Barnsley fans poke fun at their side as the 7-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Man Utd on Tuesday night leaves boss Darrell Clarke fuming.
Doubles from Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen as well as a penalty from Antony saw Erik ten Hag’s side ease past the League One side.
United go through to the last 16 of the EFL Cup with it their biggest win since they hammered Southampton 9-0 in February 2021.
Despite watching their get well and truly thrashed, the away end kept up the noise levels, while also taking to sing “We’ve had a shot!” before Eriksen made it 6-0…
‘We’ve had a shot’ sing the @BarnsleyFC fans, who have made plenty of noise despite the scoreline.

Player of the match Marcus Rashford, speaking to Sky Sports: “Football is football. Sometimes you have ups and sometimes downs, but we have to use these games to get momentum and consistency.
“We will move on to the next game now, rest, recover and focus on the next one.
“As a front unit and midfield I thought we done really well today.”
Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen, speaking to Sky Sports: “After the first goal it got easier. It gave us more time and space. We were then very clinical and it was a nice evening.
“We still need to keep going. This is just the start as it is early in the season. It was nice to give the fans something on a Tuesday night.”
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to Sky Sports: “It was a difficult start but it was not bad once we found the shape. It is the first time this team is playing together, once we found our patterns we scored some great goals.
“I thought the first goal from Marcus [Rashford] was really good, but so were the rest. We played with a lot of speed and were ruthless in front of goal.
“The key was the right attitude and to be 100% concentrated.”
On Marcus Rashford’s two goals: “I am confident that he will score. Last season was for everyone difficult, and we ended with a trophy. You can’t forget it, but we hit our target and that is what we aim for this season, we want to progress.”
“We want to progress. We want to be better. We are very ambitious” 📈

Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke, who is a boyhood United fan, was left unhappy by his side’s performance.
“I have had a go at them. I wasn’t happy with the performance.
“I know we have come to Man Utd, who have world-class players, but I wasn’t happy with how we played. Mael (de Gevigney) was the only player who comes out with credit.
“Did the occasion get to some of them? Yes, probably. We have to understand what it takes to be a top player.
“Don’t ever let me hear one of them talking about how bad some Premier League players are. They are miles off.
“The players were miles off the standards of a top Barnsley player tonight never mind a top Premier League player.
“It was a proud night for myself but it’s been ruined by the performance.”
“We are very disappointed in our performance. We haven’t done ourselves justice” 😤

Here’s how fans reacted as Barnsley fans poke fun at their side during the 7-0 defeat to Man Utd which leaves Darrell Clarke fuming…
Alison AndAlan Hibberd: I took grandkids to school this morning. Grandson asked his m8 who was going to match what he thought score would be he said 9-0 to united so,on that basis I think we did pretty well keeping the score.at 7-0 🤣😂🤣
Sam Doughty: When Marcus Rashford gets MOTM you know we did bad…
Janet Young: I have just watched the game and there is no doubt that Manchester were the best team in terms of of players, skill and fitness. I get that. I had no expectation of anything other than a win for them. However, the commentary was something else. A premier league side playing League 1. If you listened to what was being said you would have thought they were putting Man City to the sword. I have never in my life heard such fatuous comments. This is the spring board of their season, Rashford has got his mojo back. Their forwards are working together as a unit. Devine justification will be for them to get beat 4-0 at Palace at the weekend just to see if the comments are right! I don’t blame United. Sky need to educate their commentators.
Mark Baznett: Manure played full strength we played a backup team really with some players such as watters, jalo and yimal… what did we expect. They want to win this cup as they can’t win the league … that early goal for them was the one .. they got that and we had no chance … hey well .. dust down .. bounce back BURTON SATDI OI OI
Craig Wood: Not that it makes any difference but it made me laugh that there was more contact in humphrys simulation than there was in that pen 😂😂😂
Claire Hayes: Barnsley fans were brilliant tonight at old trafford, singing shouting and clapping right to the end of the match despite the score. made me proud! 💪❤️
Robert Sykes: I’ve been a barnsley fan for 63 years and I’ve got to say our fans were fantastic tonight me my son and grandaughter go to every game home and away what an atmosphere tonight proud to be from tarn thankyou to my grimey Reds family proper fans
Rachel Rachel: I hope the lads enjoyed the experience and can push forward in the league. Hopefully the payday can help enhance the squad.
Lee Wilson: As the commentary team just said…its HUGE win for Manchester United…
Mick Fisher: The score was irrelevant if anyone thought it would be different then they have their own theatre of dreams. But I hope the board saw the terrific support we gave them now look into the January window to add some quality
Chris Dobson: We never stood much of a chance lets be honest rashford alone is worth more than our club complete stadium team and all.. BUT a lack of fight and passion was gravely obvious..we have so many weak spots… the team isnt as good as last year… We will win more than we lose..but i feel we are ill prepared for any of the better teams…
Lee Phillips: Painful to watch how easy utd carved us open time and time again. Mid table this season, can forget play offs, worst Barnsley side I’ve seen for a long time
James Heasley: We played against 14 international players. In contrast, the 16 players we put out between them had 1 international cap. Many of these games Prem teams take their foot off the gas. UTD were focused and kept going, ruthless throughout. Just shows the level these lads have to aspire to.
Danny Dixon: Was unlucky today lads close game
Martin Cawthrow: Does this score reflect how the team played or does the coaching staff needs to be replaced
David Jonas: 102 years since we won at Old Trafford, first 8 mins we looked good rest of the game they took us down at every opportunity, a game we were never going to win, I thought manager did right thing trying different players up front, they were on Duracell we were on Tesco value…. 😂
Kim Kanda: Welcome to Old Trafford always buddy 😊
David Wake: We went down to a similar score against Man City in the League cup quite a few years ago but I think the score was 7-1 and Barry Conlon got our consolation goal. One reason I didn’t waste my money and effort going to Old Trafford. There are some serious questions about our on loan goalie on this showing. The defence didn’t give him much cover to be fair but he was at fault for more than the penalyt.
Aaron Taylor: Think the players/management need to reimburse our fans for this performance – we definitely need to improve or another season in’t league one!!
Rob Miles: We lost 7-0 there in prem with best players we’ve ever had. No need to panic
John Osborne: A clean sheet on Saturday is the bare minimum. Doesn’t matter if they don’t score. Tighten up at the back.
Kieran Woolston: Can’t even say United played well either just 0 interest in applying any pressure on any part of the pitch. Exact same as Saturday except they have a decent squad that put those constant mistakes we make to bed.
Kevin Green: The lack of effort from the players is worrying
Adrian Sanger: Well done DC. Got players to show plenty of bite, just forgot their teeth. 😂
Graham Goddard: what do we expect against a £100 million plus team full of international players for gods sake
Rob Plant: Asking for shirts soon as whistle went is poor after not even laying a glove all game
Warren Wright: I think it’s fair tio say that it was a shocking performance. The players feared OT rather than embrace it. Feel sorry for the fans that were robbed of £42
Geoff Red Barnsley: Get a grip, we played 95 minutes in total and they only scored in seven of those. 😁
Jack Slater: Hopefully this will kick start are season.. that man utd squad was good team.he put out.
David Smith: Excellent defensive display we really did frustrate them for 15 minutes. Any Barnsley player with Premiership aspirations forget them.
George Paul Ives: Nothing but the best for you guys for the rest of the season🫂🤝
Richard Barker: Embarrassing, our passing is shocking, wide open at the back and no attacking threat
Justin Metcalf: Massive game Saturday now focus on league!
