Ange Postecoglou snaps at BBC reporter’s two-word question after Tottenham’s defeat to Everton

Ange Postecoglou snaps at a BBC reporter’s two-word question after Tottenham’s defeat to Everton, with the interview going viral online.

The Spurs boss expressed frustration right at the start of the interview with a comment about the match being a “familiar story,” referring to Tottenham’s recent poor performances.

The reporter began by saying: “Ange, familiar story.

“What are your assessments of that performance please?”

Postecoglou replied: “Familiar story?’ to which reporter replied, “Well in terms of defeat.”

Postecoglou then said, “Yeah okay. Great way to start an interview.”

At half time they found themselves three goals down – thanks to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye, and an Archie Gray own goal, before late goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou talking to BBC Match of the Day: “It is a tough result for us. In the first half we struggled to get control of the day. We made some changes that probably weren’t helpful in the end. Players struggled to come to terms with it and Everton capitalised. The players put in a good response in the second half and credit to them but it wasn’t enough.

“We had a great chance at 1-0 so we had opportunities to stay in the game. The first half we gave them too many opportunities to hurt us. The second half response was better.

“When you’re 3-0 down it can one of two ways. Players can lose discipline and focus but they were determined to get something from the game. The players that came on helped us but sadly it wasn’t enough.

“There is always encouragement or the players but ultimately we’ve fallen short and haven’t won a game of football. We have to try and find a way out of it.

“The fans are justifiably disappointed. They are backing us and the majority understand the position we’re in. we’re missing a lot of players at the moment and that is making it difficult for us. Dominic Solanke picked up a knee injury in training yesterday and we don’t know the extent of it yet.”

Ange Postecoglou to Sky Sports: “It is a difficult result. We struggled to really get in the game in the first half and that gave Everton and momentum. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb but the players certainly tried to claw the game back but we just fell short.

“We couldn’t really take control of the game. We struggled to get any traction in terms of with and without the ball and that allowed to get in behind us. We had some chances where we probably should have capitalised early on, but in the end it wasn’t enough.

“We are pretty stretched. We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. We weren’t in total control of our organisation and Everton capitalised on that and we paid the price for it. Radu [Dragusin] had to come off because of the deep cut and restructure.

“Second half we had the fair share of the game. We started strongly and I thought Richarlison made a difference and a presence and Mikey Moore gave us something on the left.”

On the transfer market: “There will be urgency but it doesn’t need me to say it, everybody can see that. I have no issues with how the club are going about it, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help that is for sure and hopefully over the next 10 days or so we’ll find a solution. It is really tricky, we’re not the only ones in the market. The club are trying hard.”

Does your faith waiver? “No it doesn’t. If you look at the situation we’re in, it will eventually dissipate. I certainly hope and believe it will. We’ll give ourselves the opportunity to get consistency in performance and results. I certainly haven’t lost belief or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half that they haven’t either.”

Tottenham fans fume at Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou with Son in tears after Everton defeat

Here’s how fans reacted as Ange Postecoglou snaps at a BBC reporter’s two-word question after Tottenham’s defeat to Everton…

@hjsedits: if you don’t like being reminded of the fact that you constantly lose games maybe you should stop constantly losing games

@theavfcfaithful: He’s such a nasty piece of work. Was nothing wrong with the question

@RioMcFarlane: Would lose my mind if this bloke managed my club. So arrogant with nothing to back it up 😂

@AFCMet: I’m glad everyone is starting to see how much of a moody person he is. The mask has finally slipped

@PaddyArsenal: Big fan of him being an arsehole in every interview after the media love in last season. Nasty cunt.

@JoePavett00: Didn’t really mind him but the last few months he’s been an utter prick to everyone every time his team lose. Such a big baby

@LiamH98__: The arrogance of his man is beggars believe. 15th in the league, 18th in the form table, 1 point out of 18 so yes Ange. It’s a familiar story you arrogant prick.

@Pabsyyyyyy: 12 losses in 22 games what are you expecting? Does my tits in him like.

@MattCas04807118: He has a point, I’m no Spurs fan but a twattily put question.

@footballconfid1: I do think it’s a disrespectful way to start an interview also. It’s hard to articulate but essentially just casually reinforces an already biased media perception that Spurs exist only to be abused by the football community. Which is why Ange reacted in that way. How would you take it if an interviewer opened up with, “So as the song goes, Crystal Palace get battered everywhere they go… you must be getting sick of these losses?”

@connor_ctfc: Geezer is becoming unbearable, every single interview I see him in he seems to take issue with something.

@mcvillerton: Not to defend the fool, but the interviewer could skipped the “familiar story” bit. It’s bound to feel like a dig given their struggles. “What’s your assessment?” would have done fine, but Ange’s attitude always stinks, so he’ll get no sympathy from me.

@JimiVillan: Don’t think he’s in any position to comment on how people do their jobs. 🤣😭

@MezChadry: I think he’s getting a hard ride at the moment. He’s clearly an excellent l manager who plays some very exciting football. He has been hit with bad luck with his defensive problems. Spurs need to be patient and let him fix the issues. He will come good.

@greg_oram: Never even looks up in any interview. Looks beaten tbh. Are the Spurs players actually playing for him anymore? Doesn’t look like it.

@NUFCcook: Haha he’s such a dick but it’s not even in a funny or a likeable way, proper sour nobhead

@J_Westwood1877: You’ve lost 7 in the last 9 Ange, i’d say you losing is quite familiar yes
