Barnet confirm departure of their head coach leaving fans frustrated… again!

Barnet have had to confirm the departure of their head coach Simon Bassey which is now leaving their fans frustrated… once again!

The Bees finished the 2020/21 season in 22nd place, picking up a total of 31 points from 42 games, avoiding relegation with none going down.

It was on the 7th of April 2021 that Bassey was appointed First Team Coach at the National League side, initially as the most senior coach for the first team and leading the team in training and on matchdays.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Barnet Football Club can today confirm that First Team Coach Simon Bassey has decided to leave the Club.

Shortly after arriving at The Hive London, the Club made a long term offer to Simon to continue at the helm for the 2021/22 season and beyond. However, Simon has made the Club aware that he has been offered a role with an EFL Club and has opted to take this position.

Following his departure, Bassey said: “I very much enjoyed my time working at Barnet Football Club. I would like to thank all the players and all the staff for their efforts during my time at The Hive. I would like to thank the Chairman for giving me the opportunity to work at this brilliant football club. The players and backroom staff gave absolutely everything they had during my spell and ensured that we restored some pride come the end of the campaign.

“I was planning on staying for a longer period of time, but ultimately an opportunity has come up for me to work at a higher level and it’s a fantastic opportunity for me; one that I felt I couldn’t turn down. The Chairman has tried everything he can to convince me to stay, but I just feel at this time the opportunity gives me the chance to work at the best level I can, with ambitions of working even higher next year. I want to thank all of the supporters for their encouragement since I came in. Even though they couldn’t be with us I have felt their presence and I am grateful for that. It makes it even more special we could finish with two wins in front of them. I wish nothing but the best for everyone at Barnet Football Club moving forwards.”

Chairman Tony Kleanthous said: “I was delighted with the progress we had made during Simon’s time at the Club and was very keen to have him on board for the upcoming campaign. I am disappointed but understanding of Simon’s decision and I wish him well for the future. We will now go about making the right appointment to take us forward into pre-season and the campaign ahead.”

We’d like to thank Simon for all of his efforts during his time at the Club and wish him well for his future endeavours.

The Club will now begin the process of recruiting a replacement and will provide an update when this process has been completed.

Barnet confirm departure of their head coach leaving fans frustrated… again while others had something else to say about it!

@NoMagRyan: Here we go. We’re going to wait two months to make an appointment, be forced to bring in the ex-manager from Shitmunchers FC or whoever because we’ve left it too late and we’re paying peanuts, then cobble together a squad of bottlers for a fiver a week

@petershaw20: Total groundhog Day. As usual just when we’d managed to miraculously conjour up some optimism from nowhere.

@ForeverAYellow: Jeez just their luck, feels like it’ll be forever before Barnet are back in League Two

@charliecassen: Just as I was starting to look forward to next season, I’m all of a sudden shitting myself again

@james_harpin: Honestly not even shocked anymore. Same place as we were the start of last season…

@Dragonfly293: @simonbass10 Really sad to see you go but thank you for getting the best out of the players and proving there was a team in there at the end. Good luck in your next adventure

@DSM58: We are fast becoming a joke due to our chairman. If SB was the right head coach regardless of the DOF why wasn’t he signed up beyond 2 months when he came in, that’s what TK indicated on the podcast. Everytime we have hope a poor short sighted decision by our chairman bites us!

@james_harpin: TK out. This was obvious. Should’ve been done weeks ago

@OscarB___: Thank you @simonbass10 really got the hive rocking. Please TK do the right think and get in Currie or Allen

@Clive_Chilvers: Unbelievable! I thought he was at least taking us into next season. Very worried now about who we’ll get & what team will be built!

@TacticalBassey: Pure pain

@BrooklynDon6: I hope Bass is coming back home to AFC Wimbledon. He was sidelined by a previous manager and that was a big mistake. Bass was behind some of our best signings. We never should have let him go. He did a great job for Barnet which is no surprise.

@hyamzy1: TK can sod off yet again. He is responsible for not sorting this out weeks ago! To busy slagging fans off. Another problematic pre season finding a Manager when we should be signing players! Queue another season of dross! Becoming a farse. Bring mad dog bring Darren back

@Hackett01: Could not make this up. Hopefully TK got some compensation. 💰💰

@petershaw20: Joke club. 1 step forwards, 5 back. Always. FFS.
