Banner held up as Huddersfield fans leave on the 60th minute of 4-0 defeat to Charlton

A banner was held up as Huddersfield fans vent anger and leave on the 60th minute of their side’s 4-0 defeat to Charlton on Saturday.

Charlton were 1-0 up just 30 seconds in. A sloppy pass from Radinio Balker, gifted Thierry Small possession on the right, he went forward, sent in a perfect cross with Matty Godden heading the ball across Lee Nicholls’ goal and into the far corner for his 13th league goal of the season.

On 17 minutes, Charlton doubled their lead, the Terriers again struggling to deal with it, a long diagonal cross and a loose ball was nodded wide by Luke Berry for Tyreece Campbell in space on the left, then a strike through Ollie Turton’s legs, past Lee Nicholls with it going in off the far post.

Charlton made it 3-0 on 53 minutes, Huddersfield unable to hold possession in midfield, Luke Berry to Tyreece Campbell on the left, Campbell cut inside and sent it in the far corner to make it five goals for the season in League One for the 21-year-old.

It got worse for Huddersfield, 4-0 on the 60th minute, Lee Nicholls with an own goal. His side’s defence stood still in their own box, as they allowed Tyreece Campbell to pass back to the unmarked Greg Docherty on the edge of the box, then unleashed a swerving half-volley which hit the bar, then back off the keeper’s back.

Chuks Aneke had it in the net but was offside from a flick-on, as the game was coming to an end.

Hudderfield Town’s interim head coach Jon Worthington saids, per Yorkshire Post: “We started really slowly, it was a disappointing goal to concede, and the lads never really recovered from that.

“I’ve been honest with them, they’re an honest group anyway, we didn’t win any first or second balls, which was very disappointing.

“The response after the first goal never happened and that was the frustrating thing. You can accept conceding a goal, but it’s how you get back in the game.

“League One is an unforgiving league, there’s some good opposition and unfortunately today we were short in a lot of areas.

“The only positive for me is that the (next) game comes Tuesday. Just like Charlton did after getting beaten last week, they reacted and responded, and we have to do the same.”

Charlton manager Nathan Jones: “From start to finish, I don’t think you’ll see a better League One performance than that.

“I don’t want to over-egg it, or be disrespectful to anyone, but that was complete. We were outstanding in both sides of the game, our press, our energy, how we moved the ball. To be fair, their keeper had an excellent game, but 4-0 didn’t flatter us.”

Jones on Campbell: “Tyreece is a young player learning his trade. We’ve had a year with him, he’s developing and there’s plenty more to come.

“He’s a joy to work with, every day he works hard, he has a smile on his face. We love him. We have to keep him grounded and he has to respond. Which he has.”

Twitter users reacted as a banner emerges and Huddersfield fans leave on the 60th minute during defeat to Charlton…

@IrelandTerriers: Probably the earliest I’ve left a Town in match in 30+ years of going to games. There’s players in that team who just can’t do the basics of professional football and don’t seem care either. I got up at 3:30am to fly over for this 💩 #htafc

@dylan__htafc: This is the kind of shite we are expecting to watch next season at the price increase yeah? Fuck that #htafc

@Dave_w08: Sick of this team!! 😡 embarrassing performance from minute one.. ball bouncing off players, 4 gift wrapped goals, utter garbage.. cba listening to little man Jones say how good they were they’ve hardly had to do anything which is worse! #htafc

@westhtafc: This shit show is on Nagle. Its alright putting your money in but name one thing that he’s got right on the pitch. Every decision takes us further away. Absolute clueless #htafc

@jhtafc:
– Sacked Warnock from a ‘position of strength’
– Hired and fired Moore
– Hired and fired Andre
– Relegation
– Hired and fired Duff
– Millions wasted on injury ridden and shite players
All within 2 seasons.@KevinNagleMLS beyond embarrasing
#htafc

@chefsmith28: We’ve gone through 4 managers since Nagle took over, yet the one person who is responsible for hiring them and giving them what they need still remains. Until he goes, this club can’t move forwards. Today is as low as it gets. To see how far away we are is alarming #htafc

@budby1: Worst performance of the season, no shape, no plan. Embarrasing, Worthy isn’t the answer because these players simply are not good enough. He has got this completely wrong today. Forget this season it’s done #htafc

@Billo20Four7: Get rid of Cartwright, Edwards & whole recruitment team. Players out on that pitch look so far off it against a side we are supposed to be challenging. Charlton should be in double figures. Amazing they aren’t. They won’t have an easier game this season. Truly shocking. #htafc

@Chris69793:
Nagles tenure to press is a failure, not delivered on one promise & taken us back 15-20yrs
Season tickets
Challenge for prem in 3
Exciting attacking football
Recruitment
Etc etc etc
Blamed everyone (inc fans) bar himself and the 2 stooges he recruited run club #htafc

@andymortby: I hope you are here to re build the senior leadership team , the constant failings are on them, we screamed at you about this during relegation season, on relegation and then in the summer when you bizarrely re interviewed them #htafc @KevinNagleMLS

@Johnlongson: Who’s the scapegoat now town fans? Who do we want sacking? I thought Charlton played well, they were all over us, and we were sloppy. Onto the next game. #HTAFC #UTT

@kasooomooo: So maybe Duff wasn’t the issue… shock

@luke_htfc: Never want to hear the chairman come out with all that shite about how this squad has quality ever again. Utter wank

@GermanTerrier73: After such “work” they usually fire you immediately for unsuitability… but unfortunately this does not threaten you… if the Badge on your chest does not mean anything, just wait until the end of the season and f..ck off.

@HTFTV8: An utter embarrassment of a performance. The players don’t give a shit, a massive clear out in the summer needed but under a new board. We cant go on like this. Another season stuck in this shocking league. Shove your increased season ticket prices up your arse. PATHETIC #HTAFC
