Aston Villa mocked by non league outfit as Leeds transfer news emerges

Aston Villa have been getting mocked by non league outfit Ossett United as transfer news regarding Leeds United emerges this week.

On Wednesday, a report by The Athletic claimed that Steven Gerrard’s side are strong admirers of 26-year-old England international Kalvin Phillips but as long as Leeds stay a Premier League club, a deal for him is a “non-starter”.

Villa had unsuccessful attempts to bring him in during the 2019 transfer window following their promotion out of the Championship in 2019, via the playoffs with Leeds suffering playoff heartache that season in the semi finals via defeat to Derby County.

Phillips admitted that the unsuccessful attempt at promotion left him “gutted” and was soon looking at a move to Villa to achieve his childhood dream of playing Premier League football.

Leeds turned down multiple offers in excess of £20m for his services and Phillips then signed a new five-year deal in September 2019, before sealing promotion with his boyhood club in the 2019/20 season under Marcelo Bielsa.

Speaking to Football Focus, Phillips was asked by Ian Wright about the interest from Villa and if Granny Val got involved and the Leeds captain admitted: “Yeah she did to be fair.

“The season we didn’t get promoted and we got knocked out in the play-offs – I was gutted man.

“I told her about Aston Villa being in touch and she was like ‘oh no, you are not doing that.’

“I was like ‘what do you mean? It’s a chance to play Premier League football, I have always wanted to do it.’

“She said ‘you have been at Leeds for 10 years now, you were this close to going up, why not give it one more shot to try and make it up, try and do something that Leeds fans and your family will never forget and stick it out.'”

Now this new speculation on him linked with Villa was posted on the Birmingham Mail’s AVFC Twitter account, and Ossett United took to social media to jokingly declare they are also admirers of Phillips.

“We can confirm that we at Ossett United also admire Kalvin Phillips,” said the tweet by the Northern Premier League Division One East club.

Their tweet has gone on to get nearly 2,000 likes, becoming one of the most popular and talked about social media posts for the team in a long time, and no doubt gained new followers in doing so.

Whilst the tweet was popping off, Ossett made them aware of their new home game in a bid to raise their attendance.

The 7th place side will host 8th positioned Dunston as they eye to catchup with those in the playoffs having fallen behind.

They wrote: “If any of you @lufc fans are at a loss for what to do on Saturday at 3pm we are home to Dunston, there will be a new face in the squad too…”

While Aston Villa are mocked by the non league outfit as Leeds transfer news emerges, fans couldn’t help but laugh and praise Ossett for their great attempt at humour…

@simonmc68: Kalvin is far more likely to choose Ossett over Villa. Bigger club, nicer stadium, delicious half time pies.

@roblufc_: More worried about Ossett’s interest than villa’s, ossett are much bigger in my book

@71Tonka: Ossett United, a bigger club than Aston Villa.

@sam_brown7: The content I’m here for 😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

@joexlufc: Ossett United are a massive football club and should be in the premier league

@LUFC_Llorente: Ossett United are in fact a huge club

@paulbowler60: Brilliant 😂

@bushers68: Keep your hands off him Ossett, he’s ours. 😁

@Allcheese1: 👀 You love to see it 😂😂😂😂

@Leeds_Loyal: @AVFCOfficial have less chance than @OssettUnited of getting him 😂

@MOTduenextweek: You have a better chance of signing him than Villa .

Talking of Kalvin Phillips, it was two weeks ago that he hilariously responded to transfer interest with a video of him uploaded onto social media.

It was reported back then that he is hoping to get a new contract at Elland Road and insists to being happy at the club amid interest from other clubs.

Manchester United were credited with being keen in him this year with interim Ralf Rangnick said to be admiring of the 26-year-old.

‘Going from Championship to Premier League to England Player of the Year, it was an eye-opener and made me realise, “I can do this”,’ Phillips told the Mail.

‘Everything came together, the hard work taking me where I wanted to be. If I carry on doing that, who knows where I’ll end up.’

He added: ‘I just want to focus on getting back fit,’ he says. ‘But I speak to the owner regularly. I want a new contract. I’m very happy here.’

Meanwhile, a video was uploaded of him saying: “I’m not fucking leaving” as it had a lot of people in hysterics. Take a look…
