Anthony Gordon gives brutal interview hitting out at Everton over manner of his exit

Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon gives a brutal interview to Sky Sports, hitting out at Everton over the manner of his exit.

After being the subject of both Newcastle and Chelsea interest the previous summer, the 22-year old left his boyhood club in January for a £40million payment.

Everton fans chased Gordon’s car from Goodison Park earlier that month after a 2-1 loss against fellow strugglers Southampton.

Gordon posted a message via social media with thanks to the club and his “second family” for their support.

In contrast, Everton’s statement read: “Anthony Gordon has joined Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old forward leaves Everton after having submitted a formal transfer request.

“Gordon joined the club’s academy at the age of 11 and made his senior debut as a 16-year-old in a Europa League tie in December 2017. He went on to make 78 First-Team appearances, scoring seven goals.”

Questioned by Sky Sports in an interview about whether he was disappointed by Everton’s short statement, Gordon replied: “It did hurt me, I’m not going to lie to you. I’m a 22-year-old lad, I’m not going to handle every situation in life perfectly, but as a club with thousands of people working for them…

“After the part I played keeping them up — I won player’s player, manager’s player of the year — for them to not show me any credit or thank me, it hurt me a little bit.”

On incidents with supporters, he added: “It’s difficult to come back from that. Once things like those happen, it’s hard to recover from, because I’m from there, I grew up on those streets.”

Gordon made his first start for Newcastle against current Premier League holders Man City on Saturday, having previously made three substitute appearances.

This is what fans said as Anthony Gordon gives a brutal interview hitting out at Everton over the manner of his exit…

@JakeAFC9: He got 6 g/a in 35 games as an attacker, if anything he was one of the reasons they were at risk of being relegated

@camjacl: He left horribly at an awful time after underperforming what was expected of him.

@_Drew_McCoy_:
Has anyone connected to Everton even thought of him since he’s left? There’s basically no I can think of who is arguing, “Well, Everton would be in better shape if Gordon was still here!” I’m glad they got the money (need to spend it this summer) and he got his move. Next….

@ben1878_: Sums his attitude up. Thinks because he did the bare minimum his name should be in lights. He’ll never be a top player him, worse than Barkley.

@ILACommissioner: Delusional

@Warren_Evans: You’re an absolute disgrace, @anthonygordon

@WatchedToffee:
Thank you for what?
More bookings than goal involvements?
Kicking off about actually travelling, never mind playing, for us in London?
Asking to leave more than once?
Bang average.

@stemcdermott1: Cheeky cunt. What about your effort this season when you stopped coming to training tryna force your move? Rattlesnake @anthonygordon

@PeterJMacca: Anthony Gordon is absolutely desperate for us to be gutted that he’s gone isn’t he. His ego can’t handle the fact that we all know he’s shite 😂😂😂

@Jake_armstrong9: Love Anthony Gordon, speaks so openly and honestly. The way he was treated near the end of his Everton career was disgusting, he has nothing to apologise for. If anything he needs to be apologised to

@rosiep777x: Anthony Gordon is the most deluded man I’ve ever heard speak

@Scufflers: @anthonygordon on behalf of every Evertonian, thanks! For nothing, you fucking rat.

@EvertonBlueArmy: Who does he reckon he is? He didn’t do anything for us. The only ones who can justify wanting a bit of credit for keeping the club up last season is Richarlison, Jordan Pickford and the fans.

@LeeFMc83: What a deluded, arrogant little twerp he is. The fans, Richarlison and Pickford kept us up. Iwobi played a much bigger part too.

@terrymcallister: Polite reminder that Anthony Gordon stopped turning up to training in January whilst Everton were negotiating his sale to Newcastle.

@StevenF17066810: If Anthony Gordon was as good and as important as he thinks he is he would be World Class. Someone needs to break it to the B-Tech Francis Jeffers that he’s not that guy

@ChrisPickles24: What a load of bollocks this is @anthonygordon. You downed tools to get your move, you refused to train, you refused to travel to away games, you put fuck all effort in on the pitch… What do you expect the club to do when you do that?? Bellend!
