cundy heading home late on after Admiral Muskwe’s spot kick cancelled out an opener from James Norwood.
Herbie Kane went close for the hosts in the 26th minute, smashing his effort from 25 yards out, only for it to go just wide.
The Tykes opened the scoring in the 64th minute when Liam Kitching sent Norwood ahead, but a powerful effort of his went onto the roof of the net from the left side of the area.
Fleetwood saw Mads Andersen fouled Muskwe inside the area, with the substitute taking the resulting penalty and placing it into the bottom left corner.
Barnsley boss Michael Duff was handed a red card after seeing his side refused a penalty of their own with five minutes left on the clock, but the hosts got that winner as Cundy headed home from Luca Connell’s corner.
This is what fans said with Barnsley to investigate the pitch invader incident with stewards injured during the win vs Fleetwood…
@sykesy1983: Running on the pitch is out of order, but the way the stewards handled the while situation was shocking. A child got over excited, & then 4 adults manhandled him, which was a joke & the reason other fans were provoked tbh. I hope this behaviour is part of your investigation.
@lukefirthhh: Investigate your stewards and you will find all the answers
@CWreds20: Want to be looking at the heavy handed tactics from the Stewards. They don’t make it easy for themselves.
@mcconnell91993: @BarnsleyFC instead of getting stewards into oakwell that just stand and stare and incite trouble, why not ask the fans why the atmosphere is so shite every week? They haven’t a clue how to handle situations proven by last night’s antics
@MrMikeyMooshoo: Kid is wrong to enter the pitch but clearly the club has failed to protect a vulnerable person (child) there is no legal recourse for a steward to manhandle a child that isn’t presenting a risk. Police and clubs welfare officer should have been called and now the club risk sueing
@AlfieKuy: Will you condemn your heavy handed stewards?
@bfcharri: Steward chasing that kid looked like he was about to have a heart attack
@BobbieHexNews: Is this the 4-5th investigation already, this season alone? Either it’s just theater or y’all have a real problem with abusive actions? @BarnsleyFC
@harryw79: As part of the investigation, can you put the cctv footage online of the stewards and how they man handled a child in the west stand. Heard they we’re going to throw him out on his own as well.
@SBFCO1: More like someone should be investigating that clown referee
@roamingbrit: Probably the same stewards that told me to sit down in the sparse away end 30 minutes before KO in August.
@kylebarrettt: Stop hiring fat stewards who can’t run then 👍
@WorsbroTyke: Never read as much shit in my life. Joke of a club!
@jackbfc1995: Stewards were the problem to start with but am sure that will get over looked and the fact they tried to man handle a kid about 10 out of the ground alone breaking all safeguarding law bit of common sense taking him to his parents and say don’t do it again.
@BrammahAshley: The stewards are half the reason the atmospheres shit, you can’t stand up and make a noise ffs, sort this shit out
@BobJuinior: Sort your stewards out they deserve it
@jordie_bfc: Stewards are one of the reasons the atmosphere is garbage.
@JamesArmo1994: Never read so much bullshit in all my life sort stewards out who think they can bully who they please they are the root cause of most problems same old barnsley though looking to ban people when we should be begging for support after mis recent management joke of club! #bullies
@joshualuke: Keep of the pitch then no problem
@jakefmufc: Was best bit of game get a grip
@skellatyke1970: Should give the stewards a talking too first , but that’s not condoning the actions of the lad that came onto the pitch and the reaction of the adults at top of the stairway in the west stand. should have been dealt with much better than it was
@timo5233: Makes good tv fans giving stewards runaround, leave em be

Club need to train stewards better. Law is law and so is the child protection Act. Parents will be rightly banned but if this reported behaviour from stewards is correct it is illegal and invalid. pic.twitter.com/qtFGa3GZFo
