Aston Villa fan mocks Leeds with shocking Marcelo Bielsa stats for 2020/21 season

An Aston Villa fan mocks Leeds United with some shocking Marcelo Bielsa stats listed by Sky Sports for the 2020/21 season this week.

Both clubs have had a decent start to the new campaign it’s to be said, with Villa sitting 7th in the Premier League table, whereas the Whites are 12th in the first season back in the top flight since being relegated in 2004.

Dean Smith has transformed his side, saving them from being relegated on the final day of the 2019/20 season, to genuine contenders for some sort of European qualification place.

Marcelo Bielsa has had a great 2020, even earning himself a place on the five-man shortlist of FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year, however lost out to Jurgen Klopp for leading Liverpool to their first ever Premier League title.

One Villa fan however mocks Leeds after Bielsa was nominated for such an award, mentioning it in a caption on his viral social media post.

He wrote: “Coach of the year nominee lady’s and gentlemen…” along with a photo that he took of stats listed by Sky Sports.

The stats show that Leeds defence this season has seen the follow:

Goals conceded – 30 (PL rank – 20th)

Shots faced – 214 (PL rank – 17th)

Shots on target faced – 86 (PL rank – 19th)

Errors leading to shots – 13 (PL rank – 20th)

Set piece goals conceded – 9 (PL rank – 20th)

Goals conceded from crosses – 8 (PL rank – 20th)

Headed goals conceded – 7 (PL rank – 20th)

Some would argue with that however, by adding in additional stats which goes to show why Leeds are in the position that they find themselves in when looking at the standings…

As the Villa fan mocks Leeds, Paul Merson recently ranted about how the West Yorkshire outfit’s fanbase should be furious at ‘Bielsa ball’, saying: “Everybody’s caught on now. They’ve all caught on, every manager. They’ve all caught on.”

The former Arsenal man frothed about the Argentine’s famed tactics added: “[Saïd] Benrahma plays at Leeds United. He didn’t play at Chelsea. Why didn’t he play at Chelsea?”, he continued to a grinning Jeff Stelling, as if squad rotation isn’t a thing.

Leeds managed to controversially beat Burnley 1-0 in the Premier League fixture a day after Boxing Day, however the Clarets felt their goal should have stood or they should have been handed a penalty.

Ashley Barnes had the ball in the net on the 19th minute mark, but there had already been a whistle blow for what happened in the penalty area.

Illan Meslier came out to collect a high ball into the box then almost jumps and knocks over Ben Mee, but it’s the Leeds man who wins the free-kick before Barnes can spin and rifle it into the net.

Dyche, who had spoken to referee Robert Jones after the match, said of the disallowed goal: “Ben Mee does nothing other than clearly attempt to win a header. He doesn’t even look at the man.

“The ‘keeper comes out, knees him in the back, drops the ball and somehow that’s a foul on him and it’s an impossibility, even allowing for the protection of keepers.

“I have no clue where the game is at physically now,” he added.

“The lucky thing is everyone will see it, that’s a bizarre incident. That can’t be in the game. It should be a penalty for us – you can’t run, jump and knee someone in the back.

“So I’m incredibly frustrated, and lots of other decisions, but they’re two very important decisions that have gone against us.”

More reaction to Burnley’s disallowed goal…

Ben Mee: “I don’t know how it’s a foul against me. If anything, don’t give anything – it’s more of a penalty than a free-kick. Barnsey put in a good finish, but I don’t know what he (the referee) was doing.”

Ashley Barnes: “The keeper tried to smash Ben Mee, missed the ball and I put it in. I don’t know why it was ruled out. There were so many decisions all day, it’s frustrating.”

Marcelo Bielsa: “Sincerely I don’t know whether the calls were correct or not. I just accept the decisions of the referees. As you ask the question, it seems we have benefitted from the decision.”

Patrick Bamford: “There were lots of fouls that could’ve gone either way for both teams. As a team they [Burnley] were screaming for everything and that influences a referee, sometimes not in a positive way. I thought the referee did his job and I thought he had an alright game.”

Meanwhile, A miffed off Leeds United fan names who he wants to replace Marcelo Bielsa live on talkSPORT amid relegation fears yet the club are 12th.

Bielsa’s side often receive praise from pundits, managers and presenters with their style of play, even Gary Neville liked how they always have a desire to attack even when they come up against stronger opponents – such as Manchester United, who beat Leeds 6-2 recently.

Bielsa is described as a hero by most Leeds fans after ending their 16-year Premier League exile last season, but Whites supporter Danny insists his time should be up.

He told Darren Bent’s Boot Room on talkSPORT: “We’ve got a lot of issues. There are teams worse off than us. The sad thing with us is there is just so much potential, but there is plan A, plan A or plan A.

“We can’t defend set-pieces, we can’t finish; [Patrick] Bamford has scored the goals, but how many chances does this man need to have in front of him before he can actually finish?

“People will say, ‘Bamford, he’s scored so many goals this season’, but he misses about five chances before he scores the first one! We don’t have enough quality in depth.

“I feel if we leave Bielsa in charge we’re going to go down playing this style of football. We can’t go down. It took us 16 years to get back into the Premier League.

“We cannot afford to go down. I’ve seen managers sacked for less. I called for this after we got hammered the other week.

“Don’t get me wrong, we had a good win last week, but Newcastle are not exactly a world-beating team, are they? I think it’s time for him to go.”

Sam Allardyce return to management, replacing Slaven Bilic at West Brom, Danny however feels he would like to see Rafa Benitez replace Bielsa at Elland Road.

He added: “There are other managers out there who could stabilise the team, sort the defence out.

“This wasn’t even a good United team, it’s one of the worst United teams we’ve seen since the [Sir Alex] Ferguson days.

“There have been some bad teams but this is by no means a good team. Arsenal, one of the worst teams at the moment, came to Old Trafford and managed to scrape a 1-0 [win]… we were six down!

“It’s just a joke. Thanks for the memories, Marcelo, but I think it’s time for a change. I’d try to get Rafa in or someone like that. We’ve missed out on Big Sam.”
